Senator Ted Cruz faced down and won re-election in a heated campaign against not just a fake Hispanic pretty boy named Robert Francis O’Rourke, he defeated an intense propaganda offensive undertaken by Texas and national media. That propaganda was not enough to convince Texas voters to hand a majority to O’Rourke, the already-wealthy populist who married an heiress to an estimated half billion-dollar fortune. But the propaganda campaign did convince O’Rourke that he had sufficient political assets to mount a presidential campaign. Poor Bobby has now discovered that it was all just a matter of the media’s hatred for Cruz. (snip) Ted took a well-deserved dose of schadenfreude.

This is a sobering example of how the press can take an empty suit like O'Rourke and create a competitive candidate.

Cruz lost votes because of his snarky behavior at the 2016 republican convention. (I have since forgiven him.) As for the fake mexican o'rourke, he stands for everything, thus stands for nothing. I do hope he runs for the U.S. Senate next time, so that he can be totally humiliated by Texans.

I agree with #2 that this is "how the press can take an empty suit like O'Rourke and create a competitive candidate". But it also shows how the media has become helpless in the national government space and especially how they fail when going against Trump. I love to see how Cruz beat them in Texas. I love it even more when I see how frustrated and furious the media is when they are made into fools by Trump.

The media created Beto, and they have created the Squat Squad (they haven't done squat for their constituents) which will cause them grief, now that they have become an embarrassment. How will the media be able to defend these ultra-radical America haters? They can't, but they can't criticize them either, since they helped create them. They will just quietly stop writing about them, as they have done with Beto. Cruz is better than all of them put together!

As Rush Limbaugh is fond of saying, if the media creates you, they can destroy you. Beto was a one-hit wonder, getting up to #2 on the Texas Senate Election charts in Nov 2018.

Margaret Hoover is such a tool. Declaring PDT's comments as racist and trying to get Ted Cruz to agree. Then she talks about "our side" needed to police the president. To what side was she referring, because she's certainly not a conservative, though she passes as one on PBS. Ted Cruz is way too smart to fall into their little traps.

Remember that scraggly haired older woman who dogged George Bush, Jr., footsteps all over Texas? The media created her and they de-created her the moment she was no longer needed to heap fire on Bush's head. I don't care enough about it to look up her name. Perhaps Search Engine #1 has deleted all references to her. O'Rourke, take note. You were a tool (in more ways than one)/

Quick! Call the diversity police! For the fourth time in five years the US team placed first in the International Mathematical Olympiad, this year tying for first place with China. The six U.S. team members also won gold medals for their individual high scores on the Olympiad, known as the world championship mathematics competition for high school students. However, this very dominating winning team does not look like America -- all members are males, 5 Asians and one Caucasian, judging by appearances. Race, gender, ethnicity, family income, sexual orientation or other identifiers do not factor in to qualifying for the team to attend the Olympiad.

H.G. Wells's novel The Time Machine seems an apt analogy for the political storms of the day. Fresh from the messy House bid to condemn President Trump for his tweets, House Speaker has another embarrassment on her hands -- her inability to control Rep. Al Green, who launched his third impeachment bid against President Trump, failing spectacularly just like the past two times. His measure was squelched, 332-95, which President Trump tweeted gleefully. That act, from the House's most feeble-minded member, is going to undercut Pelosi own bid to set the stage for impeachment.

When we racist, sexist homophobes use the word "catfight," we are merely observing — as you are not allowed to observe — that women fight each other differently from how men fight. Once again, President Trump has flaunted his scorn for the media-defined norms of the American political conversation. Under those informal rules, Republicans can be labeled racists with impunity and America can be trashed as irredeemably racist, evil, and shameful. An interesting and much-missed aspect of the Jeffrey Epstein indictment is the way Democrats and Republicans view the matter. Republican politicians and pundits have tended to focus on the legalities of the arrest, Epstein’s guilty plea, and his brief imprisonment. For Democrats, as usual, it is all about politics and power. In not recognizing this, Republicans already have suffered embarrassment and may lose their own political opportunities. For a guy who is purportedly stupid and lacking in nuance, President Trump yesterday masterfully trolled Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party while superficially supporting her.
