As we settle into high summer and the period of maximum difficulty in finding anything to fill in hours of television news, especially 24/7 news television, two well-established political trends are emerging in this pre-electoral period: The president’s opponents continue to dig themselves into foxholes that they will not be able to escape, and the president’s tactical victories continue to be compromised by his verbal sloppiness. In completely nonpartisan terms, both phenomena are disappointing. The process of the president’s leaving verbal lapses for his enemies to exploit, and of the Democrats and national media doing so excessively, is more complicated than it seems. The initial shock at the success

Excuse me? Verbal sloppiness started with the anti-Trumpers and, whether it is the behavior of Democrats or elitist Republicans, Donald Trump has had the grace I could never have. This began with the start of his campaign. I suspect people are jealous. I stopped reading this article after the first paragraph.

I did not even start to read it. When I see the anti Trump snippet in the intro I just skip the article.

Conrad usually does a good job, and I used to cringe at some POTUS tweets, but not any more. This is what Republicans should have been doing for the last 30 years. Whether we like it or not, the Democrats are part of us and they are infected. It is not easy putting hydrogen peroxide on an infected wound, but that is what’s going on. Trump is doing the right thing, it’s just not pretty watching the fizzing while each wound is treated.

Verbal sloppiness? Naw. PDJT knows exactly what he’s doing. Look what he got the Dems to do on the House floor yesterday. These clowns on the left are fighting over who gets to wear the political suicide belt.

"The Democratic party has now pretty well locked itself into an inescapable confinement of commitments to ..."
But weren't the dems always into supporting these things when they could get away with it? The Left has been sly and sneaky, slouching to gomorrah (re: Bork). Trump confronts them in perfectly legal ways and draws them out into the light. What is seem is ugly, almost beyond belief, since so much care has gone into hiding what the Left truly is. When Trump tweets, pokes them, and the Left jumps ugly and set upon, WHAT is the mushy middle reacting to, Trump's "bumptious style" or the Left's hysteria. The middle doesn't like things stirred up. They don't like confrontation. They want the good results without having to fight for it. They think we are evolved past it.
News flash, we are NOT. If you want Conservative results and the preservation of America as envisioned at the founding you WILL have to fight and it WILL get nasty at times. Considering what Trump has and is facing he is AMAZINGLY happy and mild mannered. He is using free SPEECH to assault the Left. We know it is working because the Left now wants to limit speech that they don't like. Are we so wimpy that tough speech makes us uncomfortable? Apparently the timid middle is. Wake up!
We are facing a metaphorical D Day landing to unseat the entrenched Left and the mushy middle wants to serve them tea and talk it over. The dems have made it CLEAR they will take no prisoners. WIll you be a victim crushed under the tanks of the Left or a triumphant American?

I think Trump is sitting in his office with a big grin on his face. He threw out the Bomb and those Four Ditzes stepped right on it! They blew up their own Party. They demanded Air Time to show the world how dumb they really are and I'm sure many are asking how in the world they got themselves elected. That wasn't enough. Nancy Pelosi decided, instead of dragging them into her office and laying down the law, to support them. She then stepped on another Bomb by making such a big error that she was basically run out of the Chamber screaming that she was right while she was running. That caused the whole chamber to go nuts! What a Show!! All caused by the Fab Four! A Bartender, a Muslim who married her Brother, a Black woman who put down her own markers on what a real Black needs to do and a Palestinian from Detroit who doesn't have a clue why she is in Congress other than to spew four letter words at the President. The Democrats should be proud! Meanwhile, Trump sails along watching the wreckage in the Democrat Party and smiling all the way to his next Rally in NC tonight where he will speak to thousands and thousands of his supporters!! Trump! We love you!!

I, too, was shocked by "verbal sloppiness." After all, Conrad Black wrote the book on President Trump: "Donald J. Trump: A President Like No Other." That cheap shot, especially in the first paragraph, soured an otherwise mediocre article. I voted for Trump to do exactly what he's doing. It's worth repeating: President Trump is a genius at getting people to reveal themselves.
Build the wall and drain the swamp. And God bless President Trump!

I despise writers who make unnecessary snarky comments before they try and make a point.

Black was pardoned by President Trump because of Black's persecution by the the U.S. injustice system. He should be a little more appreciative.

It's called "baiting" Mr. Black. Trump is a Sun Tzu master and you can observe for yourself how the rabid animals that he targets take the bait and choke on it. To those who consider his tactics idle Tweeting, that's why he is the President and you are not. As Sun Tzu teaches, he is destroying the enemy without fighting.

Well worth the read, although Mr. Black still succumbs to the "Trump is coarse and crude" error too much.
Good commentary, and do not be put off by an occasional mild rebuke.

Sometimes, it is hard for the less wise man to understand the machinations of a wiser man. ''verbal sloppiness'' has been very effective in making the democrats show their true colors, and illustrate their true agenda for America. It also keeps them focused on their hatred of the President, to the point that they neglect the jobs they were elected to do.
With a very important election coming up, what accomplishments will the democrats be able to point to, to justify support? They already have the support of the radical, anti-American left. There will be no gains there. What about moderate democrats? They see their party subsumed by the work kind of radical actors, who want to destroy America. Will they suddenly become radical? What about the independents and Libertarians? Will they suddenly become radical democrats? Even the anti/never-Trumpers can't stand what the left is doing, so will they suddenly vote democrat? I think the answer to all those questions is: Not likely! Even if there were a few, so consumed by hatred for the President that they would trash America, they would be the equivalent of a ''poot in a whirlwind,'' as we used to say about the significance of something insignificant!

"not acoustically jangling, as many intelligent and gentlemanly people find this president. ". Gentlemanly? Like who Conrad? Name these people. They all swear and say horrible and utterly rude things about President Trump. Who are these people you speak of?

While President Trump’s political agenda is on target, sometimes it does initially appear that he might still need a competent “Twitter” editor who he can trust. But who knows, maybe Trump already has one who fits his idea of such an editor, who the Democrats and their media allies have not had the foresight to recognize, named Melania!
