“Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else,” Charles Dickens wondered. He feared that if he wasn’t the hero, then he would surely be the victim of his own life. Dickens, like most of us, would like to be the hero. That means that we have achieved our important goals and that we are, at least somewhat, in control of our own lives. A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage,

Democrats say they appeal to the victim, but in reality, they appeal only to themselves.

Victimhood is a powerful social badge of honor, heroic for confronting, if not overcoming, the vicissitudes faced by the public's sympathy, government's special programs and chemical intervention for whatever "syndrome" afflicts. Many "heroes", these days, are looking for a "Thank me for my service", essentially neglected "victims" of their military service and all the family hardships. First responders... teachers... students... minorities... women... single parents... illegal immigrants... Go down the list. Pick one... add one...

Three people had acid thrown on them in two separate incidents over just a few hours in London, including a market stall vendor targeted by people “wearing burqas”. Djamil Mogdad was preparing his clothes stall around at 6.40am on Friday morning at Walthamstow Market when he was “assaulted with a corrosive substance”, according to a Metropolitan Police spokesman. “Officers and the London Fire Brigade attended. The man was taken to an east London hospital for treatment; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” the spokesman added. “It is alleged that the victim had been approached by two suspects, both wearing burkhas,

It was the operation that reportedly cost former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen her job. She was reluctant to go through with it. So, Trump got rid of her, part of the massive overhaul at DHS that occurred in April. To put it simply, we’re going to have a large-scale raid on illegals by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It’s not cruel. It’s not immoral. It’s the right thing to do. It’s the law. You cannot come here illegally, no matter how sad your sob story is—we have a new sheriff in town. It’s time for these folks to go.

Hunter Biden’s got some explaining to do to his new bride. President wannabe Joe Biden’s son — who recently married a South African beauty just 10 days after they first met — has been hit with a paternity suit by a woman in Arkansas. Lunden Alexis Roberts, 28, filed a petition for child support against Hunter Biden, claiming that she gave birth to “Baby Doe” last August, according to court papers filed last month. The two-page suit was filed in Independence County, Ark., on May 28,

Last week, we reviewed the evidence of “innocence” of the “Central Park Five” presented in the court of Hollywood. This week, we’ll review the evidence of their guilt — presented in courts of law and ruled on by actual judges and juries. The five accused rapists — Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam and Kharey Wise — were duly convicted of the 1989 Central Park rape, as well as other assaults in the park that night; “exonerated” 13 years later; and, more than a decade after that, paid $40 million by the city of New York to settle a malicious prosecution case

The sorority, sometimes called “The Vow,” was created “to satisfy the defendant’s desire for sex, power and control,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Moira Penza said in closing arguments .

Congratulations are in order for the publisher of the New York Times, A.G. Sulzberger, who has finally landed an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal. He’s moving on up. And with an important piece about how irresponsible it is for President Trump to issue a tweet accusing the Times of committing, in the course of exposing our cyber attacks on Russia’s electrical grid, “virtual treason.” Our own view is that, given the temper of the times (and, for that matter, the Times), Mr. Sulzberger has missed part of the story. The President seems to have chosen his words carefully. When he tweets about “virtual treason,” he seems to be

The 448-page Mueller report has been public for two months, so it might seem strange that the Justice Department's original instructions to special counsel Robert Mueller, outlining what he was assigned to investigate, are still a secret. But they are. And now, it turns out those instructions were more extensive than previously known. Until now, it was widely understood that there had been two "scope memos" from the DOJ to Mueller. Now, it turns out there was a third, as well. When Mueller was first appointed, on May 17, 2017, the appointment document, signed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, authorized Mueller to investigate three areas: "i) any links and/or

Climate change is threatening ancient Greek monuments, among them the Acropolis, one of the most-visited archaeological sites in the world, scientists said. Air pollution and acid rain are eroding marbles, while extreme weather phenomena such as droughts or torrential rains have led ancient walls and temples to develop structural problems. Even though the Acropolis hill, where the Parthenon stands, is probably Greece's best preserved archaeological site, there are signs that climate change has been increasingly affecting the monuments that stand on the hill. "The walls of the (ancient) city have more erosion than in the past," Maria Vlazaki, General Secretary

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is on board with Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) proposal to erase all student loan debt, because she has not paid off her student loans either, she said Monday. She wants to make the bill a reality, in part, because she has outstanding student loans. “I will be completely honest. I will disclose my personal stake in this fight because I have student loans too,” she said Monday. “And I think it’s so funny. A year ago, I was waiting tables in a restaurant.”
