NBA commissioner Adam Silver told TMZ the league office is done using the word “owner” amid concerns whether the title is racially insensitive, adding they stopped using the term a few years ago. TMZ reported earlier this month that some NBA teams were debating whether to move away from the title, given some feel its racially insensitive in a league where the majority of players are African American. Warriors forward Draymond Green also raised the issue on LeBron James’ HBO Show “The Shop,” saying he took offense to the term.
Silver said he respects Green’s position. “I don’t want to overreact

Since they want to abolish the term 'Owner' why not abolish the term 'Payee' on their paychecks and let them play for the love of the game.

The players should “own” the teams, and the league operated as a socially just collective by a Central Committee, paying everyone the same salary. Let’s see how that works out.

Make it stop!!!!!
Governor doesnt work because a governor is elected or appointed.
I'll wager dimes to doughnuts, Black home owners are perfectly happy owning their homes, driving the cars that they own and sleeping in the master bedroom.

Maybe I read too many books set in Victorian England but when I hear the word 'governor' used for any other than an elected official I visualize a working class person being reminded of their second class status in the face of one of their so-called betters.

Truly, I don't think that I can continue reading the news, let alone listening to it. I might have to just wait for the emergency broadcast system to go off.

I can remember having watched John Havlicek, Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and many other white players excelling at basketball back in the day. There was a competitive league before it was overrun with thin-skinned social justice warriors. No one is indispensable.

Personally, I think the person who owns the team should be referred to as "Massa," and the players as "Boys." They only now take offense because the majority of the players are Black. What happened to racial diversity? It is enforced everywhere else, except in sports.

Is 'owner' going to be the next banned word because its racially insensitive? It gets rid of the concept of private property as well. That's a twofer for the commie left.

They've also stopped using the word "criminal" to describe their convicted felons.
From now on it will be "temporarily unavailable personnel."

Sillyness. The owner owns the corporation, the company, not the people who work for it. If they can't make that simple distinction, they've got big problems.

Last thing I remember about the NBA Chick Hearn was on the radio telling me about Jerry West on a dribble drive for a lay-up in Jack Kent Cooks Fabulous Forum. Things have such different meanings these days.

Interesting. Now I don't own my house or car. I am just the governor. In cars we have the driver and passenger side. Doesn't driver remind you of slave driver. So many problems.

Here’s an idea. Let’s call those NBA owners Masters and
the coaches, Overseers. It works especially good for the
Milwaukee Bucks.

Words mean nothing now. Governor is better than owner? Seriously? Politicians haven't done the term governor any favors. I'm offended by players, because most of them are bed hoppers and too forward with women. So much so that women have to be on their guard-oh, that's offensive too. And, what the heck about commissioner, Adam Silver? Is that offensive or what? LeBron has a show called "The Shop." As in slave shop. Yes way, that's offensive. Anyone a part of the NBA with a color for a name offends me. I like color. And, I could go own and own being stupid just like them. What a world?!

The play a sport invented by a white man, honed their skills at schools built by white men, in a league built by white men, in arenas funded and built by white men, wearing uniforms designed by white people, broadcast over satellites invented by white men, shown on televisions invented by white men. The aggrieved black players didn't even invent the laces on their shoes, yet the NBA brass is down and groveling. Why? NBA instead calls owners "governors," which to me is uncomfortably close to "overseers," summoning painful memories of the sting of the lash and the rattling of chains.
