Joe Manchin, the most moderate Democrat in the US Senate, may be plotting his exit strategy from Chuck Schumer's caucus. With his party drifting farther leftward by the day, and with gridlock gripping the legislative process, the West Virginian is said to be plotting his exit strategy from Congress' upper chamber. He is less than one year removed from pretty narrowly securing another six-year term in 2018, but Manchin is reportedly looking into moving back home and seeking to regain his former job of governor. If true, depending on the timing, that could be very welcome news to Sen. Mitch McConnell and the Senate GOP:

Schumer is watching Joe like a hawk. He is trying to talk him out of it. He knows Joe will be replaced by a Republican.

Can't blame him. He's one of us, despite the (D) after his name. Senate Dems are destroying themselves, Joe is fed up with it, he's well-liked by West Virginians, he's already got an excellent track record as governor, ... I could go on; but his bailing out of the Senate is a no-brainer.

Manchin is not a moderate. He is simply a glob of putty, just like Biden, who will do and say whatever Nancy and Chuck tell him to do and say in order to fool his constituents into continuing to vote for him. His record makes him appear to be moderate because they give him permission to vote against the Party (when it doesn't matter) in order to keep him in office.

I realize that Manchin is sort of admired by those on the right, but he is hardly a sterling character,
The governor appoints the president of West Virginia University. Manchin appointed a junior attorney from his office, with no academic experience.
Manchin's daughter, CEO of a generic drug company, signed up for an Executive MBA at WVU, and the president and his provost and business dean, conspired and awarded her essentially an unearned degree, created fake grades for her for courses not taken. (She bragged about it to her classmates.)
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette did an expose of the incident, and the president and provost were fired, the business dean lost his deanship and returned to his faculty position.
The daughter, I believe, was the one who lobbied through a law allowing schools to administer those injections for asthma attacks and bug bites where student was having an allergic reaction. (Prior to the change in the law, a school nurse could administer an injection which had been prescribed for a specific student.) The epinephrine in the injection costs a few dollars, but the injection pens were increased in price to several hundred dollars. And the pens have a shelf life, so they have to be thrown out and reordered regularly. Her drug company is the sole provider, I recall.
It was close to a scam that Nigerians might have pulled off.
The daughter kept her executive MBA diploma, by the way. And Daddy defended her.

If Manchin leaves the Senate, a Republican will take his place, and if “issues” like #4 mentions are too much for West Virginians to stomach, there’s even a remote possibility that he’ll be defeated for governor. Win/win/win!

Our do-nothing Congress is held in such low esteem, I'm not surprised. Manchin would be making a rational decision.

Occasionally Manchin talks a good game, but he almost always disappoints.

Manchin, like most beltway Democrats, talks a good game when visiting the rubes back home. But once they enter the DC beltway, they start taking orders from Nancy and Chuckie. He'd be better off switching to the GOP, but go ahead and quit one year into your latest 6 year term.

He should get a job outside government and stop living off taxpayers.
