If you live in Fontana, you wouldn’t be blamed if you felt a case of the jitters.A swarm of earthquakes has taken the dimensions of a marathon in the area of the Southern California city. Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson said the chance that the series of tremors will turn into a large and destructive quake isn’t particularly high.
But that doesn’t mean residents shouldn’t be on their toes. The likelihood of a larger seismic event, given so many quakes over such an extended period, is higher than normal, the scientist said. “People ought to be concerned,” said Hauksson. “This is probably the most prolific swarm in that area

Wouldn't many little quakes relieve the stress preventing one big one?

I don't know how I feel about California in general falling into the ocean, but Fontana, sure.

They pull this every few years. I wonder who has it on his/their tickler file? The series of small tremors is what CW tells us reduces the likelihood of a big one as it reduces stress.
And no, we don’t expect tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc., any time soon.
Rong-Gong, just bring us the #1 dinner with egg roll. That’s a good boy….

The Pacific plate is pushing under CA which is how the Rockies formed. Maybe everybody will be quashed into a stone mountain. People who love our Constitution and American should flee now so only the commies become one with stone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2ZXco32IRU The one-hit wonder group Shango said it best in 1969. And as far as I'm concerned, the idea of the homeless/tents/feces/needles of Skid Row in L.A. drifting out to sea makes me very happy.

God only gives so many warnings and if they are all ignored, well, good luck. They can all blame climate change as they float towards Hawaii.

#7 has it correct...ignore Him at your peril...I would suggest a reading of 'The Harbinger' for a good explanation...

Hubby was telling daughter and I last night that there is serious action at the Tar Pits in downtown LA. Natural gas is bubbling out from under the tar, and tar is being spattered into the streets. This is directly across the street from their big Museum. Something indeed is happening, and little quakes most likely indicate something bigger this way comes, to paraphrase a SciFi book title. This is like watching the ramp up to the big eruption in the movie Volcano, set in the downtown LA area.

About the LaBrea Tar Pits, they are oozing. They always ooze. There is natural gas. There is always gas. This one took over a corner and so is drawing more attention. But not much. Here is a brief article from the local ABC outlet:
The earth has been oozing tar and methane gas in the area since pre-historic times.
Passersby were fascinated by the black goo seeping out of the ground.
"We were talking today about, we have tar pits in L.A., and we were thinking, does anyone else in other cities have tar pits? And we thought, no I think we're pretty unique here," Patrick Meyer said. "But I didn't expect them to be this side of the street, I thought it was supposed to stay stuck on the other side.”
Right. Nature is supposed to stay put. Over there. Not over here.

Meanwhile the City is cleaning it up and waiting for the tar to do what it does: Harden and seal itself off.

PS. Reading on threads like this one I find myself wondering how I could bring myself to wish that something really, really bad would happen in Kansas, or Iowa, or Louisiana, or any other state in our great Union. Not very Christian, IMO. I couldn’t imagine doing it...

G-d is always in control. Unless the so-called experts tune their minds to His, they have absolutely no idea what He is doing nor what will happen.

Predicting earthquakes is about as accurate as a Fortune Teller's crystal ball - maybe less so. I don't believe the Northridge earthquake (1994) was on anyone's radar but should have been a wake-up call. A quake can strike at any time and there may be no warning at all.

As the experts say.
It's not a matter of if,but of when the Big One comes.
Plus they will blame it on Trump.

The Pacific Plate is not pushing into the North America Plate. It's a transform boundary which means they are slipping past each other horizontally. This is the famous San Andreas Fault. The formation of the Rockies is somewhat puzzling. Normally, an oceanic plate subducts under a continental plate at a convergent boundary since the oceanic plate is denser than a continental plate. However, the mountains formed by this process are no more than 400 miles from the coast and have volcanic activity - think the Cascades. The Rockies are much farther inland and not volcanic. Perhaps eons ago there was a convergence of plates, but this is not the case in CA.
