A growing number of Democratic presidential candidates in the 2020 election are calling for an end to a long-held standard for blood donations, which critics say enforces latent homophobia and leaves America’s blood supply vulnerable to unscientific limits.
That policy, which bans gay and bisexual men who have had sex with other men within the past year from donating blood, has been criticised as unnecessary in terms of modern scientific testing for blood-borne sexually transmitted diseases like HIV–modern tests can find the virus in the bloodstream within two weeks.
With LGBT+ Pride Month celebrations in full swing,

Not mentioned is the donation of blood by gay men as a source of support. They are paid for their blood.

I wholeheartedly support the idea that all Democrats should vigorously campaign on this winning issue in 2020.

I see nothing wrong in their donating blood. To other gays ONLY. That way they can get credit and a sammich from the donation center.

Great example of why I hope government-run healthcare does not pass -- decisions like this should be made for medical reasons, not for political reasons. When does the National Bend Over for Gay Politics Month end?

No way. These guys ruin their own health with their hideously unhealthy
life choices, I don't want them spreading their viruses and germs to
the normal people.

Would YOU take blood from a donor you knew was a gay man?

How long before someone catches aids from a blood transfusion? All in the name of political correctness.

Active gay men have an elevated risk for a variety of medical problems. HIV is just one of them. But the way things are going Alyssa Milano can probably convince Biden to Demand blood transfusions from all high risk groups - including Ebola victims.

What could possibly go wrong? Democrats are willing to risk death to fellow Americans on a huge scale. Like always, Democrats turn everything they touch into a disaster!!!! They always believe that they know what's best for everyone.

I'm a cancer survivor. I can only donate at a hospital. It is what it is.
Precautions need to be made to protect the receiver, not to protect the 'feelings' of the donor.

AIDS? What, me worry? A little case of AIDS is a small price to pay for the inestimably valuable right to endanger the health of those unfortunates in need of a blood transfusion.

Note how this ban on blood donations only went after "gay men" but not women or men who engage in similar types of sexual behavior albeit with the opposite sex. The inconsistency is glaring. I suspect it was a political move by the powers-that-be to make it look as if they were doing something about the purported HIV crisis without risking a significant drop in the number of donors.
If the powers-that-be had banned anybody who engages in that particular type of behavior, whether same- or opposite-sex, it would have meant a major threat to the donor numbers. I think that's the real reason for the inconsistency.

My God. The Party of Insanity! The Party of Death! People have to wake up. I have been screaming that for decades. Anyone who votes for a Democrat obviously has a death wish.

After I had my ears pierced several decades ago the blood bank would not take it because the piercing was considered a "surgery". The piercing was about four weeks prior.
I thought that was crazy!

I’ve been donating blood since 1977. It’s not just about gay men. The questions you must answer before donating each time include for men , “Have you had sex, even once, with another man?” And for women, “Have you had sex, even once, with a man who has had sex with another man?”. Not exact quotes, but close enough.
The best option, if you know that you will need surgery in the near future, is to give your own blood to be saved and supplied in the event that you need a transfusion during your surgery.

I used to donate blood, but some years ago the instituted a (at that time) new series of questions.
After I told them that I was married, they asked me how many people I had had sex with in the last few months, how many times I had had anal sex with another man in the last few months, etc.
I was insulted enough that I NEVER went back!
F'em!

Problem in my mind is some of these bugs take a very long time to appear. Sometimes years, and by then it is too late. Gays just need to deal with the fact that they are toxic thanks to their lifestyle, and we do not need anymore surprises.
What if the gay man has sex then goes out the next day or two and donates? That two weeks isn't going to do much good seems to me. And all the hemophiliacs and straights who got transfusions and died are not commenting. I believe the actor Paul Michael Glaser lost his first wife due to a transfusion she had to have during the very difficult birth of her baby.

The Death Party wants to impose death on people needing blood. How communist can you get? No thanks. I don't believe the public wants to get AIDS. The Death Party's platform is to get rid of citizens and usher in more illegals and jihadis.

Hey, just import it from China or Mexico. Who cares if it's tainted, or even real blood? Libs. God help us.
