President Trump planned to join other world leaders in Europe on Thursday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, a monumental event that was largely responsible for shaping the outcome of World War II.
The ceremony was to take place on the edge of Omaha Beach in Normandy where thousands of American and Allied soldiers lost their lives.
Trump, continuing the tradition of his predecessors, will stand alongside leaders from Britain, Canada, France, and even Germany to pay homage to the troops who stormed the fortified Normandy to help turn the tide of the war.

Survived Tet68 but have my doubts I'd have made it past D-Day. God Bless those who returned and may God Bless those heroes who didn't.

My dad did not participate in the D-Day invasion. He was in Company K of the 335th Infantry Division in Belgium. He had to settle for combat near the Battle of the Bulge. He somehow returned home. When we were kids, he only spoke of it once, thereafter, it was buried in his mind forever. #1, I thank you for your service.
May God bless our armed forces and the United States of America.

Daughter, husband and one-year-old Grandblessing visited Normandy two summers ago, and the most poignant picture was of her husband standing behind rows of white crosses, head bowed, cap in hand, and sandals off...
Hallowed ground, indeed.
Closer to home is America’s National D-Day Memorial, in tiny Bedford, VA. Bedford was the chosen location as they lost the most brave souls of any community in America—19.
I was honored to attend this inaugural dedication by President George W. Bush, that early morning, June 6, 2001, complete with Operation OVERLORD Arch, bullets in the water reinacted, and the USNA choir.
News reports say VP Pence will be in Roanoke VA today, but I’m guessing he will be here, which is nearby.
God bless him, our President and family and team, and may God continue to Bless America.

How beautiful it was to watch it “live,”. So touching.
My uncle Ray went in at Omaha Beach. He passed on several months ago, such a humble man, a real hero because he didn’t think he was. God bless our warriors, past and present!

Watching Trump this last week has been fascinating. Among other things
he said, “I don’t want to see Iran fail, I just don’t want them to have nuclear
weapons.” In other words, he is expressing compassIon for the people of
Iran but is focused on the rulers’ intentions. Trump has also been effective this week as a history teacher. His speeches have covered the
D-Day invasion and the partnership between England and the US in the
effort. His description of the waves of assaults by the Allied soldiers has been instructive and reverent.

I hear ya, #2. My late husband served in the Battle of the Bulge, but he called it the Ruhr Valley campaign. Drove a half-track quite a few miles over Germany . When younger soldiers asked what a half track was, he was surprised the Army had quit using them. There are several on display in the wonderful WWII Museum in New Orleans. I could spend a week in the place!

Ditto #5. We were all tuned to the task at hand. I've wondered the different worlds of having an enemy front as was pretty much in WWII and constantly having charley all around your AO. The glaring similarity remains, it was all bloody hell. The demons of any war come permanently calling in the night.
Copy as well, God bless our fathers who stood in the door and did their duty magnificently.

Glad to see that some still made. All our family's WW2 veterans are no gone.
Only the memories, photos and their stories survive, and will be told as long as
my generation are alive.
