I am so old, I actually remember when Chappaquiddick happened. Some years later, I looked into the facts and found that they are quite clear: Senator Ted Kennedy, then 37 years old, drove his car off a bridge and saved himself, leaving a young woman to die, when she could have been rescued if he had simply called for help like a normal human being. Instead, he tried to convince his cousin to take the fall and, failing that, lawyered up. Ted Kennedy is not history’s most contemptible man, but he is easily in the bottom one percent.

Unfortunately for MaryJo, the real story of what happened to her is right with Obama´s past records and Clinton´s bimbo payoffs. In other words, when it comes to powerful donkeys, anything shady or questionable falls into the media black hole never to see the light of day again. We´re never going to know the true story of what happened to her, anymore than we´ll see Obama´s school records. Some things are just not discussed and this is one of them.

Though her sacrifice was not intentional, we still owe her a massive debt of gratitude. By dying she kept that contemptible rogue out of the White House.
Now if only the voters of Massachusetts had ousted the scoundrel.

The only fact I didn´t know was that Fat Teddy begged his cousin to take the rap for him. That makes him one notch lower on the scale of slime.

I was a kid when it happened, #3, but I remember him in that stupid neck brace, and all I could think when I saw it was: "Phony!"

If Splash had been anyone else but a Kennedy, he would have spent several decades in prison. I’d love to know what threats and how much cash was used to keep the Kopechnes quiet.

Actually, I knew this story and I think anyone who was interested could have found it. I knew the media lied in covering up for Kennedy. His cousin wrote a book about what happened that night.

#6, at the time, I read the Kopechnes were given $80,000 by Kennedy´s lawyers. Even back then, that wasn´t a lot of money, but I think they were not well-to-do. Certainly they remained silent the rest of their lives. She was their only child.

Back in the 1970’s, I read a book “Teddy Bare”. It was the story of Chappaquiddick. What trash this man was. Amoral, lacking in ethics, and incapable of taking responsibility for his actions. What bothers me the most is Mary Jo’s last hours, yes, hours, that she lived in the air pocket in that car. The man was pure excrement.

Obviously enough time has passed so this fairy tale will become the official version of events.
Everytime the Dems scream "Coverup". I think of this poor girl.

Point being Old Media bastids have been front line protectors of the left for a very long time. Covering the rear is the army of leftist history academia, hiding bodies.

I wonder if Eddie wore that neck brace when he appeared before God?
I don´t think daddy´s fixers will be any help to Eddie - - as he burns forever in Hell.

I have never forgotten Mary Jo Kopechne.
Nor did I ever forget that her slow, awful death was caused by Teddy Kennedy.
I loathe the Kennedys. All of them, including pious Rose, who lived the luxurious life, enjoyed the money, and averted her eyes. A mother is supposed to provide the moral compass for her children. She was MIA. She failed.
John Hinderaker is one of the best journalists out there. Certainly the best at PowerLine. This is another excellent piece. Hinderaker, like many of us, is a truth seeker.

Remember Teddy sitting in judgement of Judges Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. And help creating our illegal immigration crisis. But the runt of the Kennedy litter had his admirers. Actress Lauren Bacall said she "loved that man." I didn´t.

I was in collage at the time, visiting my parents, when Ted came on to explain what happened. My Mom, a life long Democrat, and I, looked at each other and said, "he´s lying".
With just the little facts we had then, we knew he had left her to die. Whatever one may think of his brothers, they would have gone back to save her, and come up with a lie later on how it happened. But they would not have let her die.
The people who defended him, even when they knew the facts, are the great mystery, but the good news is that the great majority of people know what he did and no, he will not be remembered as the "Lion of Congress". His life is defined by one cowardly, self centered act.

Kennedy raped Mary Jo and should have served a long prison term for murdering her afterwards. But the Chap police gave him a pass. The life of privilege.

From the picture I remember, the car was actually not that deeply sunk at all. She was just trapped in the vehicle because she couldn´t get a door or window down. She might have had an injury that prevented her from getting out as well.
The back end was apparently sticking out of the water, but the air didn´t last long enough for her rescue. Kennedy was a vulgarian, and a rotten human being. His own father only saved him from his various scandals simply to protect the rest of the family. As to the money, they didn´t pay much at all, just a couple hundred thousand as I recall.
They threatened to drag her through the mud of public scandal is how they kept the family quiet. I suspect she was a starstruck young woman who was thrilled to be in the same universe as a Kennedy. The Kennedy´s would have turned that into being a trollop of the highest level I suspect.
After Kennedy tried to declare for president, Carter dropped a sly little reference to this scandal, and less than three days later Kennedy dropped out.

As I recall, the media did a fairly decent job of covering it at the time. The basic outline of the story, even as retold here by Hinderaker, made it into the papers. Maybe the outrage was dampened a bit, compared to if, say, if was Nixon.
As the story is retold, I´m surprised that Kopechne was almost 29 years old. Somehow I had the impression that she was much younger.

The conniving, spinning and near total dishonesty of the Kennedys and their adoring, scripted media is evident in its fabricated coverage of this senseless tragedy caused by Teddy. The press continues to shield dem pols to this day, as is particularly in evidence by their theatrical storyline about Teddy Kennedy´s entire life. ...This alone is proof of media deceit.

Teddy Kennedy reminds me of muslim, commie Obozo.
Teddy drove poor Mary Jo off the bridge. and left her there to to suffocate. He did nothing to save her.
OBOZO drove America off the bridge, and he never even apologized.
Barry was born in Kenya.
His Mombasa Hospital Birth Certificate was signed by two African Doctors and it looks authentic.
Barry´s Hawaiian Birth Certificates are both fakes.

Richard Nixon was a decent piano player. a poker ace, a bible scholar. a patriot and a GENTLEMAN.
Teddy Kennedy was a bum.
He left poor Mary Jo to suffocate in that big Oldsmobile.
Later at her funeral, Teddy wore a fake, white neck brace.
He should have been investigated like OBOZO, who was born in Kenya and layer was our first muslim, commie, pervert President.

Not mentioned here but reliably reported elsewhere: Ms. Kopechne was pregnant. This goes to motive, and raises the charge to deliberate double murder.

It all came out at the time. Ted and his bros were at a party. He was married at the time and he left with Mary Jo. He drove off a bridge into a shallow creek. The car landed on its roof. He got out and left her behind to fend for herself. She didn´t fare well. Didn´t drown. Ran out of air. Still the IDIOTS in Massachusetts reelected him many many times. Kinda like NJ. We got Menendez the underage girl predator. None of this matters to the DIMS.
