Which class of full-time, year-round American workers has the highest median earnings? Is it the class that works for private-sector employers? Is it the class that works for the government? Or is it the entrepreneurial class, who are self-employed?According to the Census Bureau´s Personal Income Table 07 (PINC-07), the competition isn´t close. When it comes to making money in the modern United States of America, government workers win. Among Americans who actually earn income by working, they are the upper class. In 2017, according to PINC-07, there were 115,704,000 Americans who worked full-time (at least 35 hours per week) and

I could have told them this. Anyone who rides around the 495 beltway or comes north or south on I-95 knows this. The suburbs of D.C. are annually ranked as some of the wealthiest locations in the country.

17,617,000 work for government, divide that by 115,704.000 full-time workers, or 15.22% of the work force.
Another way to view, 115,704,000 - 17,617,000 = 98,087,000 taxpayers paying for their government.

This doesn´t seem to count benefits, which normally includes a generous health care program and early retirement for gov workers. So . . . the discrepancy is even more pronounced.

In addition to #4´s insight, there is NO provision for the incredible kiss of absolute security. Remember, after grifter Obama sold the "stimulus package" of nearly a trillion dollars on the basis of "shovel-ready infrastructure projects" he used the money to immunize Democrat state employees from the effects of the recession. No lining up for unemployment checks for these birds. They growsed about their raises not being big enough--while smelly Walmart people sucked up 30% income cuts.

Sounds like a reason to remove their ´tenure´ and make them much easier to can. If they want job security they need to work for themselves. Oh, wait...most of the leftards do work for themselves ´resisting´ instead of for the taxpayers who are paying them.

In Canada one has to be bilingual to secure a government job. Take note cousins to the south. I think it was bilingual maybe it was bipedal.

When I graduated from college, all of my fellow accounting students opted to go work for either a major CPA firm or a large corporation. I was the only one who chose to go the Civil Service route. As I never kept in touch with any of my classmates, I´ve no idea how they all made out. But as for me, my choice of career path was one of, if not the, smartest decisions I´ve ever made in my life.

I worked in the (semi) private industry (military aircraft designer and supplier to the government) for a few years before quitting and going to grad school. The WORST and most incapable engineer in the department spent most of his time trying to find out how much all the other engineers made and applying for government jobs. He finally got one and quit and both he and we were overjoyed to see him go. The US government is the repository for highly paid and minimally competent individuals.

I worked for state and local governments for 20 years. The money sucked but I earned so much leave time that when I quit, I had over 300 hours they had to pay me for. I was earning time at 1 1/2 days of both sick and annual every month. I lost a few days of sick, I just never took all of it. I did have job protection after 6 months, which I did not have when I worked for a big hospital in Gainesville, FL. That job ended very badly but fortunately, yes fortunately, I had a bad fall and was not released to return to work and after 6 months I was ´let go.´ Best thing they ever did for me.

You should see how government workers overseas live. I say it all the time, but Americans would be outraged if they knew how well the agency employees in foreign countries live c/o taxpayers. Especially diplomats. My family did a State Department tour in the early 90s, and we lived quite well as a USMC family. Our agency brothers and sisters lived much, much better. Thirty days leave AND R&R!! mini-mansions, slaves...domestics, drivers, private schools, private clubs, great pay and bonuses. Some who were posted in third world countries got to send their children to boarding schools in Europe. I could go own and own.

The idea back in the early eighties was to pay government employees very well so only the best people would work for the government. As you can see they are now the most highly paid and still the worst workers in the country.
