Denver—Voters in Denver appear to have overwhelmingly rejected a measure that would have overturned the city’s ban on camping in public places. As of preliminary results released at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Initiative 300 was headed for defeat with 83 percent of voters saying “no” and 17 percent saying “yes.” Results won’t be certified until later this month. Denver’s current urban camping ordinance bans tarps, sleeping bags and tents in public. That ban was put in place in 2012. Proponents of Initiative 300 said the ban is cruel and unusual and their measure is necessary to protect human rights.

The law may be on the books, but it isn´t enforced much. Every time I go into Denver, I see homeless camped out in parks with all their junk.

How dare these people reject what these other people have to offer.

This dim sign of intelligence on the part of the voters will surely be overturned on appeal.

May not be enforced much but it can at least be used to clean out the problem makers.

Wonder if the backers of this proposal will just offer use of their couches, backyards, and garages for the homeless...No? Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Average cost of apartment in Denver is over $1500.00 per month. Liberal cities tend to have policies that lead to shortages of affordable rental units. Examples: LA, San Francisco, DC to name a few. Then the ranks of the homeless swell. Homeless shelters are a racket and cannot serve all the homeless. If you don´t like people camping, a law isn´t going to cure it. Let developers build cheap housing.

Last time I was in Colorado there was an overwhelming amount of camping space outside the city limits. And no evil cops to roust you and give you a bunch of grief. Just a few bears.

When the dems want something ridiculous, over the top, too expensive, harmful to America, anti-Christian, and anti-Business, then all of a sudden it becomes a "human right." I loathe dems more each day.

Parks, a place of natural refuge in the hustle-bustle of the city. Not a homeless shelter.

Thanks to the crackpot proponents of this initiative for wasting our time, energy, and tax money on this utopian silliness.

A judge will likely overrule this. Can´t enforce this in loony California and the 9th circuit.

Good for the voters of Denver!
We don´t need any more San Franciscos. I never figured I´d be using the words "p00p" and "needles" in the same sentence, but San Francisco showed us all how.

Sanity prevails, at least a bit. I wonder if the cops will actually enforce the laws, or just ignore these bums?

Racists voters. How dare they deny the right of people to live where they want. Even if those people don´t have houses, cars, jobs, and any other civilized requirement needed to in a civilized society. I guess the Denver voters have seen LA and San Fran. and decided not in my town.

If they were simply camping it´s one thing but they cause crime, disease, harass people for money and encourage outsiders to avoid the city like it was some kind of dump/sewer combination. Just like Seattle and San Francisco and Los Angeles, I will never see Denver again.
I wonder how much the homeless multiplied in Denver when pot became the drug du jour?

Colordao is going the way of Kalifornica.
Thanks to the previous governor, John Chickenpooper, our new left-leaning, libnut, married-homo gov, Jared Polis, and demnut Denver mayor, Michael Hancock, they´re trying to turn Colorado into another Kalfiornica and Denver into another San Fransicko.
Hoping we can recall gov homo in July.

If you people want to understand Colorado, watch some episodes of South Park. And use closed captioning, because the voices are tough to understand.
One of my favorite episodes was where South Park banned Kentucky Fried Chicken as unhealthy.
And in the same location, they opened a marijuana store.
And Cartman, the bad kid, began smuggling KFC from another state, making a healthy profit on it.

To the 17% of Denver Morons...check out Seattle...a once nice city in the trash ... why? Because of street people living, crapping, urinating and basically being a pile of human trash...
I have a question, if the 17% think this is such a good idea WHY DON´T they invite the homeless to live with them?...I´ll tell you why, they are all HYPOCRITES!

Even the radical leftists are weary of crazy people living on the sidewalks. Put up a ballot initiative to exile the lot of them to a supervised, enclosed, remote facility where they can booze themselves as they please and watch it pass in a landslide.
