True story: My wife and I both are former residents of New York City, and on a recent business trip there she was taking a nostalgic walk through the Upper West Side on a lovely fall day, talking to me on the phone about the possibility of moving back there. And then the crusty guy walking in front of her on the sidewalk stopped, dropped trou and took a dump right there on the sidewalk on Central Park West. “Never mind,” she said. We live in Texas, where we don’t have any state or local income tax or languish

Oh yay. Noo Yawkaz are moving to South Carolina by the thousands. No wonder real estate is being snapped up in days. Of course they’ll vote fuh da exact same sort of pandering POS as they did back in Sh** City.
Phoenix, AZ now has a chain of restaurants called, Native New Yorker. Woo hoo.

No doubt they took their snooty, liberal upper West Side politics with them.

The. Problem with these fleeing people from the North East is they vote in the same politicians with ideals that destroyed the place they came from. Now Texas and NC are turning blue. God help us all.

If you do the numbers the percentage of people leaving NYC is .004%. An insignificant number. The article does one good thing in that it points out the disgusting conditions that exist in this cesspool.

"a banking big in Charleston, SC."
Ugh, poster #1 is right. I had a former New Yorker pressure wash my house. He moved here about three months ago from NC. I asked him why so many Yankees were moving down south, and he said it seems like everything good is flowing south. He talked about the competition for work and how expensive it is to live in NY. I told him we don´t mind them moving here, "but don´t bring your politics and voting habits with you." The South is the way it is because of how we live and vote, just as it is with the North. He also said everybody in the South owns guns. I said, "Yep, that´s the way it is." He said we don´t fight, we just shoot each other. I told him that southerners are responsible gun owners and we don´t have killing fields like they do in NY and Chicago. As we talked, he revealed that he was anti-union and anti-government. I was pleasantly surprised, but he had a lot of conspiracy theories about government (some may be true). He was a very nice man, without the "ugly" New Yorker edge, but I just need him to not vote.

And how many will continue to vote for the same folks that destroyed NYC, and the same policies? My bet is 90%.
The cancer metastasizes.

I´ve been to NYC a few times on business. As a visitor, I liked NYC´s entertainment industry - Broadway. It was cool. But, just darn glad I don´t live there among the transients, the crime, and the filth.

Part of the reason I left NM was because of all the Kalifornians moving in and voting for communists, raising property prices out of reach of locals, raising taxes out of sight, increasing local laws and regulations, and just making life miserable.
So I moved to back woods Appalachia. The first two or three years I lived here I never saw a cop or any city or county employee. I burn my trash, ride my unlicensed 4 wheeler on the road and carry whatever gun I feel like. The neighbors do the same. It is nearly paradise.
But lately I have been seeing a lot of NY license plates. Yes, I´m worried. They are cut from the same totalitarian cloth as Kalifornians.

New York is like a big zoo - interesting place to visit, but I sure wouldn´t want to live there.

I see more and more California license plates in my sleepy, slow moving town in New Mexico and I don´t like it. This state is already totally dark blue so there´s not much they can change here except higher taxes and gun control. They do bring their politics and when you start making maps of the city where ´poop areas´ are bad you know you have arrived.

Yeah- Here in Nevada, we are now receiving the Kaleefourneeyah refugees in their thousands. I imagine the "de Blasio of the West", Gaven Newsome is going to finish the job of destruction Gov. Moonbeam started. If we time it right, we can make a killing on this house, because the housing costs here are skyrocketing, starts are off the charts with new subdivisions being approved almost weekly. Leftists, however, have not let their habit of destroying everything they touch slacken. This last election, the entire government of Nevada finally went total Democratic Party and boy are they slashing and burning. I imagine soon, we will have to depart this once lovely place in the desert. Sooner or later, these people will begin thinking they can build their socialist Utopia better here than their failure in Cali. Oh, well, stupid is as stupid does. Hold onto to Texas- it will be precious as the last bastion of sanity.

To the posters who ruined my day by bringing California into this discussion about NEW DAMMIT YORK, a pox on all of you. For once give California a break. Keep this about New York and not California. Just once.

Oregon has been experiencing the same issues with the transplants that the other states have been for a very long time. Cali residents have pretty much overbuilt on every scrap of land on our Coast and turned it into a Cali North. Ugly ugly ugly, and not just the scenery. They bring all their leftist idiocy along with them. Believe me, I can relate to AZ, SC, Georgia and all the other states and cities which are being flooded with Yankees. The fleeing Leftists define Yankee in my book.

I had a project in Manhattan over twenty five years ago and the crime, filth and inconvenience of moving around were intolerable to this country boy even then. I can´t imagine how much worse it is today.
The city won´t feel the pain of people leaving until tax revenues drop significantly and the overpriced apartment space begins to show vacancies. That´s when the real screaming will begin.
I was walking to the bus station one evening and a couple of black teens walking behind me were discussing how they would like to steal my T-Shirt. I was contemplating how much I would have liked to practice my martial arts training on them. Today they would just shoot me for it.

There are morons everywhere. I grew up in coal and steel country as a farm boy. Lots to love about all of that, but there were more than a few nut jobs, hard cases and miserable people sprinkled thru that part of my life and that part of the country. Today a lot of drugs and more losers than ever.
Is it better than a place like NYC? I would say yes, but for reasons not always connected to people. When you get 12 million packed together the percentage of really awful people per block goes way up.
As in most things the issues freedom loving Americans care about come down to the ´lawmakers´ much more than locations. Don´t ever vote for a rat in any capacity and life will be better no matter where you are.
