Booker announces legislation to pave path for slavery reparations

Sen. Cory Booker announced a bill Monday to form a commission to recommend reparations for slavery, taking the reins of one of the most intriguing and controversial agenda items from the 2020 campaign. Mr. Booker becomes the highest-profile lawmaker to sign onto reparations legislation. He said it could solve persistent racism and discrimination that have been built into the system for decades, leading to disparate outcomes for all black Americans. “This bill is a way of addressing head-on the persistence of racism, white supremacy, and implicit racial bias in our country,” he said. “It will bring together the best

Comments:

I thought welfare, affirmative action, and tearing down all Confederate monuments was supposed to achieve this aim. Next will be the problem that white people live in nicer neighborhoods, have better jobs, etc.

So Booker believes that this will solve the persistent racism that blacks hold toward whites? (S/O) We have many, many black politicians, most entertainment media and sports venues are predominantly black and we just rid ourselves of a black president and his angry wife and yet this country discriminates. It seems to discriminate against white men.

Two dozen major cities are no-go war zones. Retail spaces, offices/skyscrapers, historical sites, theaters, museums, etc. stand empty or in ruins thanks to the armies of ´victims´ living in the immediate area.

Where are the reparations for that?

Another bribe, as if LBJ´s Great Society were not bribe enough, to a small segment of the Black population which chooses not to fend for itself, is only going to require another bribe down the road, and another, and another.

Not one Black person in the USA today was ever a slave. Not one.

That there are many more Black people today who are not self-sufficient than there were back in 1960 testifies that giving money to people does not help them.

The #walkaway movement must have the left really scared. They´re resorting to outright bribery of their once reliable base ethnic group to keep from losing them.

In the process, they will no doubt alienate even more whites, which they see as no problem since whites have never done anything that wasn´t evil to begin with.

I don´t see how taking money from one group -- by force essentially -- and giving it to another group will improve race relations.

So . . . let´s say the Feds do slavery reparations. Some of my money (in the form of taxes cuz I´m a white guy) gets taken away to give to African-Americans. Which African-Americans get the money? What about mixed-race African-Americans? Do they get only part of what non-mixed-race African-Americans get? What about black folks who came to the the United States AFTER the Civil War?

Let´s say I have relatives who fought on the side of the Union (which I do). Do I get a discount on my taxes because my ancestors fought to stop slavery?

What I have be on guard against so often is resentment. I see a lot of freebies handed out to minorities. White guys take an awful lot of guff. How do slavery reparations make me want to be better about race relations in America? Will they help African-Americans treat white folk better?

Race baiting is SO unattractive and SO useless if you are trying to improve things. It´s all about power, NOT equality.

The Dimokkkraps started the Civil War in order to perpetuate slavery, 80% of northern dimokkkraps voted against abolishing slavery (the southern dimokkkraps had formed the confederacy by the time that vote took place), they formed the KKK to terrorize black people, and they passed laws and conducted themselves in such manner as to create what is known as “southern racism” in order to maintain poltical power.

What is spurtacus doing being associated with this organization?

The Dimokkkraps should have all their assets applied towards reparations.

Desperate to keep blacks "on the plantation", in thrall to Dems for at least one more election cycle. This Bull Manure cynical reparations scam is just the latest attempt to literally BUY their votes, with taxpayer money.

Too many black citizens are seeing that not only have Dems not helped them for decades, including our previous half-black President, but that Trump HAS greatly helped them via a huge improvement in the economy, and trying to keep illegals from stealing their jobs.

The Dems are frightened, grasping at any racist straws, doubling down on their cynical deception, trying to buy votes.

If blacks want more money than welfare, free housing, food stamps, etc., then they need to get off their backsides and get a job. It will guarantee an earned income, a few benefits and some pride. If it works for the white folks it can work for them. See, that´s equality. And they can give up their Obama phones and get on a plan of their choosing....more equality.

Seriously, what do they think the trillions spent on welfare, affirmative action, etc. over the last 60 years have been if not a "reparations" program? Too bad they have been such a failure. It´s time to end all such programs and simply treat all our citizens equally.

Our black community may want to ask their Democrat plantation owners why they instead want to force THEM to pay for all the free services for Mexican and Central American illegal immigrants.

So, tell us how it will be administered.

e.g. Obama was half black, but his ancestors never experienced US Slavery – he gets nothing.
His wife can probably trace her self back to owners. She gets a share.
His daughters get a half share.
Now if you are to get reparations you have to prove that you are:
1.) All black, traceable to slaves, with no white blood. (You are looking kinda light skinned Corey)
2.) No Native American – First Nation blood.
3.) No later entry after 1865 black from Africa, Brazil, or any of the islands.
4.) Can you prove your lineage? Can’t tell who your father is/was ? Thanks for playing, but no.
5.) Will the terms Mulatto, Octaroon, and Quadroon come back into fashion?
6.) Who gets to decide? And is this a one off, never to be mentioned again deal?

I know my post is late in coming but you should look deeper at this. If we give them some money they will no longer have any reason to think we owe them something.
After reparations we can call and treat them as they really are. They will no longer have an excuse why they can´t get a job, need to collect welfare or get ahead solely by affirmative action.
I´d pay big money to take all of their lame excuses away from them. Reparations will do the trick. Take away their excuses.
Law of unintended circumstances couldn´t be sweeter.

Ok, reparations. I think we should tell the African American Citizens, that if they are unhappy with the results of their ancestors being slaves, i.e. their standard of living, we will do one of the following, (1) We will give them and their family a ticket to Africa, all expenses paid. (2) we won´t demand repayment of their education, their welfare, their subsidized housing (3) We will demand that they pay the families of the Union Soldiers killed freeing their ancestors, and the federal government for the cost of the war to free them.

Unlike the Union argument, my g-grandfather, a Cherokee escapee from the Trail of Tears was living in Rapides Parish, in the no-mans-land along the Texas-Louisiana border when the war broke out. He and his brothers enlisted in the 18th Louisiana Infantry, not to protect slavery but because that was the first time a white man (a recruiter who came calling on the farm in 1861) had actually asked him kindly to do anything and he felt like he had to oblige that kindness. So because my ancestors fought for their home state, does that mean I am morally or duty bound to pay reparations? I think not but I´m willing to make a deal: Booker can apply my share of the reparations money for the Trail of Tears to descendants of slaves.

Oh Cory, here is your ´reparations´ for the first time in 50 years a non uniparty President has created an economy with more jobs than workers. The point of this country is the OPPORTUNITY for personal improvement. Not the guarantee of it.

For some reason you choose to belong to the political party that not only fought a Civil War to preserve slavery, but for many decades after they did everything they could to keep former slaves from improving their lives. NO American today has to suffer under the rat party´s Jim Crow laws. If you or your party had an intelligence, honesty or manners, you would say, ´on second thought, I want to thank the Republican Party of Lincoln for ending slavery at a cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. I also want to thank this Republican President for providing the most opportunity in years for anyone who wants to work to improve their lives.´ But being a pandering, race hustler who utterly failed to improve anything in Newark, you won´t.

I keep calling him general, but my, my—the guy who runs that outfit over there,” Biden said.(Snip) Earlier at the event, Biden mentioned the Defense Department leader by his name, “Secretary Austin,” while appearing to read from a teleprompter.

Thousands of illegal immigrants are being set free across the country as the crisis on the southern border escalates—and the White House admitted Monday it isn’t doing enough to discourage people from seeking unlawful entry to the United States. Speaking to reporters during a press briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged the failures after being pressed about the administration’s handling of the situation. “I would say it’s clear we need to work more on getting the message out and being very clear, now is not the time to come,” said Psaki, before reiterating the Biden administration’s claim that “the majority

All Long Island Rail Road’s branches will be running weekdays on “enhanced” weekend schedules, with waits between trains increasing by more than 30 minutes during some parts of the day.(Snip) MTA officials in November threatened draconian cuts to all of New York’s mass transit systems if Congress didn’t provide more federal aid; it did in December—to the tune of $4 billion. New York—Fully vaccinated Americans can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or social distancing, according to long-awaited guidance from federal health officials. The recommendations also say that vaccinated people can come together in the same way with people considered at low-risk for severe disease, such as in the case of vaccinated grandparents visiting healthy children and grandchildren.(Snip) "We know that people want to get vaccinated so they can get back to doing the things they enjoy with the people they love," said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, in a statement. Meghan Markle did not secretly marry Prince Harry three days before their spectacular Windsor wedding, despite claims in their bombshell Oprah interview. But a marriage has to have two witnesses and be solemnised by a member of the clergy in a church or licenced place.(Snip) But Reverend David Green, Vicar of St Mary’s, West Malling and the Rector of St Michael’s, Offham, said it was impossible to have had two weddings, adding: ‘I think the Archbishop needs to clarify

Bill Reagan, director of Loaves and Fishes, the food bank and shelter in Harlingen, Texas, said more cases are likely but are not being detecting because, given the conditions, testing is “almost useless.” (Snip) “We can’t quarantine them,” he told commissioners. “Even though they test positive, they’re going to leave the next day. As we reported two days ago, Joe Biden completely made no sense when he was trying to explain the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill. It was really bad and it explains why they’re afraid to have him deliver an address to Congress or do any kind of a real solo press conference, because at this point they have to be afraid this is all going to fall apart if he does anything live and this all becomes too obvious to the American people. But there’s only so long that they can hold this off. And it’s getting worse, as video today revealed. Biden was holding an event to announce the nomination

Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab. The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote. I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
