The commandant of the Marines has warned the Pentagon that deployments to the southwest border and funding transfers under the president’s emergency declaration, among other unexpected demands, have posed “unacceptable risk to Marine Corps combat readiness and solvency.” In two internal memos, Marine Corps Gen. Robert Neller said the “unplanned/unbudgeted” deployment along the border that President Trump ordered last fall, and shifts of other funds to support border security, had forced him to cancel or reduce planned military training in at least five countries, and delay urgent repairs at bases.(Snip) Neller, a four-star general, said because of the

That´s pretty darn pathetic from the Marine Corp commandant. I think the Marines deserve a better commandant.

Whoever is releasing "internal memos" needs to be tried for treason, and shot or hanged -- I´m OK with either option!!!!!!
This piece of "journalism" only serves one purpose -- to embarrass the president!!!!!
Fortunately, our president doesn´t tend to give a damn and doesn´t get embarrassed!!! He just continues to do what is right for this nation, and that includes doing whatever is needed to secure and protect our southern border from the current invasion by illegal aliens!!!!!!!!!!

His commander is the President of the United States. He may be disappointed, but the border is far more important right now than anything else he named.
I agree with #8. This “leak” was intended to embarrass the President. He will survive but will understandably be taking a long hard look at whoever might have leaked it.
His general needs to toughen up, suck it up, and be a real Marine.

What would this Marine Corps commandant say if an "unplanned/unbudgeted" war broke out tomorrow? Would the Marines be unavailable? Who knew that "training exercises" overseas was necessary to make the Marines combat ready? How did we ever secure victory in the Pacific in WWII without such training exercises? Get a new commandant that´s not a whiner President Trump!

Why does the general think the invasion of the southern border falls outside Marine Corps business?

So if our trained Marine Corps might be exposed to an "unacceptable risk" if they are deployed to the border why isn´t the rest of the country at risk? It appears this commandant has just made Trump´s case for a wall.

I think it´s the function of our armed forces to defend our borders from invasion. The Commandant needs to be fired if he doesn´t understand that.

Issue the order cancelling all activities by this B**** general (no cap) except those deemed appropriate by the CINC and issue traveling orders to the South Pole for a 2 year tour. During which time he is to pick up every penguin pile.
But no, he will be allowed to retire with full benefits. Such only hurts the CINC and overall military moral because he disrespected because this whiner gets away with shading a superior office.

By the time a general officer gets to this point, most have figured out that picking a fight up the chain of command, and trying to embarrass your boss is a really, REALLY bad career move.
This guy isn´t as bright as most, apparently. Time for Dumbo to retire and find someone else to do the job.

Re: #4 - I followed the link and was not surprised to see that he made his flag ranks, including his promotion to Commandant under Obama. That distinction should be a huge red flag for our current president.

Thanks to #4 for the biog link. In his photo, the general is decorated like a Christmas tree. Mostly "I was there" awards. I know, it´s the custom but in this case seems rather "showboaty."

Consider how drastically the left has cut our military. The CIC is restoring it as best he can considering the flak he is getting from Congress. They are the keepers of the checkbook. It is to this I believe the General refers. Semper Fi, sir.

Hey commandant lest we remind you that the Commander in Chief is calling the shots on the border, not you, you snowflake. Appointed during the Obama administration in 2015 as the USMC Commandant, I see the end of Neller´s mediocre military career rapidly approaching.

What is the point of training for its own sake when you are confronted with a real threat to the borders of the USA. Your priorities and questioning of the legitimate orders of your civil superiors, make you unfit to lead the marine Corps.
