I was the only child of two only-children. So, not much aunt-uncle-cousin action in my life. Which may explain the intense focus on my parents, especially Dad.
I’ve mentioned him before in this ongoing series of personal Memories. (They are all linked below.) How he taught me the alphabet pre-kindergarten by helping me cut out, sand, and paint little plywood letters of the entire alphabet many times over. Which I then endlessly arranged in pretend words on the carpet.
And here I am three-quarters of a century later, still arranging those same letters, only these days on a laptop.
Things my father said shaped my life and my boys’ lives

The contrast between Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump on Thursday in New York City was sharp. Trump attended the wake for NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was allegedly killed by a man with 21 arrests, and Trump spoke with Diller's family. Meanwhile, Joe Biden attended a fancy fundraiser with a lot of celebrities, along with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton there to help him raise money.
Not only was that a horrible look for Democratic priorities, but they also got anti-Israel protesters at the event. That ticked off Barack Obama, who got frustrated at them.
“You can’t just talk and not listen,” Obama said to the protesters.

The political metamorphosis of Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) over the last few months has been nothing short of remarkable, with the Menendez indictment and the Israel-Hamas war seeming to be two of the main turning points for what some political observers have described as his rightward shift.
In addition to that, Fetterman has given public statements acknowledging that the Biden border crisis is a big problem - something his Democratic colleagues never do, has scorched California's Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom on occasion, and even showed compassion towards Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and her son at a time when not many people would.

We've been reporting on the huge flood of illegal aliens pouring across the southern border, and for more than three years now, Joe Biden has done nothing substantive to try to slow the flow. In addition to all the resulting problems like the overwhelming of the system, the drugs and crime that has resulted from all this, it puts our nation in great danger because it's a massive national security threat. The Biden team has no idea who is coming across that border.
There have been a lot of questions about Chinese men of military age coming across the border in ever-increasing numbers.

If things were going swimmingly for Democrats, they wouldn’t be looking to these two to give Joe Biden a hand on the campaign trail. It’s a sign that Democrats aren’t taking any chances since the political landscape changed. The 2024 race is going to be a base election. Trump doesn’t have an issue in that department, but Biden is facing defections among core groups of what was the Obama coalition. As much as Democrats might see dragooning Barack Obama and Bill Clinton out of retirement to help the aging and dementia-ridden president, it also highlights one significant flaw about Biden.
The man has zero political skill.

Three individuals who claimed to be FBI agents visited a woman in Oklahoma. If there were any examples of the Department of Justice becoming Joe Biden’s personal Stasi, this is it—they were there to ask the woman about the anti-Biden memes she posted on Facebook. Of course, she wasn’t going to answer any of their questions, only declaring that what she did was an exercise of her constitutional right to free speech on a social media platform. The agent gives a number for the FBI office in Oklahoma City before departing. [Videos]
What is going on here? We’re seeing Gestapo-like tactics, the byproduct of the politicization of the DOJ

The Democrats' plans to pre-rig the 2024 presidential election with the help of corrupt judges and prosecutors aren't going well, and their frustration is beginning to show.
Their ambitions were grand. The judges and prosecutors they enlisted were so willing to pervert the law that the Dems were certain that Donald Trump wouldn't get anywhere near the nomination, let alone Election Day. For a long time, Democrats and their flying monkeys in the mainstream media were expending equal amounts of energy on attacking Ron DeSantis, because that's who they thought they were going to face in November.
Not that they thought DeSantis would steamroll through the GOP primaries, mind you,

Could it really take twice as long and four times as much money to replace the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge than it did to build it in the first place?
The Key Bridge was built at a cost (adjusted for inflation) of about $200 million. Replacing it could take a decade and cost $400 million to $800 million dollars, according to experts in what has become a dismal field.
“To actually recreate that whole transportation network" could take a decade or more, structural engineer Ben Schafer told USA Today on Wednesday. Huge projects, Schafer said, now take “rarely less than 10 years."
Well, they didn't use to.

Special Counsel Jack Smith's efforts to imprison Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents have hit a few snags recently, and the latest snag is, indeed, a big one.
"Special Counsel Jack Smith could be blocked from using evidence against Donald Trump contained in grand jury investigation files, which were transferred to the former president's Florida classified documents case this week, a former prosecutor has suggested," reports Newsweek. "In 2023, a grand jury in Washington, D.C., heard evidence from witnesses—including Trump's attorney, Evan Corcoran—while considering whether charges should be brought against the former president and others for hoarding classified documents. However, Trump and his co-accused were later indicted in Florida

March 29, 2024, is Good Friday, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the White House website. A slew of presidential proclamations were posted to the site Friday, including a Proclamation on Cesar Chavez Day, a Proclamation on Arab American Heritage Month, and several others, but, as of this writing, no proclamation acknowledging Good Friday.
Joe Biden often boasts about his Catholic faith and his regular church attendance, yet acknowledging this holy day for Christians was apparently beneath him.
Making the omission even worse is that one of the proclamations issued on Friday was for the so-called Transgender Day of Visibility —

The official Super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump launched a new website allowing users to compare Trump-era grocery prices to the current high prices experienced by consumers during President Joe Biden's presidency.
The Make America Great Again Inc. PAC shared an exclusive preview of the 'Biden Mart' website with the DailyMail.com.
The Biden-Mart.com website includes an over two dozen common grocery items for the user to check off to see what the cost of their total grocery bill would be.
The items includes meat, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products that have all gone up in price since Trump was president.
The list also includes ice cream,

The Uniparty is quietly scheming (again) to rig the system and prevent President Trump from ever becoming President. This scheme involves a two-part strategy: using a combination of strategically planned retirements of Republican House members, coupled with the passage of carefully tailored legislation to remove President Trump from the ballot on bogus Insurrection grounds that would likely pass muster with moderate justices on the Supreme Court, like John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett, who prefer to avoid deciding on “controversial” legal questions and risk being seen in a bad light by their liberal peers.
The fact that over a dozen House Republicans have recently announced their early retirement,
