France's Macron, alone at the center of Europe

When Emanuel Macron was first elected French president nearly a decade ago, he looked like the prototype of Europe’s next generation of leaders: young, reform-minded, pro-market, pro-European, strategic, not clearly on the right or the left. Macron is still ambitious internationally, but at home he is term limited, with falling approval levels, and looking increasingly like the last remaining champion of Europe’s battered liberal center. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned amid populist pressure at home. In Germany, Chancellor Friedrich Merz is struggling as the country’s right wing strengthens. From Macron, “This is the time for audacity”. This is what passes for deep thought in 2026. He sounds like he’s channeling Obama.

Trump launches midterm offensive against
Democrats over ‘communism’

President Trump is seizing on a series of far-left wins in Democratic primaries to paint the opposition party as dangerous “communists” about four months out from midterm elections. The president has never shied away from painting Democrats as far left, but his recent messaging gives Republicans an amped-up blueprint for capitalizing on the progressive left becoming an insurgent force across the country.“They use the word social democrat because it sounds so nice, but it’s really communism you’re talking about,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday when asked about the growing list of left-wing primary wins.

Tuesday’s primaries in Colorado mark the next front in the establishment-versus-insurgent battle playing out within the Democratic Party, one week after major victories for candidates in New York City backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.Colorado’s Democratic primaries have flown more under the radar, but they feature three major contests where veteran Democrats are facing challengers who are aiming to capitalize on the party’s growing anti-Washington sentiment. Here’s what to watch for Tuesday night as the votes come in. Polls close at 9 p.m. ET.
The Supreme Court Has Weakened The Regulatory State 2 replies

In Trump v. Slaughter, published yesterday, the Supreme Court held that the President has plenary (that is, unfettered) authority to fire the heads of regulatory agencies (though not the governors of the Federal Reserve Board, as explained in a note at the end of this post). The decision is hugely consequential. It is both a massive blow to the regulatory state and a huge—albeit precarious—step to returning our nation to function as the Constitution intended. For over a century, ever since President Woodrow Wilson ushered in the “progressive era,” Congress has been creating “independent” agencies that have complete power to write regulations with the force and effect of law,

Now that Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidates are popping up in races all over the country, actual Democrats are starting to get questions from a nervous media which wonders how all of this happened. In response, the talking point you keep hearing from Democrats is that they are a ‘big tent’ party. It’s a stupid and lazy response that completely fails to address the actual issue. The Democrat Party is being taken over by full-on communists who hate Israel and Jews. Today on The Five of FOX News, Jesse Watters talked about this, saying:

The contrast couldn’t be clearer. While Democrats spent years painting President Trump as the man who would torch the Constitution and defy the courts, a pair of videos posted by Townhall Media flip the script and show exactly who the real threat to the rule of law was from the start. In one clip, the current President sits in the Oval Office and accepts an unfavorable Supreme Court ruling. A reporter asked Trump, in the context of a few rulings earlier today that went against him, whether he would accept the Court's decision on birthright citizenship, which is expected tomorrow. "Well,

Here is a timeline of crimes and victories we've seen in the past month:

Dave Portnoy, the multimillionaire who built Barstool Sports into a massive media presence, announced on FOX News tonight that he is considering running for mayor of New York City because he is opposed to the rise of Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Portnoy would be a formidable candidate. He understands economics, loves the United States of America, has serious name recognition, and a huge social media following. He is also clearly opposed to communism, which makes him even more attractive as a candidate.

Now the good news. As noted by Justice Thomas, this decision when contrast against the Lisa Cook decision does not find alignment. By a vote of 6-3, the justices struck down a federal law that bars the president from firing members of the Federal Trade Commission except in cases of “inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office.” [PDF Ruling Here] That law, a majority of the justices ruled, violates the constitutional separation of powers between the three branches of government. This lengthy 108-page decision supports the Unitary Theory of government in that the President can remove any agency head within the Executive Branch through plenary power,

Lebanon vowed Monday that the US-brokered peace agreement with Israel “will not be implemented” – just days after Hezbollah ripped up the deal, declaring it “null and void” and “humiliating. Nabih Berri, the country’s parliament speaker and an ally of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror group, delivered the stinging rebuke about the deal just three days after it was signed in Washington, D.C. He said the US-brokered framework — which allows for the Israel Defense Forces to maintain a security zone in Southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is removed from the area — is “10 times worse” than the May 17, 1983, agreement, the closest Beirut and Jerusalem have come to a peace arrangement.

The Supreme Court (SCOTUS) ruled that state laws allowing for the counting of mail-in ballots after election day are not in violation of federal law, a blow to the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump’s administration. On Monday, SCOTUS issued a 5-4 ruling that permits states to count mail-in ballots — sent on or before election day — that are received by state election officials after election day. Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote the majority’s opinion, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts as well as Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Monday’s bombshell Supreme Court ruling established that “election day” isn’t really election day at all; it’s a period of time. Specifically, the court decided 5-4 in Watson v. RNC that states could count mail-in ballots even if they were received after the election date, as long as they were postmarked in time. Naturally, many conservatives, including President Trump, were deeply disappointed by the decision, which to many seemed to defy common sense and the notion of election integrity. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and his ilk were almost certainly cheering; after all, they still haven’t certified the governor’s primary, which was held on June 2. A clown show.

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up President Trump’s appeal of the $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict that followed a lawsuit by former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll. Now Trump will have no choice but to pony up the $5 million to the 82-year-old, who has repeatedly claimed that the president sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman fitting room during the mid-1990s. Trump’s lawyers argued that, as president, he should not be distracted from his executive duties in order to deal with “decades-old, false allegations.”

Just as his party is overrun by communist revolutionaries, Barack Obama has decided to take center stage in a frenetic public relations campaign, ostensibly to promote his so-called library. He’s here, there and everywhere, silkily opining about everything under the sun, except the only thing that matters: the disintegration of his party. Like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned, Obama is curiously detached from the disaster he helped create. Democrats desperately need a leader to rally around, but all they have is Obama. He is the only former Democratic president who is still sharp, charismatic and dynamic enough to take up the mantle.

We're headed into the dog days of summer, so it's not surprising that the topic of air conditioning is on the minds of many Americans these days. A heatwave has been pummeling much of Europe for the past week, and the East Coast of the United States is about to be placed firmly under a "heat dome," with temperatures expected to climb into the 100s later this week in Virginia and North Carolina. Our ACs will be humming, to be sure, along with the usual warnings of possible "rolling brownouts" to keep the power grids operational during the surge in usage. And no one is loving our temperature-controlled houses, more

Both sides will stand down for now and vessels can move freely," the White House told Fox News. Axios reported that the two sides will resume talks in Doha on Tuesday.

For the last decade, legacy news outlets have produced endless handwringing over the rise of President Trump and “MAGA-aligned” Republicans. And what some have called a “hostile takeover” of the Republican Party has indeed been a problem, arguably turning the party into a personality cult. But at least it has been acknowledged. The radical progressive and socialist takeover of the Democratic Party poses an equal, if not greater, problem. But one would hardly know it, given our media’s selective sense of urgency. After US tourists mocked France over the lack of air conditioning across the country amid 104 degree temperatures, Audrey Pulvar, deputy mayor of Paris for international relations, claimed the situation was partly America’s fault. “Dear American journalists and social media ‘influencers’: for days, some of you have been criticizing and making fun of Paris because the city does not have A/C in every room…OMG, this is so rich!” Pulvar wrote on social media. “As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world,

The growing use of digital price tags at Walmart and other big US retailers is stirring fresh anxiety that prices on groceries and other basic goods could be subjected to high-tech manipulation — and labor unions are looking to capitalize on the fears. Walmart said it is rapidly installing the tags — which can raise or lower the prices displayed on their tiny LED screens en masse with the click of a button — in all of its 4,600 US stores by the end of the year. The idea, Walmart says, is to free staffers from the decades-old, time-consuming task of switching out paper tags slotted on shelves.

Kyiv — Once Russian soldiers reach certain parts of the front lines of the war in Ukraine, they can expect to live an average of just 20 to 35 minutes, according to a grim estimate by Russian military bloggers, cited by Oxford historian Peter Frankopan in a Foreign Policy report. CBS News has not independently verified the claim. But similar accounts are becoming increasingly common on Russian military channels, suggesting that more Russians are becoming aware of the war and its toll on their side — a toll Kremlin officials have long sought to shield from view. The war has inflicted staggering losses on Russia's young men.
