Supreme Court backs Trump over speech

The Supreme Court on Tuesday handed the Trump administration a win by reversing a lower court ruling against a requirement that immigration judges seek official approval before giving speeches in their official capacities. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals last year intervened in light of President Donald Trump's firing of several agency heads responsible for hearing complaints, Reuters reported. The policy stems from the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which oversees roughly 750 immigration judges. The justices did not rule on the merits of the case, but merely reversed the lower court decision and sent it back for additional proceedings.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has a major problem as she runs for reelection. She's done a horrible job, including a terrible response to the Palisades Fire, and one of the people who lost his house as a consequence, Spencer Pratt, is now coming for her job. Even in the blue area of Los Angeles, Pratt may just have a chance because people are so tired of the failure, and Pratt has a real talent for presenting a logical and hopeful alternative. He's now largely closed the gap in polling for the jungle primary. Meanwhile,

judge in Florida blocked an effort Tuesday to temporarily halt the use of a new Republican-favored House map, just hours after a federal judge blocked a similar effort in Tennessee. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the map into law earlier this month, after the Supreme Court ruled in a Louisiana redistricting case last month that the state's existing congressional map that includes an additional majority-black district violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. On Tuesday, Florida Circuit Court Judge Joshua Hawkes denied a request from several groups to pause the use of the new map designed to help Republicans win several more House seats in the November elections,

Long-time incumbent Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green lost his primary Tuesday to fellow incumbent Democratic Rep. Christian Menefee in a special runoff election that pitted two incumbents against each other for the same seat. Both men were seeking their party's nomination to represent Texas' 18th congressional district. Menefee, a freshman congressman, will now face Republican candidate Ronald Whitfield in November. Menefee was only sworn into office earlier this year after winning a special election to replace the late Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died last year. He defeated Green 68% to 31%.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday evening was projected to win his primary challenge against Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, decisively, marking the ouster of the decades-serving senior lawmaker from the upper chamber. The Associated Press projected Paxton to win at 9:02 p.m. EST, with 49% of precincts reporting. As of press time, Paxton led with 62.5% to Cornyn's 37.5%. Cornyn narrowly emerged ahead in the initial round of the primary, but the elimination of Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, appeared to benefit Paxton. President Donald Trump endorsed Paxton at the last minute, potentially contributing to the victory margin.

Patty Stemler, a decades-long DOJ veteran who was reportedly picked by Garland in 2022 to help consult on Trump-related cases, sent an email just two days after the bureau’s Aug. 8, 2022 raid of Trump’s Florida resort home, where Stemler said she had “a few concerns.”

Atlanta's city government gave a Muslim activist group that raised money for Gaza a $35,000 donation on top of $250,000 in federal grants, a continuing investigation by The Center Square has found. The donation came from taxpayer funds and was among four payments made to the Chicago-based Inner-City Muslim Action Network and three other nonprofits in 2023. The City Council voted to approve, its resolution saying the money was to "support public safety patrols and other public safety initiatives" by aiding community organizations that hire off-duty police officers, organize neighborhood watches and take other steps to protect residents and businesses.

I’m totally in favor of trans athletes in high school,” Steyer said. “I think when you understand the vulnerability, the stress, the danger of being a trans kid, and you understand that almost half of them try to commit suicide,” he said,

Rep. Term limits and a binding code of ethics will rebalance the Court and rebuild confidence in our institutions.” (Snip) Which brings us to President Donald Trump and this on-again, off-again, still-being-negotiated conclusion to the war in Iran. We’ve gone from demanding unconditional surrender to shuffling U.S. diplomats in and out of Pakistan, patiently waiting for the Iranians to capitulate. Is Trump’s strategy wise?

The time for Gavin Newsom honoring himself isn’t over yet. California’s governor wants taxpayers to spend $33,000 on an official portrait of him, even as Democratic lawmakers fume over Newsom’s “absurd” $20 million proposal to honor the state’s living former governors — an exclusive club of which he’ll soon be a member. Funding for the proposed painting is included in Newsom’s proposed 2026-27 budget under “Governor’s Portrait,” which says the money would pay for the “traditional painting of the Governor’s portrait” to be displayed in the State Capitol alongside portraits of every other California governor. The $33,000 would come from the state’s General Fund at a time when

The documents also reveal the anonymous whistleblower secretly met with the Democratic staff of former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff prior to submitting his complaint in August 2019. Yet under direct questioning, the whistleblower – later identified by RealClearInvestigations as intelligence analyst Eric Ciaramella – failed to disclose those contacts in interviews with IG investigators or on whistleblower forms,

Paxton will advance as the GOP nominee to face Democrat James Talarico in November in one of the country’s highest-profile US Senate races. • Paxton secured President Donald Trump’s endorsement just a week out from the runoff election. While Paxton has a strong following in the state’s Republican grassroots, Trump’s endorsement likely helped seal Cornyn’s fate. • There are several other notable races on the ballot that highlight deep divides within the two major parties.

Carl von Clausewitz developed the idea of “center of gravity” for war strategy. A center of gravity can be key people, things, or locations that are so vital to an enemy’s ability to conduct a war that their elimination is the best way to completely defeat them. Iran is a theocratic monarchy controlled by a single Islamic mullah, titled ayatollah. There are also 80+ other high mullahs who elect that leader, though they basically select a son of the previous ayatollah. Iran’s center of gravity is the ayatollah and the higher level mullahs, plus all the other Iranian mullahs to a lesser degree.
