For years, some of us have argued that President Donald Trump's January 6th speech was protected under the First Amendment and that any prosecution would collapse under governing precedent, including Brandenburg v. Ohio. I was regularly attacked as an apologist for my criticism of Special Counsel Jack Smith's "war on free speech." I wrote about his history of ignoring such constitutional protections in his efforts to prosecute targets at any cost. I also wrote about how Smith's second indictment (which the Post supported) was a direct assault on the First Amendment.

Last week, 10 people were found guilty of cyber-bullying Bridget Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron. These 10 individuals had been accused of spreading faults rumors about Macron's gender and sexuality, essentially claiming she is a transsexual. Macron, if you are unaware, bore three children with her first husband. The presiding judge remarked that the eight women and two men intentionally sought to harm the French first lady. How is this related to the U.S.? As we all know, the list of Democrat-generated hoaxes is virtually endless; hoaxes are their stock and trade, and frankly, their only viable strategy for maintaining (profoundly gullible) voters.

The organization that oversees the Nobel Peace Prize is throwing cold water on talk of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado giving her recent award to President Donald Trump.
Once the Nobel Peace Prize is announced, it can’t be revoked, transferred or shared with others, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said in a short statement on Friday.
“The decision is final and stands for all time,” it said.
The statement comes after Machado said she’d like to give or share the prize with Trump, who oversaw the successful U.S. operation to capture authoritarian Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. He is facing drug trafficking charges in New York.

Welcome to the spin zone, New York: Courtesy of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s mammoth communications team.
The Post reported Monday that Hizzoner’s press office is expected to be the largest in city history, packed with public-relations heavy-hitters boasting serious lefty bona fides.
Putting the “commie” in “communications,” ex-Bernie Sanders staffers Anna Bahr and Joe Calvello will serve as communications director and press secretary, respectively.
His current speechwriter, Julian Gerson, deputy communications director, Lekha Sunder, and campaign communications aide Dora Pekec will also staff the Department of Propaganda — er, Office of Communications.

Iran’s parliament speaker warned Sunday that the U.S. military and Israel would be “legitimate targets” if America strikes the Islamic Republic over the ongoing protests roiling the country, as threatened by President Donald Trump.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf made the threat after nationwide protests challenging Iran’s theocracy saw protesters flood the streets in the country’s capital and its second-largest city into Sunday morning, crossing the two-week mark as violence surrounding the demonstrations has killed at least 116 people, activists said.
With the internet down in Iran and phone lines cut off, gauging the demonstrations from abroad has grown more difficult.

Rogue states Russia, Iran and China joined naval drills alongside South Africa Saturday, as tensions mount between several countries in the block of nations and the US.
The week‑long exercise, which began Friday off the Cape Town coast and is being led by China, comes just days after the US seized a Russian‑flagged oil tanker north of Europe in the Atlantic Ocean.
China, Russia and South Africa are longtime members of BRICS — the 10-country economic alliance formed in 2009 that sees itself as a counterforce to US dominance — while Iran joined in 2024.

On Saturday, we learned that the United States had again hit suspected ISIS forces in Syria in an aerial attack. This is the second such strike in as many months. There have not been any news reports of any American service members injured or killed in Syria since the December 19th, 2025, attack. This second strike is presumably a follow-up.
Meanwhile, talks between the United States and Syria are taking place:

The uprising has been going on now for two weeks in Iran, and shows no signs of slowing.
President Donald Trump has warned the mullahs that if they started killing people, they are going to be hit "very hard." He amplified on that on Friday, noting that doesn't mean boots on the ground, but he would hit them "where it hurts." He described the uprisings as people "taking over cities" no one thought possible before. Given what we've seen from Trump, he's trying to get them to comply with his words.

President Trump on Friday night called on credit card companies to cap interest rates at 10 percent.
“Please be informed that we will no longer let the American Public be ‘ripped off’ by Credit Card Companies that are charging Interest Rates of 20 to 30%, and even more, which festered unimpeded during the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration. AFFORDABILITY!” the president wrote in a post on Truth Social, using a term he has frequently referred to as a “hoax” pushed by Democrats.
Effective January 20, 2026, I, as President of the United States, am calling for a one year cap on Credit Card Interest Rates of 10%. Coincidentally,

Stellantis
is scrapping its plug-in hybrid electric Jeep SUVs and Chrysler minivan amid slowing EV sales, quality issues and weakened federal fuel economy requirements.
The automaker on Friday said the decision to end production of the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica was a result of waning customer demand and the need to focus on “more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and range‑extended vehicles.”
“Stellantis continually evaluates its product strategy to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory requirements. With customer demand shifting, Stellantis will phase out plug‑in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America beginning with the 2026 model year,” the company said in an emailed statement.

Bill and Hillary Clinton are facing contempt of Congress charges if they don’t appear before a House committee next week to testify in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
The couple was originally scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee in December but those appearances were moved to January 13 for him and the 14th for her at the request of the couple, who cited a conflict.
But now they haven’t confirmed they will be there next week. And Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the chairman of the panel, said he’ll slap them with contempt if they don’t show.
