A key GOP senator is expressing optimism that Republicans and Democrats will agree to a deal that would extend expiring health care subsidies, but the effort faces an uphill climb in winning the backing of leaders in both parties.
Without a deal, health insurance premiums are projected to spike by double digits next month, yet Senate leaders John Thune (R-S.D.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) each have reasons to shy away from backing a bipartisan deal. At the same time, failure to pass a bipartisan deal to rein in rising premiums could set the stage for another government -

On Friday, FBI Director Kash Patel took to X to announce the official shuttering of the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Headquarters building. Patel first made this announcement in May during an interview on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures program with Maria Bartiromo. Since Congress holds the power of the purse to designate what happens with federal buildings, Patel cleared the proper channels in order to finally execute his plan. The Hoover Building has been a money-suck since its inception. Original construction was planned to be set in 1963 for an estimated $60 million. The construction wasn't completed until over 10 years later, to the tune of $126 million.

A viral video highlighting the Quality Learning Center in Minneapolis has reignited scrutiny of alleged fraud in Minnesota's child care programs under Governor Tim Walz (D).The clip, posted to social media accounts by independent videographer Nick Shirley, shows that the daycare in question, which Fox News reports is licensed to care for up to 99 children, was seriously bereft of children.
"There’s no one here," Shirley says in the video.
At one point, he and another man approach the building, prompting a woman there to shout to others, "Don’t open up. It’s ICE."
"Go away. You’re not welcome here. Shame on you," the woman states.

Adevastating and chilling article, “The Lost Generation,” by Jason Savage, was recently published in Compact about systematic discrimination against white men. The author, a scriptwriter, dedicates a portion of the article to DEI in Hollywood:“Every fellowship, grant, and hiring incentive was suddenly oriented toward changing who got in the door. The Writers Guild lists more than a dozen studio-run initiatives for emerging “diverse” writers. The Disney Writing Program, which prides itself on placing nearly all its fellows as staff writers, has awarded 107 writing fellowships and 17 directing fellowships over the past decade—none to white men. Nearly every capsule bio for these programs is an attempt to communicate,

That weird period between Christmas Day and New Year's Day that some call "Twixmas" is upon us, but it doesn't look like President Trump has any plans to veg out, eat leftovers, and watch movie marathons. Instead, Mar-a-Lago, the "White House of the South," is apparently set to play host to two world leaders in the coming days, and securing lasting peace in both Ukraine and Gaza will be atop the agenda. First up, according to reports, will be Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is expected to meet with Trump on Sunday.

The Democratic Party’s principal fundraising committee saw donations slump in the second-to-last month of the year, recording just a $12 million campaign war chest and almost $16 million still in debt due to a loan taken out the previous month, Federal Election Commission filings show.
The fundraising doldrums come amid party infighting over whether to release a 2024 autopsy report on the failed Biden-Harris campaign and pressure ahead of the critical 2026 midterms, in which Democrats want to retake Congress.
The Democratic National Committee listed a little more than $12.6 million cash on hand, $10.7 million raised,

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has issued a dire warning to government staff — predicting that 2026 “will be much worse” than 2025.
The straight-talking conservative populist, 48, made the not-so-festive forecast on Tuesday during her traditional Christmas greeting exchange to staff at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
“The end of 2025 has been difficult for all of us. Don’t worry, because next year will be much worse,” Meloni said, as reported by Italian outlet Ansa.So rest properly during these holidays, because we must continue to give answers to this extraordinary nation,” she continued.

The US Department of State, under the direction of Marco Rubio, has taken a rare and decisive step against European political figures accused of acting against American interests, barring several prominent individuals who’ve sought to censor free and open dialogue on American platforms.
The bold move signals a sharp and definitive break from years of deference—and even subservience—to Brussels’ ever-increasing, draconian regulatory ambitions.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio rightly framed the action as a defense of American free speech against what he described as organized, ideological pressure from abroad. He made it crystal clear that the era of tolerating overseas attempts to silence U.S. voices and American positions is over.

We here at Bearing Arms and at other Second Amendment sites across the internet don't pretend we're unbiased. We wear our biases proudly because, frankly, it's not like anyone else out there is unbiased. We're just honest about it. But the problem is that because we're honest about our biases, we're not considered "news" by far too many people. That's fine, of course, because we're not. Then again, there are a lot of places that are treated as news outlets by these same people who are just as biased, but they lie about it constantly.
And the NRA is calling out one example via its America's 1st Freedom publication.

The Trump administration is preparing to crack down on student loan defaulters starting next year. This will be interesting because you can bet Democrats are going to flip out about this. The Education Department confirmed it will begin withholding wages from borrowers who fail to pay their debts. The first wave hits in early January. About 1,000 individuals who defaulted on their student loans will see wage garnishments begin the week of Jan. 7, 2026.
“We expect the first notices to be sent to approximately 1,000 defaulted borrowers the week of January 7,” an Education Department spokesperson told The New York Post.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) has a lot of embarrassing distinctions from a political standpoint, not the least of which is being part of one of the few vice presidential debates people actually remember, with JD Vance absolutely cleaning his clock in October 2024 without breaking a sweat. After getting humiliated the following month as well, one would think that Walz would lie low in 2025 to avoid further national embarrassment. But, not only has he not done so, he's running for reelection as governor in 2026. Even more amazingly, Walz is rumored to be considering a 2028 presidential run,

“Intersectionality” is the mother’s milk of the anti-American, anti-capitalist and anti-Western ideologues who have been ramping up their violence this year.
But few Americans are focusing on this threat — just look at the sparse coverage of the recently indicted Turtle Island Liberation Front.
On Tuesday, a bombshell grand-jury indictment alleged that the group plotted to use “weapons of mass destruction” to “completely pulverize” tech companies and other targets.
That means we’d better start paying attention — because intersectionality fuels the coalition of leftists, anarchists and Islamists intent on tearing down our country.
