Republicans in Texas: Endangering the
Senate Majority?

Original Article

The state of Texas is generating considerable buzz ahead of the 2026 midterm elections regarding its efforts to redraw the state’s congressional districts. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate race is starting to turn heads on the Republican side, as incumbent Republican senator John Cornyn faces a tightly contested primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton, which could turn a non-competitive race into a Democrat pickup.

Comments:

Here we go again. Anytime a Conservative is expected to replace a Rino, someone trots this malarkey out. Never fails. As one of the commenters after the article stated, "Pure propaganda piece for the rino club". I couldn't agree more.

Ken Paxton is one of the best state attorneys general in the United States and John Cornyn is one of the sketchiest Republican senators. The author knows better than to try to advocate Cornyn's reelection on the merits. Instead he pursues lines of attack on Paxton which are tiresomely familiar from their use against Donald Trump: Allusions to years of feckless Democrat lawfare, moral preening, and a cherry picked poll. Are we to expect something similar from American Thinker when a credible challenger to Lindsey Graham emerges?

Cornyn is a total RINO. I wouldn't doubt if he is really good friends with all the Leftist Morons in the Senate. I DO NOT TRUST HIM, we need NEW BLOOF, MAGA BLOOD! Anyone that wants to keep Cornyn is NOT MAGA, PERIOD! I see advertisements on YouTube telling us how good Cornyn is and how he supports Trump...most of what is said is a flat out LIE!

There are still pretty solid rumors that Rep Wesley Hunt, a black Republican from the Houston area may still toss his hat into this race. He's buying lots of ads statewide not mentioning a race, but building name recognition. Paxton is a decent choice; but he does have some baggage, including an impending divorce from his State Senator wife, with the scuttlebutt being that he cheated on her. Whoever wins the primary will win the general election for the Republicans. As I've said for years, a Democrat will win a statewide race in Texas at some point in time. It just isn't going to be in 2026. 2028 doesn't look good either. And anyway, I really kind of like my favorite candidates to be a touch worried at election time. Give them too big of a win and it goes to their heads. Like old Joe Kennedy said about JFK's election -- I'm paying for a win, not a landslide.

Paxton is a solid MAGA Republican. Cornyn is a squish who can’t be counted on, and can’t be trusted. We’ve needed to get rid of him for at least ten years.

Remember, in the House and Senate, seniority is preeminent. If you vote out Cornyn, you will lose the seniority he brings to the table. That being said, Paxton may be great at one thing, in Texas, but will that translate into the Senate? He does have some shaky baggage that will likely turn off the Christian base he's likely going to need.

I remember Republicans telling me not to vote for a certain dude in the primaries for President as he wasn't "electable". He's won the presidential election three times now. Hoping for a 4th, btw...

when has this parasite jc, voted for anybody but himself ? he's a solid no vote for WTP. get rid of abbott and the loser leadership, shovel out the corrupt rino/ damnocrats within the tx legislature, and the eyes of texas will shine again. as for paxton, we don't find anything compelling about the opportunistic complaints of the mrs. abbott's contractor pals are building housing in so. tx. -- for illegals-- on the backs of overtaxed citizens who are losing their own homes to this cabal.

The Cornyn Rino always pulls a rabbit out of the bag to keep himself in office, indicting his opponent, now saying anyone else can't win. Really? I am voting for Paxton. I have had enough of Cornyn and his situational finger in the wind conservatism. You know Cornyn is in trouble when you ever hear from or about him. Otherwise, you hear nothing of Cornyn, because nothing is what he does.

I solidly believe the long timer RINO congress critters own their seats, and they steal them each and every time. It has to be why SC can't rid ourselves of Lindsey. I don't know anyone in the state who supports him, and I'm not in a bubble. He was so unpopular his last election he was scared he'd get beat by a black democrat.

The sneaky little strategies and second guessing "the voters" gets so old. If the guy is a bum, vote for someone else. Voting for a bum just because of the letter after his name or what committees he might be on is how we got in all this trouble in the first place. It has not served us well and I'm not doing it anymore. We did it with McCain and Romney both. No more jerks just because they have an R.

In a rare but resounding act of judicial sanity, the Supreme Court of the United States has delivered an 8-0 ruling that reins in one of the most abused weapons in the bureaucratic arsenal: environmental obstructionism. The case, Seven County Infrastructure Coalition v. Eagle County, stemmed from a challenge to a planned railway in Utah, a project that environmentalists attempted to kneecap through endless litigation under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In a time when green tape has been weaponized to stall or cancel everything from pipelines to housing, this decision marks a turning point—and it’s worth celebrating.

Until the day he retired, my parents revered CBS News’s Walter Cronkite. Combining dignity with a gentle flow of compassion and wisdom, and always with a warm twinkle in his eye, he informed Americans about events worldwide. Then he concluded the show by saying, “And that’s the way it is.” They told me how they wept with him when President Kennedy died, and they believed him when he lied about the U.S. victory in the Tet Offensive, a lie that effectively lost the Vietnam War for America. In those days, CBS News had gravitas, and no one knew understood was pushing propaganda along with its straight news reporting

President Donald Trump has instructed legal experts to review “woke” installations in museums nationwide. According to an Aug. 19 post on Truth Social, the president believes that museums are the “last remaining segment of ‘WOKE,’” and he wants to address the issue the same way his administration has treated colleges and universities. Trump pointed specifically to a Washington, D.C., icon as a demonstration of the issue, saying, “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been—Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future.”

Like many businesses, Bed, Bath & Beyond is fleeing California. Unlike most, however, it's not slinking out quietly. It's letting the world know why it got the hell out of Dodge. In a publicly issued statement, its executive chairman, Marcus Lemonis, wrote: We will not open or operate retail stores in California. This decision isn’t about politics — it’s about reality. California has created one of the most overregulated, expensive, and risky environments for businesses in America. It’s a system that makes it harder to employ people, harder to keep doors open, and harder to deliver value to customers. The result?

The Appellate Division, First Department overturned the whopping fine in the case in which Trump, 78, was found to have fraudulently inflated his net worth by billions of dollars over a decade to get better loan and insurance terms. Trump would have had to pay a total of more than $500 million, including more than $100 million in interest, had the February 2024 ruling from Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron been upheld. The appeal court’s decision follows a theatric 11-week trial

As Muslim migration roils Europe, some Catholic bishops are starting to notice. “For decades, the Islamization of Europe has been progressing through mass immigration,” Polish Bishop Antoni Długosz said July 13, adding that illegal immigrants “create serious problems in the countries they arrive in.” Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Kazakhstan spoke more bluntly in March: “We’re witnessing an invasion. They are not refugees. This is an invasion, a mass Islamization of Europe.” Yet Pope Leo XIV lives in a different dimension. “In a world darkened by war and injustice . . . migrants and refugees stand as messengers of hope,” Leo said July 25.

She noted the structure is already hard to climb and near impossible to dig under, but said Trump's latest measure will help to secure the American border even further.
