California’s 30-day gun law unconstitutional,
appeals court rules

Original Article

California violates the constitutional right to own guns by limiting purchases to one every 30 days, a federal appeals court ruled Friday. It was the latest in a series of decisions reassessing the state’s firearms restrictions since the Supreme Court set new limits on gun-control laws four years ago. The state contended its law, was a safety measure. But the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the restriction unduly interferes with the right to keep and bear arms. “We doubt anyone would think government could limit citizens’ free-speech right to one protest a month, their free-exercise right to one worship service per month, or their right to be free

Comments:

That's right, a 3-0 decision from the 9th district court of appeals. Pigs are flying. Until this afternoon, if you bought a gun one day, and the next day it broke down or got stolen, you were not permitted to replace it for 29 more days.

The reason we have a Bill of Rights is to prohibit the govt from doing to us what the CA state govt is doing to us. If govt had it way, we'd have no Constitution. That's why we have to constantly fight them to leave us alone.

For most of us it wont have a lot of effect because we only infrequently buy guns. Where it matters is that its none of their danged business how many guns I buy and when. I hope this leads to more freedom down the road. Maybe even to the degree the founders intended.

A relative got wealthy trading bonds in NYC. He's a conservative and very smart. He moved to rural NJ a number of years ago. He wasn't a huge gun guy, but he was so angered by He's 'one gun a month' law that he made sure to buy one gun a month, whether would have done it or not. He has since moved again to South Carolina.

Darned tablet!!! I typed NJ, and the darned tablet absolutely refuses to let NJ stand. So, after three times...lit appeared to let is pass....but when I posted it, the tablet converted one possessive case to "He's ". I wish this rotten thing would stop helping. I went looking and found a switch to turn off 'auto replace', hope it works.

The second is the ONLY Constitutional right that a person has to qualify for to enjoy. What if it were the 1st? I say this because there is every bit as much difference in the 1st as there is in the 2nd, than where it was when it started. Back then to broadcast your opinion, you stood on a stump and talked as loudly as possible. Now anyone can be heard worldwide INSTANTANEOUSLY!!

#10 has it right. Before the internet, the 90% of the left leaning (Democrat) media basically controlled the narrative. From newspapers, most magazines, even TV shows ( SNL for one), both the political talk shows and radio except for a few outliers like Limbaugh and the one-time conservative National Review (I am not sure how NR is today because I cancelled when they devoted a whole issue smearing DJT before his 2016 candidacy for President). The internet came along and gave voice to us deplorables and sites like this exploded. It's why you saw the brazen attempts to censor, shut down and de-monetize conservative outlets. In the end, it didn't work and big media lost control of their once dominant gaslighting and spin. For all the faults that the internet brought to the table, it wrested the once total control from the left's megaphones.

Re #12, yes, and in NJ, too, probably other states. But, now it is known to be unconstitutional, and other lawsuits will be easier to win. And Cali is a big state, and unfortunately, events there get too much attention, so sometimes a good forum for this sort of suit.

A sprawling 2,560-bed facility in the high desert town of California City (Kern County) is poised to become the largest migrant detention center in California under a new agreement between Immigration and Customs Enforcement and private prison contractor CoreCivic. According to the Los Angeles Times, the federal government entered into a six-month contract with CoreCivic, with $10 million in “initial funding.” The facility operated as a state prison until March 2024, when California ended its lease as part of an initiative to eliminate the use of private prisons. The move comes amid a national push by the Trump administration to expand ICE detention capacity from 41,500 to 100,000 beds nationwide.

The Supreme Court on Friday reinstated long-standing lawsuits brought by American victims who were killed or injured in terrorist attacks in the Middle East against Palestinian authorities. The justices unanimously upheld a 2019 law passed by Congress that explicitly permits these legal actions to proceed against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority. The lawsuits stem from multiple attacks, including several from the early 2000s that killed 33 people and injured hundreds, and a 2018 incident in which a U.S.-born Israeli settler was fatally stabbed by a Palestinian outside a shopping mall in the West Bank.

It’s a move that historians worry could lead to the erasure of history involving gay and transgender figures, civil rights struggles and other subjects deemed improper. Staff at the National Park Service were instructed to post QR codes and signs at all 433 national parks, monuments and historic sites asking visitors to flag anything they think should be changed, from a plaque to a film at a visitor’s center.

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed concern for the privacy of immigrants in his state, following reports that the Trump administration has shared Medicaid data with immigration officials. An internal memo and emails obtained by the Associated Press showed that Medicaid officials unsuccessfully sought to block the data transfer, citing legal and ethical concerns. Nevertheless, two top advisers to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ordered the dataset handed over to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the emails show. Officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) were given just 54 minutes on Tuesday to comply with the directive.

President Donald Trump signed legislation seeking to rescind California’s ambitious auto emission standards, including a landmark rule that would’ve eventually barred sales of new gas-only cars in California by 2035. In a bill signing ceremony in the East Room of the White House on Thursday, Trump slammed California’s planned zero-emission requirements for new car sales as “a disaster for our country.” During a meandering 50-minute speech, he argued that California’s regulations would raise car prices, hobble American car companies and place an incredible strain on electrical grids across the country. “We officially rescue the U.S. auto industry from destruction by terminating the California electric vehicle mandate, once and for all,”

The ship was struggling to feed its crew of over 4,500 because six of its eight ovens were out of action, and sailors were barred by contract from fixing them themselves.

Dallas-based U.S. Antimony Corp. is looking to the state as a new source of antimony for its smelter in Montana, the only plant in the United States that refines the mineral. The attack on the court's conservative majority by the junior justice and member of the liberal wing is notably pointed and aggressive but stopped short of getting personal. Shortly after sunrise, Iran launched a barrage of 20-30 missiles in three waves, according to Israel’s Army Radio. Sirens were sounded in the north, and then throughout the entire country. Most of the missiles were intercepted by Israel’s air defenses; the missile that hit the port city of Haifa, where Arabs and Jews live side-by-side, was the only one that caused injuries on the ground. It turns out that one of the damaged buildings was the Al-Jreena Mosque, one of the most important Muslim houses of worship in the city. Muslim clerics, or imams, were in the mosque, presumably ahead of weekly juma’ah services held on Fridays.
