1,500 Leftist Congressional Staffers Beg
House and Senate Leadership for a Shortened
Work Week

Sometimes, the jokes write themselves. On Thursday, Politico congressional reporter Nicholas Wu posted a letter to social media platform X dated to the same day from the Congressional Progressive Staff Association — which is 1,500 members strong. In it, the association asks both House and Senate leaders to implement a shorter workday at 32 hours a week. Seriously: (X} The entire letter is roughly two and a half pages and reads like something written by a child trying to convince his mother that, on the contrary, its actually very beneficial to have ice cream before dinner.

These must be "non-essential personnel." Really "shorten their work week" by having them hit the unemployment line. Then, they'll have all kinds of time to find the "work/life balance."

It's a slowdown strategy. Trump wants to more full speed ahead. The overpaid dem staffers will be dragging their feet. "Oh no, we can't have that meeting tomorrow. Our 32 hour a week staffers are already out 2 weeks before we can get to that stuff. Maybe next month." Not that their participation really matters but there is a process that must be observed in a bureaucracy and dems will attempt to throw as many wrenches into the wheels of progress as possible. This is why Trump must do as much as possible OUTSIDE the purview of Congress, in the Executive branch, where they have no significant say. Dems will come to a Deep State agency to play some games and find it is shut down or that their favorite moles are long gone. Well, they can't fight that by slowing down. In fact, dems have shown they are incompetent at doing anything well. A useful strategy is to massively overwhelm them with changes that they have little control of. They won't know which way to turn first. Further, a screaming media has been such a common thing that no one will care that the media is still screaming. The dems/media will have to pick their battles and while they fight one thing, 99 other things will go through unchallenged. Further, the things they DO choose to fight about, they will probably lose, because they are out of power and incompetent. The smart people on Trump's team should pay attention as to where the dems choose to make a stand, put enough effort on that to keep the dems busy and help them to look stupid, and then quickly do the other 99 things while the dems are distracted. Overwhelm the dems with competence and speed.

Let's do some math. 40-32=8 & 8/40=1/5 or 20% There's the number that the bureaucracy needs to be reduced by. Federal jobs 2,950,000 X .20 = 490,000 need to be let go. On Dec. 24 President Biden (Santa Claus) has signed an executive order finalizing a 2 percent average federal employee pay raise in January, with increases to vary by locality from 1.88 to 2.35 percent.

If people are now actually working only 50% of the time during a 40 hour work week they will still only work 50% of the time in a 32 hour work week. Reduce their pay by 20% and all is fair.

While some may work increased hours while Congress is in session (depending on who they work for), what do they do hours wise when not in session? Congress has lots of breaks, holidays, and almost entire summer out of session. This is slow down significantly. Stop being such whiney babies. You want to work in Congress, put up or shut up.

This could be a huge money saver for DC. As the author states, 32hours a week is pretty much the definition of part time work in the vast majority of the private sector. That means lower pay and no benefits. No gold plated health insurance, no 401k match no vacation, limited if any sick time. The savings just keep adding up. I say go for it. Part time workers are also much easier to fire. That would be the cherry on top of this really great Idea.

How many of these 1500 already telework, don't even dress and show up in any office? Last I heard it was near 80% in DC. "Normal work week" for most trades, and all trade unions, is 60hrs, while no one can force you to work over 40hrs, time and 1/2, and double time add up to make the Jobs able to support a middleclass family lifestyle, fund insurance, and provide a comfortable retirement. PTO and Vacation "Banking" allow for extended days of family time/trips/travel. Most DC staffers are very young, late teens, 20's, early 30's...come from afar to "Temporarily Serve" in our Govt.often while finishing college degrees, plumping resumes, making connections to stay on in lobbying/media careers...and out partying every night.(I worked in DC politics during 2 administrations).

The 2025 inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be a far cry from the former president's inaugural events of 2017. This year's inauguration, which takes place on Monday, January 20, will be filled with a flurry of balls, musical acts, and political conferences throughout the weekend. Perhaps the most stark difference between Trump’s first inauguration eight years ago are the musicians willing to perform at the event - including country music star Carrie Underwood, Gavin DeGraw, Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jason Aldean.

On day two of his presidency, President-elect Donald Trump plans to ignite a massive immigration raid in Chicago, sending a strong message that his administration will take a hardline stance on illegal immigration. The mass deportation raid is part of Trump’s broader plan to enforce immigration laws aggressively and send those who entered the United States illegally back to their home countries. With growing concerns over border security and the impact of unchecked immigration on local communities, the move will be seen as a fulfillment of Trump’s promise to prioritize American citizens and uphold the rule of law.

Soon, open border advocates will step up their agitprop against the new Trump Administration for alleged migrant family separation at the U.S. border. A number of broader points about the family separation phenomenon are worth remembering. The overwhelming majority of migrant family separation decisions are not made at the U.S. border by DHS. They are made by parents or others — including cartel criminals — in home countries. Daily, thousands of border violators abandon some or all of their children in their home countries to make the trek into the U.S. illegally to find work.

The US Treasury Department will start taking "extraordinary measures" next week to avoid risking a default on government debt, Secretary Janet Yellen said Friday, days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. With the government reaching its borrowing limit, the department would start making the moves on Tuesday, the day after the inauguration, Yellen said in a letter to congressional leaders. That will mean Trump's administration has to grapple immediately with the issue of the debt ceiling. In the past, Congress has routinely voted to lift this bar, but that tool has become a contentious issue, with Republican budget hawks calling for drastic spending reductions instead.
