McDonald's was once seen as an affordable spot to eat out but for many Americans it's meals have become a luxury.
In just 10 years, the average cost of a selection of its top menu items has doubled, according to a new study. Some items cost three times as much.
That is more than three times the official rate of inflation - the cost of goods has risen just 31 percent since 2014, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Then, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal and an Oreo McFlurry would set you back less than $8. Now, that combo would cost more than twice that at about $16.50.

McD's has nothing for me any more after decades of eating there. Probably will never go into one again.

They can double again and it won't affect me. I quit buying their junk food 2-3 years ago when I was no longer able to talk to an order taker but had to use a touch screen. I can't imagine why people would pay today's prices.

Price has doubled, but so has order accuracy. Customers no longer have to talk to the illiterate ghetto teen who just randomly punches buttons on the register and 100% of the time gets it wrong. Now you can use the McKiosk and at least get the order right.
Their clientele is still what keeps me away.

Re #4, those computer screen ordering disasters are another reason I won't be back. I despise them.

McDonalds prices and wages are going up. Have you ever wondered why you have to wait so long for anyone at a McDonalds to come out from the back to wait on you yet wages are going up and we get the same lousy service but at Chic fi la they are trying to take your order politely as soon as you enter the door?

McDonalds' food costs twice as much now as ten years ago, so the actual inflation rate needed to produce that doubling is 25.9%/year.
FTA, the Dept of Labor Statistics has estimated the rate of inflation over the last ten years to have increased prices by 31%, which reduces to an annual rate of inflation of 2.7%.
Please don't urinate on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Add to prior post:
26.9% is greater than 2.7% by almost 10X.
Said another way, the Dept of Labor Statistics has underestimated the actual rate of inflation by almost 10X.
To adapt a phrase from a protest song from the 1960's,
"what are they good for? absolutely nuthin'."

I understand the price going up.
The price of cooking oil has doubled, their labor costs have doubled, I went to the store and a package of Potato Hot Dog rolls cost me $4.69 and the price of a loaf of bread was $4.19 cents.
The new McDonalds doesn't let you see the kitchen any longer and the Kiosk sucks.
I don't have a problem with the Screen at WaWa but damned if I can figure out the McDonalds Kiosk.
So I don't hold it against McDonalds for their prices doubled. It really isn't their fault, but I don't go there any longer I can't afford it. The idiots that are running America are destroying McDonalds.

I like the Egg McMuffin. A few weeks ago the meal was $7 and change. About 2 weeks later it was $8 and change. I don't eat there often so don't remember what the price was before Puddin Head came into office but imagine it was around $3.

It's almost been ten years since I actually sat down in a Mickey Dee's and ate a combo meal. The last time the family had their food was due to the fact we visited relatives who live 2 hours away. It was going through the drive through and eating on the go. My teenaged daughter still loves MCD and picked them. I wanted Chick-fil-A but was overruled. The service was the typical loud teenagers and the food cost more but seemed smaller. I'm older now and strive to eat healthier but I still love their Egg McMuffins. Overall, though fast food is just not the thing for me that it once was decades ago.

90% + / - of the increase took place in the last three years. Adding seven years to this is remove the blame from the big guy and the rest of the democrats.

Yes, the price of MickeyDs has increased a lot, especially in the last three years. Then again, I still eat other fast food like, Whataburger and Arby's. Guess what? They all went up massively in the last three years! Shoot, just 5 years ago I was able to purchase five regular Arby's sandwiches for $6 when they ran a special. Now? One will cost you $5.50 with tax included. But the best burgers are at a local burger joint which has been owned by the same family for the last 45 years. Either that or burgers cooked on the grill at home. I really love BBQ bacon cheeseburgers made at home!
Friends and family ridicule me for eating fast food, but that's alright. I still eat at McDon-Dons, but only when I have a "buy any sandwich get one free" receipt. That is, you make a purchase, then do an online survey, and presto, changeo, you gotta BOGO receipt. I still like Eggameffins too, which is included in that same receipt coupon. But why would I buy that when I can get a Double Big Mac, or Double Quarter Pounder with cheese for around $3.60 apiece? Just a few short years ago that $3.60 would've been kinda expensive for a single sandwich, but not now! Oh, and getting either of those Double sandwiches is good for two meals, in consecutive days only.
One other thing. Everyone ought to be enjoying at least an occasional burger. Why? In a few short years we might all be purchasing bugburgers!
