Trump’s VP? Some in GOP already jockeying

OXON HILL, Md.—Trips to Mar-a-Lago. Glowing speeches. Front-row seats at major events. The first Republican presidential primaries are nearly a year away and the candidate field is unsettled. But already, a shadow contest of another sort is underway with several Republicans openly jockeying to position themselves as potential running mates to Donald Trump, the early front-runner for the nomination. “A lot of people are right now auditioning,” Trump boasted to supporters in Florida last month. The mere mention of a running mate this early in the process is a departure from the traditional timeline of presidential primaries, where candidates typically spend the opening months of a campaign introducing themselves to voters

I guess Mike Pence isn't on the list. Assuming Pres Trump gets the nomination, he'll find a suitable running mate. I doubt it will be DeSantis, unless Trump returns as a resident of New York state. The constitution prohibits electors from casting votes for President and Vice President candidates from the same state. What will be more important will be the team he brings with him to Washington in 2025. From Cabinet Secretaries to bureaucrat supervisors, people need to be replaced as far down the line as can be done.

President Trump’s new team, IMHO and as a former US Senate Judiciary Committee staff member, needs to bring in 2-3 senior secretaries or even as the VP, someone who understands and is ready to negotiate the DC ‘swamp,’ and even get Congress [both House and Senate] moved out of the corrupt DC/K Street lobby, into ‘middle America.” Devin Nunes or Peter Navarro would be my favorites for their political experience and wisdom, as would LtCol Mike Flynn or the amazingly smart, wise attorney, Sidney Powell, Esq. #1 - It is not a Constitutional requirement that the President and Vice President be from different states. It is conventional party politics to represent different regions of the country. I vote for Kari Lake as President Trump's running mate. What a dynamite duo they would make on the national stage. Kari Lake is the gal that has all the makings to be a truly historic first real, John Wayne-type First "What a woman!" President.

Unless the GOP wakes up and does something about election fraud forget about electing a Republican president. The GOP is especially a do nothing Party when it comes to Trump, because the GOP establishment would not lift a finger to address election fraud if it defeats Trump.

Since Trump is at war with the Republican party and won't reach out beyond his base, he might as well settle on Doug Mastriano, whose supporters so misred the lack of Trump support in Pennsylvania, his Democrat opponent financed his primary campaign.

Amendment XII (1804): "The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves ..." That means, if I am an elector from Florida and the ticket is Trump/DeSantis, I can not vote for Trump for President and DeSantis for Vice President. I can only vote for one of them. I would have to vote for another person not a resident of Florida for one of those two positions. In a close race, that could be a problem, especially since Florida controls a large block of electoral votes.

Trump can not be saddled with all of the blame for Pence. The Indiana weasel had many people fooled with his religious personna and faux praise for America before he became a back-stabbing coward and a patsy of the Deep State. One thing we can count on, Trump will be wiser, stronger and less forgiving than he was in 2016. MAGA - FJB

I think Trump would have several good choices but I am adamantly opposed to Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trump and Greene together would be just too much. Trump needs to concentrate on policy, toting what he did in his first term, that went well and being honest about about what could have been done differently. MTG doesn't have enough of a resume yet and she is extremely annoying. And I'm putting that nicely.

President Joe Biden on Friday pushed back on a Republican report that members of his family received more than $1 million in payments from China, saying it wasn't 'true.' 'That's not true,' Biden said when asked about it as he left the White House to spend the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Del. He was responding to a report House Republicans released on Thursday that showed the president's Hunter Biden, Beau Biden's widow Hallie and other relatives of the president's family received more than $1 million in 2017 from an associate who had entered into a business deal with a Chinese energy company.

New York— Law enforcement officials in New York are making security preparations for the possibility that former President Donald Trump could be indicted in the coming weeks and appear in a Manhattan courtroom in an investigation examining hush money paid to women who alleged sexual encounters with him, four law enforcement officials said Friday. There has been no public announcement of any timeframe for the grand jury’s secret work, including any potential vote on whether to indict the ex-president. The law enforcement officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said authorities are just preparing in case of an indictment.

The complexities around, and solutions to, the current banking crisis lie well beyond my core competency, so I'll leave those matters to others.
