Testifying before the House Financial Services Committee Tuesday morning, the newly appointed CEO of FTX revealed that he is investigating the role that disgraced founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s parents played in the cryptocurrency exchange’s recent implosion. CEO John Ray was asked by Republican Representative Bill Huizenga whether Bankman-Fried’s parents, both of whom are professors at Stanford Law School, had advised their son or been employed by his firm in any capacity. “We indicated that Mr. Bankman had given legal advice. He received payments…the family certainly received payments,” Ray testified, adding that “we’re investigating” the role the pair played in the fraudulent business.

The Wall Street Journal has an article in today's paper on SBF's parents; and, after reading it in full I find the parents to be the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human beings I've ever seen depicted in my life.

That “law professor” bit is a joke. We all remember that “Contitutional law professor” Barack Obama taught one class, without a text, that basically amounted to how the students could use the Constitution to gain their own ends. How to manipulate the Constitution. Good old Obie.

I would guess that Sam is an only child and the parents hovered, protecting him. He was not taught organization, probably never had to clean his own room as the illegal alien maid or his mother did it for him. He is 30 years old, yet his parents are still babying him, robbing him of his chance to step up and be a man. Parents / Democrats like this is why there are laws allowing indulgent parents to keep grown up kids on their health insurance until age 26, driving up cost for employers. That is a rich-person thing. Common people try to get their kids out of the house and making their own living. Thirty year-old dependents must look like a normal thing to two college professors.

My take: fusion "breakthrough" a total dud 6 replies

I know this is a contrarian take, but stick with me here. A lot of noise was made about a fusion energy breakthrough, but I hate to tell you that for all the hoopla the results they announced were actually a big dud. I know, I know. We all desperately want fusion energy to be the next big thing. And we should want that, because the promise of the technology is nearly beyond comprehension. While it will never be “too cheap to meter,” because the costs for building a fusion plant will still have to be paid for and harvesting the fuel will never be free, fusion does promise

The Donald to the rescue? Former President Donald Trump teased an upcoming announcement with a superhero-themed video Wednesday, baiting his Truth Social followers with a promise of a major announcement the following day. In the 15-second clip, the 76-year-old Trump told viewers that “America needs a superhero!” Fantastical music blared as the screen cut away to an animation of the former president posing like Superman in front of Trump Tower, tearing open his business suit to reveal a chiseled T-logo bodysuit and laser-like eyes.

He’s making all the right moves. Senator Tim Scott’s colleagues are voicing their support for him to throw his hat in the ring in the GOP 2024 presidential primary. It’s an interesting idea. Senator Scott (R-SC) is receiving support from mainstream Republicans like Joni Ernst (R-IA) and John Barrasso (R-WY) and even fellow South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is waiting to see “what Tim does” before he makes any endorsements. Graham basically attached himself to the hip of Donald Trump so that’s a bit of a surprise. Trump has already announced his candidacy. Only one senator has endorsed him so far – Senator Tommy Tuberville.

A number of House Republicans including Roy have spoken out vehemently against the omnibus spending bill currently pending in the House, which Reuters reported could be about $1.5 trillion.

She added: “This commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral. Joe Biden is the oldest president to ever hold office, recently turning 80 years old and staring down the barrel of an unprecedented re-election bid. In the midst of that, his health has become an issue for voters, who consistently place it as a concern when polled, and that concern is backed by plenty of evidence. Biden has routinely given public appearances where his senility shines through like the rays of a thousand suns. He’s not okay, and the older he gets, the worse he gets. But according to a new report, the president has no intention of accepting that reality. Instead, he’s apparently launching into profanity-laced tirades

Remember the Trump years? Back then we were told the administration, like its head, President Donald J. Trump, was deeply unserious: impulsive, ignorant, possibly corrupt and always vulgar. All in all, a disgrace to the hallowed history of American government. One argument for electing candidate Joseph Robinette Biden was that a Biden administration would restore normalcy to Washington. Instead of crazed, self-obsessed MAGA performers, a Biden team would be made up of sober, sensible establishment types. Boring, perhaps, but not crazy. The problem with that argument, it turns out, is that our establishment nowadays isn’t sober or sensible or boring. In fact, it’s kind of, well, crazy.

By criticizing the law, Disney lost control over tax and improvement issues on the Orlando-based theme park, the suit said. “The financial repercussions from Disney’s actions, and resulting harm to the company and its stockholders, have been swift and severe,”
