Hundreds of Twitter employees apparently quit Thursday after new CEO Elon Musk gave workers an ultimatum: commit to a “hardcore” work environment, or be fired.
The reported exodus threw Twitter into more turmoil and came as staffers at the social media giant were given a 5 p.m. Thursday deadline to sign onto Musk’s workplace pledge.
The resignations were gleaned from internal Twitter communications, including a poll where 42% of 180 workers surveyed Thursday said they were “Taking the exit option, I’m free,” Reuters reported.

The first thing Elon did was take control of all aspects of Twitter and bring in his own engineers. I see big improvements in Twitter in the near future.

I don't know how things work in CA, but where I live, if you outright quit your job you are not eligible for unemployment compensation. I would think that Musk wouldn't be obligated to pay severance either.

Use a few Spacex engineers. I’m sure the code of a simple communication system is much easier than orbital mechanics and vectored thrust propulsion.

It could go away tomorrow and it wouldn't affect me one bit.
It is nothing more than an over-hyped advertising company.
Funny how it didn't even exist 15 years ago and everything was just fine.

A broken Twitter is better than the Twitter that worked against half the country. I'm sure there are many good techs out there who are not twisted, weasel leftists.

When the dust settles they will find that a fraction of the employees are enough to keep the business going. And there are enough technically competent and savvy engineers wanting to come and work in an honest, rewarding and challenging business like environment.

FTA: ''... including a poll where 42% of 180 workers surveyed Thursday said they were “Taking the exit option, I’m free...”
''I'm free'' does this mean they were working under a contract with Twitter that stated ''You CANNOT quit this job!'' These people are juvenile idiots, if you hated the job so much, you could have quit anytime and got a real job. Whiney liberals.

The only mistake he made, that I can see, was offering 3 months severance. Maybe if they realized that they wouldn't be getting a paycheck next week, they wouldn't have been so quick to jump ship! Most folks don't quit their job before having another one waiting for them!!

They left because they're unable to continue to fix things for the left.
Thank me.
I'm always happy when an employee that I'd like to fire immediately (but can't due to whatever HR rules) decides to quit with no notice. These clowns can't even get references from a giant like Twitter. They can only get references from each disgruntled other. They believe the world is in their corner, when nobody gives a flip. What a sheltered bunch. Can't wait to read about how other giant companies hired them en masse since they were so wronged by mean ole Elon the African American. Not!

The next Republican President should contract with Musk to similarly fix pretty much every federal agency. Seriously, outsource ALL federal agency management to Musk-owned companies. SpaceX, for example is already outperforming NASA and should take over its operations.

Over 40 years of working, I saw a number of coworkers storm out in a huff with no notice. They weren't missed, and the disruption they caused was quickly remedied and life went on without them. The number of "irreplaceable" employees in an organization is miniscule.

That’s a lot of chaff blown out of the wheat. Won’t be much whole-grain wheat left, but that’ll be enough for Musk.

Brilliant Mr Musk takes Twitter private so he can make rapid changes without foot dragging and over sight. He takes an incredibly bloated, chaotic free for all and fires the first half of the staff. Now half of what is left gets to fire itself. Saving him billions of dollars a year, much of which will be profit for him. Twitter is not that complicated an application. If it needs thousands of engineers , it needs a fundamental internal redesign. The problem, as Musk zeroed in on, is keeping up the performance. Hardware changes like replacing hard drives with at least ssds and more preferably nvmes can give a quick boost to performance. Paying top posters - or even everyone who is certified - for the number of active followers they have when they post, could both increase and improve Twitter traffic. Another thing would be to have a commercialization ze algorithm for a poster to be able to buy additional views from people who follow similar interests. Facebook does the latter. In any case, Twitter has a head who is a software architect and engineer, and I expect to see a much greater future for it, than its past. It seems to me like the Titanic missed the iceberg.

All the fired Twits got something like a three month severance package with benefits.
If they can't find a similar liberal leftist tech loon in Silicon Valley to give them a "job," well, then they aren't looking very hard.
Assuming you have any marketable skills, you should be able to get a job within a couple weeks.

The snarky comment to the laid-off auto assembly workers was "Learn to Code".
Supposedly these fools already know how to 'code'.
Maybe it's time for them to pick up a Shovel and "Learn to Dig"!
