Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been instructive for much of the world in surprising ways. Chief among the facts that have been revealed is the reality that Russia’s military, formerly considered to be a superpower on par with that of the United States, was actually falling apart from the inside and is really only a shell of its former self. Nearly everyone expected the Kremlin to blast into Kyiv in a week or two and eliminate the Ukrainian government. Instead, the Russians have arguably had their butts kicked by a hastily assembled and somewhat ragtag army comprised of many civilians with no combat experience. (Granted, the metric

Militaries that rely heavily on technology seem to be losing an awful lot to militaries that dont. Since the end of WW2, we have been taking on these cave men and ending up with decades long stalemates and eventual retreat. Apparently the lesson has not been learned.

But our military is more diverse, with losers given equality with merit.

When our military fights a war attempting to not hurt the enemy while trying to win their hearts and minds, they will lose. If it's not worth it to nuke the enemy, then you shouldn't be at war with them.

I wonder if we would have to have China build our tanks and ammunition, etc. for us since we have no more factories.

The US Military is not even ready for a pygmy uprising in Indonesia at this point, thanks to the very woke Lloyd Austin and General Milley, but you can use either shower if you choose.

Another falsehood. Russia didn’t get whipped by a ragtag band of Ukrainians back in the beginning. Negotiations were ongoing and it was strictly a show of force. The Russians expected Ukraine to get the message, but they abandoned talks at the urging of the West. Deadly NATO weapons were widely distributed which of course is reason Russia wanted a neutral Ukraine in the first place. Russia hoped to avoid conflict but withdrew and changed strategy. Until the mobilization, Russia had been using a small fraction of it resources while Ukraine lost the majority of its fighting equipment with devastating manpower loses. The underestimation of Russia is exactly the reason this conflict continues. They’re not running out out of missiles, drones, tanks, artillery, ammunition, personnel or the will to fight. This is a WWII style ground war due to the dense antiaircraft environment which we do not have the capacity to fight, the will to fight, the voter support to fight or the ability to escalate without nuclear weapons being used. In this sense the article is correct. We are not ready for anything except where we can have absolute air supremacy, face a third world adversary or can threaten nuclear retaliation.

Let's look at every conflict the U.S. has been involved in since the end of WWII. Every single one could be described as a police action. Victory and destroying the enemy's ability to fight was never a key component. In essence, we didn't do what it took to win even when we had the means to do it. The soldiers did their jobs but weren't allowed to win. The objective wasn't to gain ground and hold it, but to make contact with the enemy, fight the enemy, then pull out leaving the ground to the enemy even after we kicked their butts. Imagine how the world would look today, if the strategy of our military leaders over the last fifty years was employed during WWII.

I wore a uniform in combat for my country at nineteen years old. I thought I was doing the right thing for the wrong people (Robert McNamara) greasy hair car salesman. Not today I would not advise my two sons or my five grandsons to fight for this group of political idiots in Washington and the Pentagon. Protest, burn your draft card but don't go. I thought I would never say that, but lesson learned politicians want your blood shed not theirs. We have no business in the Ukraine or even giving them aid.
