The Internal Revenue Service announced Friday it has hired 4,000 new "customer service representatives" to help answer phones and provide other services to U.S. taxpayers.
The IRS said the hirings are part of a much wider improvement effort tied to funding from the Biden administration Inflation Reduction Act.
"Our phone lines have been simply overwhelmed during the pandemic, and we have been unable to provide the help that IRS employees want to give and that the nation's taxpayers deserve. But help is on the way for taxpayers," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig in a statement. "As the newly hired employees are trained and move online in 2023, we will have more assistors

I've spoken with a few IRS "Customer Service Representatives" in my day. TBH, I would just as soon work with their robo-responders than the calibre of people they hire. Just wait until their "auditors" start harassing every MAGA tax payer -- they know who we are and they are going to get their pound of flesh.

I’ve had dealings with the IRS in both business and personal affairs. In all that time I had competent and polite people exactly twice. I made it a point to thank them profusely for their help.

I've had the misfortune of dealing with IRS "customer service representatives." I believe they are instructed to give out fake names on telephone calls. I heard "Mrs. Johnson" too many times. One identified herself as "Mrs. Bates." I was so tempted to ask how Norman was doing.

The dem pols reveal their dubious priorities through policies like this while at the same time ignoring their oaths of Office by denying support for protecting America's borders, denying support for police duties & obligations, ignoring proper support for safe American communities and refusing to effeciently hold law breakers accountable to legislated law. The dem pols' policies now seem to only target, harass and persecute law abiding American citizens. Dems & their biased press gang seem to ignore peace and good will and instead try to keep everyone agitated all the time. Looking back over past decades, we have never before experienced such angry, ungrateful & hateful leadership in America. ...sad

87,000 new IRS agents and now another 4000 reps. Blowing up the IRS into the largest agency on the planet, capable of shutting down anyone’s money flow and ability to function if they don’t like your donees or your politics, or your purchases or your social media comments.
The IRS must be shut down. Ditto the FBI, the EPA, the FCC, the NEA, and the Nat’l endowment of the Arts. For starters.

These agents are hired to target lower and middle income people, especially small business owners. There are only 724 billionaires in the US, and the honey from those bees is difficult to gather. This is designed to go after the local repair shop and/or business that deals frequently in cash. The IRS also knows that the "Jose and Son" landscaping firm report little or no taxes and make easy targets. They will also, of course, have extra firepower to harass and audit outspoken conservatives and conservative businesses ie" Mike Lindel, Hobby Lobby, etc. Left wing businesses will be exempt.

This experience will be much like calling customer service for problems on your Dell computer. Best to dig the manual out and take care of it yourself.

This won’t have any impact on the backlog of unprocessed paper returns.
I refinanced my home earlier this year and the bank said my 2020 return wasn’t on file. The IRS had just finished processing 2019 and hadn’t gotten around to 2020 yet. My brother still doesn’t have his refund from 2020.
