GOP Senate candidate faced Seahawks legal

A Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Washington faced a lawsuit from the Seattle Seahawks for using the team’s corporate logo in one of her campaign advertisements. Tiffany Smiley’s "Gameday" ad ran in early September illustrating how President Biden and her opponent Democrat Sen. Patty Murray have hurt families with rising costs at the grocery store for everyday food items like hot dogs and eggs. When Smiley mentioned the rising cost of beer, her husband John asks, "Are you kidding me?" Scotty Smiley was wearing a Seahawks jersey that briefly appeared to show the blue, gray and green associated with the NFL team. Retired Maj. Smiley was the first blind active-duty soldier

Reason 5,486,229 of why the NFL died to me several years ago and why we will never watch another down of the NFL in our house for the rest of our lives!!!!! Once upon a time, the NFL stood for patriotism, America, and sportsmanship. Now they are just evil and "woke" (redundant, I know). Never again!!!!!

What's really funny is the lawyer for the Seattle Times sent the 'cease and desist' letter to 'Jane' Smiley. They couldn't even get her name correct. It's Tiffany.

You would think the Hawks would welcome the publicity since they are somewhat mediocre so far. They are 3&1 but just barely winning games. I remember the 2 years when the Hawks would manhandle and dominate their opponents.

The Seahawks represent some of what is the worst about Seattle. I am hoping that the Seattle Kraken hockey team can avoid politics for the foreseeable future.

Trademarks and brands must be protected or lost to the public domain. Ask Kimberley-Clark about Kleenex. As the story notes, it's not the first time the Tiffany Smiley campaign has fallen afoul of trademark issues. I'm sorry for Scotty Smiley's injuries. One last note: I really dislike candidates or supporters who appeal to voters or base their support of any candidate on that basis. I have no sympathy in terms of my vote. Gee, John Kerry won how many Purple Hearts...?

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California warned Monday that President Biden's plan to reverse former President Donald Trump's border policies could "break" his state. The Biden administration is planning to lift the Trump-era Title 42 policy, which allows police and border officers to expedite the expulsion of illegal immigrants. Newsom, speaking to ABC News on Monday, said, "The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership." "I'm saying that as a father," the governor added. "I'm saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution and

Republican lawmakers will take control of the House of Representatives on Jan. 3. That means that, among many other things, they will take control of the House's investigative committees and subcommittees. GOP leaders have already said they plan to probe the Biden administration's disastrous policy on the U.S.-Mexico border, the disastrous withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, the disastrous failure to stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., and more. There is clearly a lot to investigate. But the topic that will receive the most attention in the media and the political conversation will be the investigation into the business dealings of the Biden family

President Joe Biden doesn’t answer many questions without his handler-approved list of reporters. So when he does occasionally go rogue, you can rest assured his answers are coming from the heart. Last week, when Fox News reporter Peter Doocy — or as Joe likes to call him, the “one-horse pony” — asked the president why he didn’t plan on visiting the border during his trip to Arizona, Joe had a rare moment of honesty. “There are more important things going on,” he shouted on the White House South Lawn. Arizonans — and the rest of America — might disagree. A Gallup poll earlier this year showed that 41 percent of Americans worry

The vicious and coordinated attacks by mainstream news figures against independent journalist Matt Taibbi in recent days reinforce an essential point about the American news media: they think we are all drooling idiots. Their response to Taibbi’s release of the Twitter Files, which details the company’s calculated suppression of a major news story in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, underscores this exceedingly low estimation of its audience. Outlets like MSNBC and the New York Times seem to hope the American public is ignorant of the fact that they got every aspect of the Hunter Biden laptop story wrong from the start.

A member of a Boston suburb's Human Rights Commission resigned after posting a profanity-laden post to Facebook last week that mocked God and cursed her fellow citizens amid controversy regarding a local library's Christmas trees. The town of Dedham, Massachusetts, about 30 miles southwest of Boston, drew national attention after Lisa Desmond, manager of the local Endicott Branch Library, wrote on Facebook earlier this month that its annual Christmas tree display had apparently been canceled to prevent offending people. "I have never posted a negative post on Facebook," Desmond wrote on Dec. 2. "That is, until now. I found out today that my beautiful library will not have [its] Christmas tree

A militant group of Germany's far-right extremist Reichsbürger movement apparently planned to overthrow the government. Could such a coup succeed? "According to our findings, the association has set itself the goal of eliminating the existing state order in Germany, the free democratic basic order, using violence and military means." This is how Attorney General Peter Frank described the reasons that led to a major raid this week against supporters of the so-called Reichsbürger movement. Members of the Reichsbürger movement deny the existence of the post-WW2 Federal Republic of Germany. We don’t make exceptions for jokes or satire.” That line from a third tranche of company documents released by Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, captures the social media giant’s censorship culture. Its humorless, officious tenor is all too common with state censors throughout history. Censorship creates an insatiable appetite for more censorship, where even jokes become intolerable. These latest Twitter files shatter past denials of “shadow banning” and other suppression techniques targeting disfavored viewpoints. That includes denials by former CEO Jack Dorsey under oath before Congress and public denials by top corporate executives. The legal ramifications will become clearer as more information emerges.

Instead of appearing on 60 minutes, as most CEO’s would, or giving the internal materials to the New York Times or Washington Post, Musk handed the story to independent journalists Matt Taiibi and Bari Weiss and then broke the story on his own platform. Not only that, he teased the release to create a kind of appointment viewing for the document dump.

She added: “This commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral. "A little extra caution" could save time and effort, the agency said, because if you don't report 1099-K income, you may owe money and need to file an amended return.
