Country music legend Dolly Parton is known for her signature look almost as much as she’s known for her musical talent. Big blonde hair, an ample bosom, and sparkly gowns are just some of the hallmarks the 76-year-old singer is known for. In a recent interview, the “Jolene” composer explained how she created the Dolly Parton image. The performer said many people tried to discourage her from looking like “trash” and dressing the way she does, at least early in her career. “The main advice that people wanted to give me was to change my look and to go simpler with my hair and the way that I dress.

My first Dolly sighting: it was in 1965 or 1966 when Porter Wagoner brought Dolly on his show to replace “Pretty Perky Miss Norma Jean”. I had never seen anything like Dolly, I called my wife from the next room saying “You won’t believe this”. Pretty Perky Miss Norma Jean disappeared forever; Dolly soon left Porter for greener pastures.

Dolly easily captivated us 1970's teenage boys, even those of us who
back then cared not a whit for country music. And not for the (two) obvious reasons. We all just sensed Dolly was a good person with a playful streak.

Dolly Parton is not afraid to do what she wants and be who she is -- neither of which hurts anyone. In fact, she does an awful lot of good in the world -- far more good than that pack of liars we call Congress and the residents and workers in the White House. There is not a sweeter voice in this world than Dolly's. Her vocal range is wide -- she can hit the high notes and the low ones. And she sings what people have experienced and felt.
If you listen to Dolly Parton sing "He's Alive" (written by Don Francisco), you know that Jesus rose from the dead and forgives your sins. You can feel it.

When I was in middle school, I researched a paper on Dolly Parton at the National Library of Papua New Guinea, in Waigani, a suburb of the capital city of Port Moresby. Now that is an odd turn of events! The name of my school? Ukarumpa!

I grew up in East Tennessee, and remember the Porter Waggoner Show with Dolly Parton. I wasn't then, and still am not a country music fan, but I do remember watching the occasional Breeze detergent commercial where Dolly pulled out the towel packed inside every box of Breeze. I give her full credit as a business woman. She bought a theme park that had gone out of business several times, turned it into Dollywood and made it a roaring success. She's done a lot for her community. She's a force of nature for sure.

I first remember Dolly in 1969. I was young mother and she still had her natural look with her hair and clothes style on the Porter Wagoner show. It wasn't long afterwards that I saw her on johnny Carson with her new Dolly look...And it worked! She developed her whole career on it her new Dolly persona. And it helped that she was extremely talented with such a unique voice.Dolly back in '69 may have not made it without her style of new new branding anf marketing of herself.

I never cared for her look or her music. Between the hair and the mammaries there was just too much Dolly. That twang in her voice just grates. At the same time, from what I've read she is a genuine good person and obviously a success, and its hard to argue with that.

The kindest, nicest, sweetest lady you'll ever meet. If you want to boycott Disney give Dollywood a try.

I love Dolly Parton. She and I were born on the same day, January 19. Same sense of humor. I remember her saying one time, I know I'm not dumb and I know I'm not a blonde.

#8, You don't get it and sound like an angry person to me. She is one of the most prolific songwriters of her generation. A note to people with great voices: I don't care how good your voice is. Please stop covering Dolly's songs. They're perfect the way the are!
