A laboratory worker in Pennsylvania found several vials labeled “smallpox” at a facility dedicated to vaccine research and development, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The worker who made the alarming discovery was cleaning out a freezer at the unnamed lab. He was wearing gloves and protective gear at the time. CDC officials on Wednesday said that there is “no indication that anyone has been exposed to the small number of frozen vials.” “CDC, its Administration partners, and law enforcement are investigating the matter and the vials’ contents appear intact,” the agency said in a statement “We will provide further details as they are available.”
