MTA slow to clear clogged subway drains,
watchdog report says: ‘15 years
to clean the entire system’

It takes the MTA up to 15 years to clean each of the subway’s 10,000 gunked-up drains, according to a report published Thursday by the agency’s inspector general. But a new system could streamline the process and help keep the city’s 418 miles of underground electrified subway track dry, the MTA says. “NYC Transit’s annual goal for track drain cleaning is currently 150,000 linear feet. However, with 418 miles of drains in the system, this figure represents only 7% of the total,” the report states. “[A]t that pace Infrastructure would require approximately 15 years to clean the entire system.”

Comments:

Why spend time and money cleaning drains when you can blame Climate Change and Our Rising Seas, and use federal money instead? Same issue with street sewer systems and drainways and rivers that they don't bother to dredge so the water has somewhere to go when it rains a lot.

A lot was made over water pouring into the subways, but very little on why the water got there to begin with, or why it had nowhere to go. Fat salaries, benefits, perks, waste, and mismanagement leave no room for the basics. FTA: "The problem of clogged drains is an old one; in February 2006, the IG’s office published a report detailing how clogged drains helped flood the subways’ infrastructure during a 2004 storm that battered the city with 2 inches of rain per hour. The IG’s team dug up schematics and compiled a map of each of the subway’s drains at the time, but a decade later, the MTA wasn’t using it, instead clearing clogged drains as they were discovered, the report noted."

Not only that, but the cleanup in Louisiana is unusually slow. The electric company in Baton Rouge usually recruits groups of electric workers from surrounding states and power is on within a few days. Now they're saying the end of the month. That's not normal. And there was a story of a pitiful woman who had to walk 10 miles to get water. No way that happened. Anyone passing her would have offered her a ride. That's just the way Louisiana is.

How long would it take for non-union firms to do it? Has that ever been allowed in NYC?

How much "Covid" money did MTA get? How much "Stimulus"? I saw a breakdown not long ago, if I recall correctly they received $44 from every single household in the USA. MASSIVE amounts of money.

Did Jill Biden's former husband bankroll a picket line that is credited with helping Joe Biden secure an upset victory in the election for a Delaware Senate seat in 1972? That is the extraordinary claim made in a new book that revisits the role played by mob hitman Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran in a newspaper blockade that prevented anti-Biden adverts reaching voters. The details—contained in 'The Bidens: Inside the First Family's Fifty-year Rise to Power' by Ben Shreckinger which is published by Twelve Books on Sept. 21—will reignite debate over how much Biden knew about union efforts to tip the scales in his favor.

President Biden had barely finished speaking to the nation about his crackdown on the unvaccinated before news broke that he was exempting a powerful union ally. The Washington Post reported Thursday night that his executive order forcing federal workers to take a COVID-19 vaccine does not include U.S. Postal Service workers. Citing “a White House official speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss not-yet-public portions of the president’s plan,” the Post reported that those workers merely would be strongly encouraged to follow the mandate. The Postal Service employs almost 650,000 people nationwide. Many are represented by the American Postal Workers Union, which has been critical

The American Federation of Government Employees, which is part of the AFL-CIO and represents over 670,000 federal workers, said they encourage members to get vaccinated.
