Sen. Tom Cotton and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had a heated exchange during a hearing this week over the military going “woke” through Defense Department efforts to address “extremism” within its ranks, with the senator asking bluntly if the United States military is a “fundamentally racist organization.”The intense back-and-forth occurred while Austin was testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday. The Arkansas Republican, who recently set up a whistleblower campaign for members of the armed forces to expose extremist training programs, began by noting that his office had received “hundreds” of complaints thus far.

I DO NOT want the military to represent ALL groups, for the sake of ''diversity!''
Do we want the disciples of Antifa, BLM, radicals of any stripe, or anti-Americans in our military? NO! We want patriotic people who love their country and are willing to defend it against all enemies. The military is not to be a big social program, to cater to every weird and unfit person that comes along!
Let the pretenders, who think they can change their sex by just saying so, and the racists flock together elsewhere- like San Francisco- and do their own thing. The taxpayers do not owe them a living in the military!

I have no respect for a man who arranged to give himself a Silver Star for combat bravery, while siting on his azz in Florida.
As bad as John Kerry's fake Silver Star was, at least he was in a war zone when he got it.
The only military award that was more offensive was the Medal of Honor given to Douglas MacArthur in World War II,
for no particular reason except to feed his ego.

#2, you left out the Silver Star given to Pres Johnson.
And yes, the Department of Defense is RACIST. By order of the Sec of Defense, DOD subscribes to Antonio Gramsci and his Marxist interpretation of history.
If you are not woke, you will not serve in this man's collection of wimps.
If you want to fight, get out now.
UTOPIA is just around the corner. As soon as we get rid of evil capitalism. And kill all the white people. The murder includes Asians, of course.

If the services gave out medals to the people mentioned in these posts, I should have gotten a Purple Heart for the sore arm I got playing baseball for my Seabee Battalion in Gitmo in 1953. After all Castro was poisoning our water back then. S/O

Racism in the military, at senior levels.

Based merely on the way he speaks, there's no denying that this guy has a serious attitude problem. He's already proven himself to be worse than Aspen or Hagel.

Since he squeezed it in to multiple answers, Cotton should have forced Austin to define "equity" as it relates to our military. Equity, as leftist and communists typically use that word, is not something associated with meritorious, hierarchical organizations like our Defense Department. It would also be good to know why the hard left abandoned the old liberal vision and mantra of equal opportunity. Perhaps it is because they have equal opportunity in all aspects of our society. It appears that the top-down, race-centric, equity types demand bestowing things of monetary value on those who haven't earned the air they breathe, much less unearned wealth and power.
There was a black third-class petty officer at Pearl Harbor named Doris Miller, who had been relegated to working in his ship's mess hall as a cook; however, as his ship, the battleship West Virginia, came under attack by Japanese aircraft on 12/7/41, he carried some wounded sailors on deck and manned a machine gun, for which he had no training outside of two white officers who gave him instructions and loaded the gun for him under fir. He shot down or disabled several enemy aircraft. He was awarded the Navy Cross, the highest navy award, just under the MoH. Miller didn't join a militant black group to push for reform, he demonstrated by his actions under fire that black sailors could be serve in combat roles. He was KIA two years later serving on an escort carrier in the Gilbert Islands. In January 2020, the Trump administration announced that our Navy's newest Ford-class super carrier, currently under construction, CVN-81, would bear his name. If that is the equity of which Austin speaks, them I'm good with it.

#3, LBJ did not deserve the Silver Star - he was a passenger on a military aircraft, but I believe it was flying in a war zone. If so, that sort of lessens the outrage - but not by much.
