Oh yes. I agree with posters 1 and 2. I don't know if there is still a designation given of ''Righteous Among the Nations,'' but Mr. Dushman could be such a recipient.

You don't see much in the West about the liberation of the Eastern concentration camps compared to the pictures of the Allied armies liberating the Western camps. I wonder what the reaction of the Russians was when they reached this place?

I've always had a desire to study all the aspects of WWII finding as much as I can. I experienced some pretty bad things during my time in Vietnam 68-69, but watching programs about Nazi death camps can find this hardened old man reaching for kleenex. Learning about the Frank family, especially what Anne and her sister endured, has left an indelible mark on an already battered memory. I can imagine Mr. Dushman flattening the fences with his tank and what went through his mind at that time. God rest his and their souls.

Just in case it was missed (judging by some comments), Dushman was a soldier in the Soviet Army.

Yes, #11, a soldier in the Red Army. I won't disable ad blocker so I don't know if the article discussed how a former Red Army soldier ended up in Munich. That may be a very interesting aspect of the story.

I'll be the contrarian here today and say that I have no well wishes for a former Soviet soldier being congratulated when the Soviets killed many more millions, before, during and after World War II than the Nazis did.

The Russian army came across four camps in Poland when they were pushing west. Stalin hated the Jews as much as Hitler and probably did as little as he could. He called the Jews parasites. It's probably why there was little film footage released by the Russians of their army coming across these camps.

Respectfully suggest you read the article again, #'s 7 & 10. It would seem that he was a good and decent man. Sure, he fought in the Red Army. What else was he to do - just passively live under the heel of the beast that devastated his country? In the absence of anything to suggest that Dushman supported Stalin's postwar policies he would seem to be a man worthy of admiration.

If you pay attention to recent discussions of social and economic change, much of the rhetoric attempts to normalize what used to be considered unmistakable marks of poverty. Rather than living in a home with a family, you are supposed to embrace the child-free life and see the benefits of a pod or a tiny home. Instead of meat, which is now scarce and expensive, you are going to eat the bugs and enjoy them. Electricity itself may prove scarce, but this is the price of reducing global warming. Video games and travel—ephemeral things that do not last—are offered as substitutes for the old fruits of a free market economy:
