Jill Biden is joining White House efforts to woo Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, bringing him on her plane for her trip to West Virginia on Thursday to hang out with her and actress Jennifer Garner. Manchin, a moderate senator, is a key vote for Democrats in the 50-50 Senate. President Joe Biden will need his support on his two massive legislative packages - his $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan - with its focus on infrastructure - and his $1.8 trillion American Families Plan with its focus on social programs.The senator will join Dr. Biden and Garner on Thursday when they visit a vaccination center and deliver remarks

The New York Times has an opinion piece out — “Support for Black Lives Matter Surged Last Year. Did It Last?” They note how immediately after the death of George Floyd, support for BLM surged. But then, after June 3, it took a precipitous drop, and as the summer went on, it declined to even less support for BLM than there had been before Floyd’s death among some voters. The article said that among some voters, including Republicans, that it turned to outright opposition. An elderly Missouri man is lucky to be alive after he was violently attacked when he stopped to help a stranded driver on I-35 in Clay County. Jason Jones was driving to Kansas City last week when he saw a couple stranded on the side of the road with a blown out tire.
