Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced legislation authorizing direct cash payments of $2,000 Tuesday, but with a catch to which Democrats will likely object.
The bill combines $2,000 payments with a repeal of Section 230, a provision that grants social media companies liability protections against content users post on their platforms, and the establishment of a commission to study allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Though Democrats supported President Donald Trump’s push for $2,000 checks, they have opposed his efforts to abolish Section 230 and investigate his allegations of fraud, giving McConnell’s bill little chance of becoming law

This seems confusing to me. Investigating the massive voter fraud is something I badly want; but isn't having liability for posted content the excuse social media have for censoring comments they consider offensive? (in other words, won't repealing Section 230 serve to increase Fakebook and Twitter's suppression of non-"progressive" content?)

230 is a horrible law which was originally designed to let companies delete kiddie porn and other trash but has since been abused and twisted to protect them from lawsuits when they censor conservatives and anyone else who says anything the far left opposes.
It has zero pro-free speech benefits.
Without 230, the social media companies will push for a replacement that still protects them from deleting real trash while protecting non-leftist content from auto-deletion, banning, shadow banning, limited distribution and so on.
It can't get any worse than it is now. And some folks cry that without 230 social media will die entirely. That's a bunch of fear mongering hooey but if that's the worst that happens, so what?

#2 - I disagree. #3 - totally agree. Besides if an investigation is not instigated by the Rs, do you really think that the Commies will investigate? Think about it ... since the Left has managed to get Basement Biden and Heels-up Harris elected with a formula that almost guarantees success without any significant campaigning, what is their motivation to change that? None ... none at all.

Mitch overplayed his hand on this one and it’s probably going to cost us the senate.

McTurtle is against the $2000 and the voter fraud investigation. The Dems are against the 230 and the voter fraud investigation. This way he ensures the failure of all three.
He is a VERY devious RINO isn't he

It’s a start, Mitch, but what about the $750 billion going to foreign countries? $15 million to Sri Lanka to repair a boat? That would feed a lot of people here in the US. You need to bow your head in shame, resign, go dig yourself a hole in Kentucky and crawl into it.

Many of you are missing the point of this maneuver by the Turtle. Allow me to explain. what is really happening here. McConnell does NOT want to send $2,000 checks to everyone. So he is purposely making it contingent on things the Democrats and some NeverTrump RINOs DON'T want, namely voter fraud investigations, to make certain that this measure doesn't pass. And it won't.
The Turtle and the RINOs are NOT on our side.

Congress could have removed the pork, and paid Americans, but Congress puts Americans last. Worse, the Democrats want to destroy the middle class, and complete their communist revolution.

Mitch thinks appeasement will help him survive. Maybe for a time but Mitch is on the wrong side of this. If the patriots don't get him the commies will; just like feeding the alligators.

Since when does Congress need a bill passed to start an investigation? Were they going to start after Biden’s inauguration?

Essentially what McConnell did was throw a “poison pill” bill into the Senate hopper where it will be left to die. Chances are that stance by McConnell may cause the Republicans to lose the Georgia runoff elections, thus giving control of the Senate to the leftist and liberal Democrats. At this moment in time why should McConnell care, as he will become the Minority Leader of the Senate who will no longer be responsible for the legislation that will pass through the Senate, but will still be in position to grab his share of the cut. It’s like McConnell having his cake and eating it too.

This is all Kabuki Theater.
This bill is going NOWHERE.
What it DOES do is give the chattering crowd something to talk about so that they can more easily Conceal the Steal.
