San Juan, Puerto Rico—Thousands of Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are snorting and squealing their way across Puerto Rico in what many fear has become an unstoppable quest to eat and reproduce on an island struggling to stop them.
They forage through gardens and farms, knock over trash cans and leave pungent trails of urine and excrement, stopping occasionally to bathe if they find potholes full of rainwater. The former pets—or descendants of former pets—have reproduced at such an alarming rate that the U.S. territory declared a health emergency last year so federal officials could start eradicating them.

I remember how people thought that these little pigs were just so cute and wanted one. Pigs are always a problem if not contained.

The only "federal program to eradicate" these pigs should be a bounty offered on them. Encourage the locals to hunt them down and kill them. I know ordinary pigs are hard to kill and I am sure these are difficult as well, but such a bounty would serve two purposes, maybe three, purposes: it would eliminate these pigs, it would put money in the hands of people who have little economic opportunity. The third useful purpose it might serve would be to encourage a sense of self-reliance among the population of the island.

Stacey Abrams and Chris Christie have been running feral and amok throughout Georgia and Dirty Jersey for years, and there’s no end in sight, either.

Open a BBQ joint on every corner, with deep discounts to anyone who brings in a pig for slaughter.

Hog Cholera. Release that into the environment and 90+% of the herd will be eliminated in a few months. First protect domestic pig farms. Don't believe me? Just ask your veterinarian. Same could be done in USA mainland for our feral pig problem.

Instead of talking about those pigs, Puerto Rican’s should be shooting them. That can be accomplished a lot cheaper and faster by the Puerto Rican’s themselves, then asking for help from “UniParty” US Congress critters, and having to kick back a percentage of whatever money they receive from those critters who rate right down there with the feral pigs.

I don’t know anything about the gun laws in Puerto Rico. Maybe they have already removed legal gun ownership, like purported “president elect” absent-minded Joe promises to do. If so, the logical suggestion to just shoot the porkers wouldn’t be an option.

Are crossbows legal in Puerto Rico? In Texas it's open season on feral pigs, 24/7, 365.

There are alternatives to firearms, when Lewis and Clark crossed the uncharted continent they relied on a large caliber pneumatic rifle for meat.
Former coworker who lives is Texas turned me on to modern version, they have a feral hog problem and first shot and they scramble - there is a 3000PSI .45 caliber, fully suppressed 1,300 FPS slug thrower that he claims reaches out to 200 yards, they can often get 2 or three volleys before they alert - fun bit? Its fully CA legal!
Still getting acquainted but my .45 pistols are only in the 900+ FPS range so...

Quite a few posters seem not to have read the part where they said you CAN'T eat them, because of all the diseases they carry.
