Remembering Walter Williams,
friend and mentor

Original Article

I met economist and professor Walter Williams when I interviewed him while hosting a local TV show in Cleveland. We discussed a number of topics but focused on race-based preferences, aka affirmative action. Williams adamantly opposed it, still an unpopular position to take, but especially back then and especially for a Black person. He calmly explained how affirmative action causes a mismatch between a student and his or her ability to succeed on a campus more competitive than would have been the case but for the race-based preferential admission. Without racial preferences, I said, schools like Harvard might have few or no Blacks. To this Williams said, “So?”

I will sincerely miss Walter Williams voice and common sense. Levin interviewed him plus or minus about two months ago and Williams was as sharp as ever. He also was a frequent substitute hose for Rush Limbaugh over the years. Walter, May You Rest in Peace.

Personal responsibility and striving for high goals and standards pays off, as most of us know. Too many blacks follow the wrong leaders who have made an industry out of victimhood and division. The bottom line is that groups don't sit in prison cells, individuals do.

I always loved the way he could twist feminists up in knots in such a subtle, smart Alec manner. You could hear how much quiet fun he was having over the radio. An absolute genius when it came to 'splainin' economics to those of us who rarely ,if ever, saw the interior of a college building.

I loved Thomas Sowell's tribute to his good friend, as well as Larry's. I guess Dr. Williams was a black belt in karate, and one night put two guys in the hospital when they jumped him. Man, I wish I had seen that!

Williams is right. I still remember when Reader's Digest had an article in one of their issues in the early 80's I think it was. A minority guy who not only against AA and all that, but he also was insulted that people thought he was too ignorant to make success on his own steam. Funny how one of the biggest and most racist issues in the Democrat party is ignored by the media. Oh wait....they are democrats too.

Like many, I felt personal loss at the news of Walter Williams passing. I have followed him for many years and came to deeply respect him, although i never met him. On two occasions, several years apart, I emailed him about his columns, once questioning a point he made and once regarding something I did not understand. - On both occasions, although he did not know me from Adam's off ox, he responded with detailed, fairly lengthy, courteous replies. Not a computer generated, "Thanks for your comments," but courteously and specifically addressing my questions, as he might have responded to a student in one of his classes, or to a personal friend. What a class act by a fine man! He made the world better by his life. That is a legacy worth remembering.

Since announcing his candidacy for President in 2015, Donald Trump has dominated the national news cycle — largely to the benefit of legacy media companies. As a growing amount of their airtime centered upon their hatred of the businessman turned politician, many witnessed sharp increases in their audience sizes. The New York Times, for instance, saw more subscriptions in the last three months of 2016 than all of 2015 combined. During election week in 2020, CNN saw a 135% increase in viewership over the first week of November 2019. After the inauguration of President Biden, however, legacy media saw double-digit drops in their viewership.

Democrats call their current massive spending bill a "COVID relief" bill, but the half-trillion-dollar bailout of state governments has nothing to do with COVID-19 relief. Plenty of states are doing poorly fiscally, but generally, this has nothing to do with the pandemic and everything to do with their own mismanagement. This was a disputed point back in the spring, but no more. The numbers are in. The coronavirus has not left most states struggling for revenue the way people originally expected. The Congressional Budget Office is anticipating 4.6% economic growth in 2021. That surge, which will come along with the lifting of coronavirus restrictions, will serve as its own stimulus package

In what might not surprise anyone, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the most unpopular elected official in the country. A new survey from the National Republican Congressional Committee found that Republicans are in a strong position to take back the House in 2022, in part because Pelosi is so unpopular in every “key” subgroup, including women, Hispanics, and union households.Breitbart noted: The survey identified the 80-year-old speaker as the “most unpopular elected official in the country,” scoring a 52 percent unfavorable rating and 41 percent favorable rating. The unfavorable rating includes 45 percent who view Pelosi as “very” unfavorable.

What is happening right now on the border and within the United States regarding illegal immigration is being misrepresented by the Biden administration and much of the media. Most nightly television broadcasts do not even mention the chaos on the border, what is causing it and what the government is doing in response. When they do, they merely copy the administration’s talking points that are inaccurate and misleading. There is currently a surge at the border. Border Patrol is apprehending more than 4,000 people a day. There was one day last week that they arrested over 4,700 people. They are calculating that there is an additional 500-1,000 escaping apprehension daily.

The move marks one part of the Biden administration’s attempts to have U.S. allies increase pressure on Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro to engage in legitimate negotiations with Venezuela interim President Juan Guaido and the opposition party.

Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab. The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote. I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
