The Secret Ballot Is Trump’s Secret Weapon

Original Article

Posted By: MissMolly, 11/3/2020 4:17:30 AM

Americans take for granted that, when we step into the voting booth and cast our ballots, the choices we make will remain secret unless we voluntarily reveal them. Moreover, regardless of ideological bent, very few voters would approve of any attempt to lift that veil of privacy from the process. Yet the secret ballot was essentially unheard of in the United States until the mid-19th century, and it wasn’t adopted throughout the country until the 1890s. Before then, elections were conducted by voice or by color-coded tickets. The “shy Trump voter” could never survive in such an electoral environment. Thus, it’s unlikely that Trump could have been elected in 2016.

I guess I have a problem with the "shy Trump voter" thing. We're not shy. We have learned that the left lashes our in swift and deadly ways, and that in many cases, we are on our own, our elected officials will not protect our rights. Look at the massive rallies. We're not shy.

An interesting discussion of pros and cons of secret balloting. There is certainly unfair and illegal pressures applied to people who don't vote the "right" way. At this time, the Left goes nuts if someone is openly Conservative. We have seen all sorts of nasty confrontations. However, the accountability piece is also important. This is an example outside voting but similar in nature. We have watched the dem party slide toward and then leap off the cliff of Socialism. Why was OK? Consider that the process of public review and rebuke was defeated by the media's acquiescence to it. If the media had done their job and properly reviewed the dems, they could never have followed this path. There would have been corrective shoves toward the center. We would never have gotten to persistent riots in the streets because they would have been unacceptable and everyone would have known it. Also, in the impeachment of Trump. When the issues were in the hands of the House and the media, they "made" the case for impeachment, often in secret hearings. When it came to the Senate trial, in public, their lies fell apart as they were confronted. So I have to ask myself, if exposure and confrontation are good to air out and push out bad ideas and lies, wouldn't that work for individuals as well. If people want to vote for dems based on lies, wouldn't it be good to have it out in the open where the lies could be exposed to sunlight and people could be shown the truth. Instead, such people continue in their mistaken beliefs. We all have the right to decide our own vote. But when we let lies grow in the dark, it does not serve us as a great Country.

"Shy" suggests guilt or sense of doing something wrong. This is decisively not the case here. It is more like prudent self defense - who would want their car or front yard vandalized? This year it is worse you could get hurt, shot ,cancelled. The phenomenon is working on steroids compared to 2016. We'll see tonite.

we have several Trump signs in the front yard and at least three flags. I have been concerned about vandalism and we have had some minor damage to the house which will take me about a day to repair next summer. Here is the good part. Neighbors down the street put out a couple large Trump banners in their front yard a few days ago. Then we received a text from them with pictures of the banners. The text said "You gave us courage." I really believe there is a very large amount of unknown Trump voters out there because we have caller I.D. which means we do not answer the phone on any number we do not recognize which means the pollsters do not know we exist. I believe this is much more common than you would think. We will vote for Trump today!

FTA - "The Democrats are about to learn that the “shy Trump voter” has been hiding in plain sight. Tonight, regardless of how reluctant the media will be to call key states like Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, the outcome will already be obvious when these voters appear at the polls in numbers that cannot be overcome by “late-arriving” mail-in ballots. They will cast in-person, secret ballots and will be impervious to suppression. The Democrats will stall, but the election will be over tonight." This is it. May the waiting lines of shy voters for Trump/Pence be long. Let's roll.

The "secret ballot", or Australian ballot, dates back to ancient Greece. It is the concept of the "black ball" so that a unanimous vote can be cancelled out by one person. The secret ballot protects that sole voter from retribution. That's why it was picked up in this country. Mainly to protect black voters (and the whites who supported them) from getting harassed afterward by the KKK (i.e., Democrats) or similar groups who didn't like the election outcome. These people are truly Fascists. The "votes" in Iraq under Saddam Hussein were also held in the open and recorded on a big blackboard for all to see. If you voted the wrong way, you didn't make it home. That's exactly what these neo-Nazis want to do here. All dictatorships have cancelled secret balloting ... or they give you just a plebiscite, not a real choice.

No governor yet claims jurisdiction over the International Space Station but the astronauts have a lot of explaining to do when they return to earth. It’s not as though they lacked for space. Governors ordering around people 250 miles above their states seems far-fetched. But so, too, did the notion of governors usurping the role of legislatures. Eight months after the initial coronavirus lockdowns, citizens docilely accept the idea of a single person dictating the laws that govern millions of people.

The practice of democracy in our constitutional republic flourishes in the presence of contradictions. Democracy, itself, is bound by our inalienable rights, bestowed to us by our Creator. These rights, not given to us by our government by any majority or by any vote, cannot be rescinded, for they were not wrought by man. Voting is a contradiction for it is both public and private at the same time. Its process is intended to be secret, but transparent. Its agency is intensely partisan, but its effect is intended to be unifying. The legitimacy of voting must survive despite the contradictions intrinsic to the process.

Will Judge Emmett Sullivan accept President Trump’s pardon of General Michael Flynn? No one has suggested that possibility, other than The New York Sun. The general’s case, though, has become a bonfire of the vanities of one district judge who has denied the presumption of regularity to an official act of the United States government — meaning Attorney General William Barr’s attempt to drop the case. So why would Judge Sullivan credit President Trump’s workaround of a pardon? We understand, the pardon could be the least fettered of all the powers that the Constitution grants to the president.

Many conservatives have moved their social-media accounts to the more freewheeling Parler, and often have slammed the supposedly monopolistic Facebook and Twitter as they’ve decamped from those sites. I have chuckled at some of their overheated parting rhetoric — especially the widespread misunderstanding about the meaning of the word “monopoly.” A monopoly is, as the Oxford dictionary explains, “the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.” Quite obviously, if one stops doing business with a company and heads over to its competitor, then the previous company is not by definition in exclusive possession or control of a service.

The race gap between the two has come down to the point where Tenney is leading by 106 votes and the only ballots left to possibly be considered are the ones that were “set aside” during the initial count due to irregularities.
