The Secret Ballot Is Trump’s Secret Weapon

Americans take for granted that, when we step into the voting booth and cast our ballots, the choices we make will remain secret unless we voluntarily reveal them. Moreover, regardless of ideological bent, very few voters would approve of any attempt to lift that veil of privacy from the process. Yet the secret ballot was essentially unheard of in the United States until the mid-19th century, and it wasn’t adopted throughout the country until the 1890s. Before then, elections were conducted by voice or by color-coded tickets. The “shy Trump voter” could never survive in such an electoral environment. Thus, it’s unlikely that Trump could have been elected in 2016.

I guess I have a problem with the "shy Trump voter" thing. We're not shy. We have learned that the left lashes our in swift and deadly ways, and that in many cases, we are on our own, our elected officials will not protect our rights. Look at the massive rallies. We're not shy.

Agree with #1. I have never been shy about supporting Trump. Poll takers oversample Democrats consistently. The ‘shy voter’ meme is their excuse for being consistently wrong.

An interesting discussion of pros and cons of secret balloting. There is certainly unfair and illegal pressures applied to people who don't vote the "right" way. At this time, the Left goes nuts if someone is openly Conservative. We have seen all sorts of nasty confrontations.
However, the accountability piece is also important. This is an example outside voting but similar in nature. We have watched the dem party slide toward and then leap off the cliff of Socialism. Why was OK? Consider that the process of public review and rebuke was defeated by the media's acquiescence to it. If the media had done their job and properly reviewed the dems, they could never have followed this path. There would have been corrective shoves toward the center. We would never have gotten to persistent riots in the streets because they would have been unacceptable and everyone would have known it.
Also, in the impeachment of Trump. When the issues were in the hands of the House and the media, they "made" the case for impeachment, often in secret hearings. When it came to the Senate trial, in public, their lies fell apart as they were confronted.
So I have to ask myself, if exposure and confrontation are good to air out and push out bad ideas and lies, wouldn't that work for individuals as well. If people want to vote for dems based on lies, wouldn't it be good to have it out in the open where the lies could be exposed to sunlight and people could be shown the truth. Instead, such people continue in their mistaken beliefs.
We all have the right to decide our own vote. But when we let lies grow in the dark, it does not serve us as a great Country.

Man, I hope this guy is correct and there are too many physical ballot voters that overcome the massive voter fraud. Thirty thousand Trump ballots "lost" in Pennsylvania? It's already far into felony and they'll get away with it due to PA's Marxist governor.

"Shy" suggests guilt or sense of doing something wrong. This is decisively not the case here. It is more like prudent self defense - who would want their car or front yard vandalized? This year it is worse you could get hurt, shot ,cancelled. The phenomenon is working on steroids compared to 2016. We'll see tonite.

we have several Trump signs in the front yard and at least three flags. I have been concerned about vandalism and we have had some minor damage to the house which will take me about a day to repair next summer. Here is the good part. Neighbors down the street put out a couple large Trump banners in their front yard a few days ago. Then we received a text from them with pictures of the banners. The text said "You gave us courage." I really believe there is a very large amount of unknown Trump voters out there because we have caller I.D. which means we do not answer the phone on any number we do not recognize which means the pollsters do not know we exist. I believe this is much more common than you would think. We will vote for Trump today!

FTA - "The Democrats are about to learn that the “shy Trump voter” has been hiding in plain sight. Tonight, regardless of how reluctant the media will be to call key states like Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, the outcome will already be obvious when these voters appear at the polls in numbers that cannot be overcome by “late-arriving” mail-in ballots. They will cast in-person, secret ballots and will be impervious to suppression. The Democrats will stall, but the election will be over tonight."
This is it. May the waiting lines of shy voters for Trump/Pence be long.
Let's roll.

I agree poster #1... I'm not shy... I speak my mind and support President Trump in every way I can...I lived through socialism once.... it's a horrible existence...bombs exploding overhead... rationing of food...blankets over our windows....village leaders murdered because of their opinions....and now soros... the hitler youth of WWII working the system with the help of pelosi and schummer and feinstein and durbin...and of course... the clinton brat married to a soros family member...hoping for a power grab...

I just came home from voting place in Philadelphia. Everything was organized very well. The line was for about 20 minutes. All kind of people were in line - with the canes, on the wheelchaires...
God bless America and Donald Trump!

This is exactly why secret voting was chosen by our forefathers. They knew, from past history, how despots, dictators, and powerful people would intimidate and punish people who would vote against them.
Democrats just hate it!

#16.......I sent the President a "get well soon" email via the WH web site when he went to Walter Reed. And I received a thank you email from him in response. Yes, I know he didn't personally send it and he has a staff for that purpose but it was nice to receive an acknowledgement nonetheless. That had never happened to me before.
And thank you for your comment, #3. I'm counting on that; HIS vote is the one that counts.

We have been blessed with a great champion of liberty, peace and prosperity. Please, please get out and vote against Socialism and President Donald Trump the great. Including Jonah.

The "secret ballot", or Australian ballot, dates back to ancient Greece. It is the concept of the "black ball" so that a unanimous vote can be cancelled out by one person. The secret ballot protects that sole voter from retribution. That's why it was picked up in this country. Mainly to protect black voters (and the whites who supported them) from getting harassed afterward by the KKK (i.e., Democrats) or similar groups who didn't like the election outcome.
These people are truly Fascists. The "votes" in Iraq under Saddam Hussein were also held in the open and recorded on a big blackboard for all to see. If you voted the wrong way, you didn't make it home. That's exactly what these neo-Nazis want to do here. All dictatorships have cancelled secret balloting ... or they give you just a plebiscite, not a real choice.

Just voted (09AM) in our small town in NH and over 384 people had voted before me. Only saw one political sign in the parking lot and it was for President Trump .
I'm also a "shy" voter for some of my neighbors have Biden signs in their yard. But with 10 American flags displayed on my front walk all summer they may know my stance , that I love America and its freedoms.
MAGA!!!

FTA: "Admitting that one is actually a Trump voter can literally lead to a physical assault." I wonder just how much longer the law-abiding Americans amongst us will put up with this bullying/intimidation? I pray that government will do its job and put an end to these actions, but I am not encouraged by recent events.

I didn’t put a Trump sticker on my brand new car for fear of it being keyed and my HOA doesn’t allow yard signs, but we voted at 10am EST and we’re flying the American flag and the Gadsden flag on our front porch right now. Lots of flags flying on our street today and we all know that leftists don’t fly the flag.
Now, if the we can just overcome the cheating...

We're not "shy",....we just don't want our cars, houses, persons vandalized, scratched, burned, assaulted or murdered because of a Trump lawn sign, bumper sticker or MAGA hat etc. I believe that's called pragmatic, prudent, perceptive and or wise. Increased insurance premiums are also a consideration We may also don't want to incur high legal fees after shooting intolerant fascist Dim O Craptic scum and thugs.
