The New York Times‘ exposé on Donald Trump’s tax returns suggests that the president has suffered financial losses for many years, resulting in many years when he paid little or no federal income tax.The Times speculates that the presidency itself is Trump’s only hope to recoup his losses, either through burnishing his brand or using his political power, ignoring conflicts of interest. But the Times has also succeeded, albeit inadvertently, in debunking several common anti-Trump conspiracy theories.Russia. The Times found no evidence of any links to Russia that were previously unreported. The tax returns, it says, do not “reveal any previously unreported connections to Russia.”

The communist NYTs has absolutely no understanding of the real estate business, or taxation. The IRS and NY Dept of Revenue inform taxpayers that their returns are confidential. It appears that is another lie.

God forbid, he might use his political power to enrich himself or his family. That watchdog of political ethics, the NYT, would get right on it. Why, he might even try to get members of his family on the boards of foreign companies or Investors.

The Times misses the reason why Trump is not wanting to release his taxes. He's doing it so it ends up in the Supreme Court and goes against him. Yes that's right. Trump's plan is to use this to eventually get all politicians and family members to be audited every couple of years. Do you really think Trump is hiding anything? But others are. This is to get them audited and booted out. Think Pelosi, Schiff and others. Trump will probably ask for audits next year on all politicians and family members.

The Clintons said they were broke when they left the White House. They are now worth millions with several multi-million dollar houses. The Obamas just attached their checkbook to the treasury and seem to have more money than they can spend. I still say that billion dollars on a palette they supposedly sent to Iran never made it there. Same with the $500 million they gave to the Muslim brotherhood.

According to the NY Times, Trump began avoiding paying taxes in 2001 and yet he's never been charged with tax evasion. This story has already gone up in smoke.

Anyone who pays taxes realizes that the only way you get a refund is either with tax credits or by OVER PAYING your withholding or quarterly tax payments. Trump didn't get a $72,000,000 refund with child tax credits.

The disgraceful Cyrus Vance wants to find out where the leak originated. That will be the day. Our justice officials are corrupt criminals. Give Vance a little pencil moustache and some shiny pointed shoes and send him to Guatemala. That's where he belongs.

If Donald Trump did not pay the amount of federal tax that the law required him to pay you can bet that Obama and the IRS would have been after him all along. If someone or some entity stole and released Trump's federal tax data to the New York Times for political purposes, the perpetrator(s) should be found and punished to the full extent of the law, as if that can happen to the President, imagine what they could do to you. Trump has said that he gets audited every year, nobody has disputed that, so the IRS would know if he was a tax cheat or was simply paying the amount that the law required him to pay.

I doubt the story is true. But Pres Trump took 0 salary in 2017 and his businesses have been targeted for boycotts and extra security, so i could understand that he had no income from those businesses.

OK, a few points need to be elucidated. Tax AVOIDANCE is perfectly legal - using everything legally available to avoid paying more than you have to. Tax EVASION is illegal. Ain't nobody saying Trump evaded paying taxes. He (and his companies) are probably audited every couple of years, and have been for MANY years. Second, one word: DEPRECIATION.

I used to read stories about a writer or actor taking a deal for a percentage of a movie's profits. The movie would make a ton of money, but the accountants would find a way to show a loss and deny the employees payment. Accountants know every legal trick in the book to save the boss some money.
A man like Trump, who oversees an empire, is not going to sit down and read every line item for his hotels, golf courses, apartment buildings, etc. He has to trust his finances to a team of accountants and the NYT, the powers that be in New York and the Feds all know that. Acting like they're surprised by any of this stuff, especially when New York is well-known for going after every dime it thinks it's owed, is the the height of hypocrisy.

I presume the leak came from Cyrus Vance's office. Strange that no one in the office notice that copies were being made on their machines. It had to tie up a machine or two for weeks, to give the tax reports to the Times. Can we get a polygraph of the folks with access to the records especially low level workers who would have been assigned such a tedious task.

Saw an article showing Tater Stelter braying in glee that Trump not paying any taxes is some sort of indictment. It isn't. trump broke no laws. Tater's argument is actually with the US tax code, not PRESIDENT Trump.

Private citizen and businessman Donald Trump did not make the tax laws that were in force during the years supposedly covered in the New York Times expose. Besides invading Trump's privacy, apparently using obviously stolen tax data as a basis, the New York Times instead of making pure politically based insinuations a couple of days before the first Presidential debate, should show exactly how and where Trump violated the tax laws. Trump's private business activities before be was elected as US President are completely different then Joseph Biden and his family using Biden's corrupt "Rainmaker" status as a US Senator and US Vice-President to suck up millions of dollars from foreign entities and individuals looking for favors from the US Government, some of who are very adversarial to US interests and national security.
