It’s obvious to all, at this point, that factional division is reaching a breaking point in America. Like a pair of locked-together tectonic plates pulling slowly in opposite directions, the strain has been increasing for a long time now—and when seismic ruptures finally occur, they happen suddenly, and release enormously destructive energies.
Some years back, John Derbyshire referred to this pent-up tension as a “cold civil war,” and here in 2020 more and more of us are getting the feeling that the term is apt. Is it? (Snip) Throughout history, civil war has been regarded as uniquely evil. It pits neighbor against neighbor and brother against brother.

Yep. Only one way this gets resolved. Don't know when, but it seems closer now than it did last year.

Like Shiites vs. Sunnis, in America, if we want to save it, it will be patriots vs. liberals and all their factions. Liberals are at war with patriotic Americans and we better be ready to fight for our country, and give no quarter to the enemy.

I vote on giving the Libs their own country. It will be a bit disjointed, but that won't matter because it won't last long. While I browsed this article I ran across the word "successionist". I certainly hope this was just a typo. A successionist is nothing at all like a secessionist. Practically, an opposite!

The observation of a "singularity" cycles every four years. I know I'm getting old when I keep hearing such about America being on the verge of a great awakening, a political re-alignment and all that blather. If 9/11 didn't cause a shift, nothing will. Why?
Because "good government" demanded that the public push large amounts of money to the major political parties to keep our political institutions "clean" post-Watergate. The two major parties have regular infusions of tax dollars, and that keeps them flush during the worst of times. They write the laws that favor their interests, keeping challengers at bay. PDT beat them at their own game. Now they are trying desperately to dump him. Try to put the two out of business...or out-spend them...go ahead and try taking one over. Watch PDT try...

#4, no "successionist" was not a typo. According to the article, a "secessionist" is someone who fights to secede, to leave, the nation where the civil war is happening, while a "Successionist" is someone who fights to take over power in the nation where the civil war is happening.

I think it's safe to say that most people who vote red do so because of their own firmly held belief system. I don't think that can be said of the blue voters. Many, many of them are most certainly "useful idiots" who have been thoroughly duped by the media, academia and their own history of voting Democrat because grandpa did. If it came down to real armed conflict, I wouldn't expect to see many of the latter group willing to fight for their side. In fact, it might cause more than a few to wake up and smell the coffee.
Meanwhile, conventional wisdom holds that it only takes about 1/3 of the population to shift the entire political landscape. Does the left really have that many true believers, or has the media blown it all out of proportion?

The only way to avoid the inevitable breakup or bloodshed is for one party to be soundly defeated at the polls and for that party to accept the results. And for the winning party to govern fairly.
In this day of hyperpartisanship, I find the above scenario as highly unlikely. The two sides are polar opposites with a middle to interested in social media to care one way or another.

"to find a future timeline that avoids the dreadful singularity of civil war?"
If the opposition knows that you will avoid war at all costs they KNOW they have already won. They can say and do anything, no matter how corrupt or illegal and you will not fight back. They will come into your neighborhoods and reign havoc and you will do nothing to stop them. They will confiscate your arms, arrest your you and your fellow citizens, and kill them and you will do nothing to stop them.
Civil war is terrible. A Socialist/Communist/anarchist society is far worse, for us AND the world. Fear of using forceful resistance will lead to forced oppression. Overthrow of the US will cast the world into chaos, hell on earth.
As to the loss of our bridge to the past and our sense of "reverent appreciation for what their ancestors have bequeathed them, and a sense of duty to preserve, cherish, and build upon it for generations yet unborn", this has been a deliberate deconstruction by Leftist forces. They have stealthily advanced this narrative over decades of deception. We have been frogs in water slowly heated to boiling, unappreciative of our ultimate danger. If they had continued their slow, behind the scenes attack, in a couple more decades they may have unstoppably achieved their goals.
But two critical elections happened. The first was the election of Barack Obama. This wild and unexpected success emboldened the Left. Their time of caution had ended. They could advance their agenda openly. But ... they overplayed their hand and BO REFUSED to go into re entrenchment. Under BO's arrogant leadership the party massively crumbled. He pushed things through but through declaration, not law. These were ephemeral gains and mostly resented. Hillary was supposed to cement the progressive changes in place.
Then the second election, Trump. If another Republican, Bush for example, was elected, the progressives could have gone back to their slow erosion of American society with the passive and sometimes positive support of another feckless Bush. This could be said about EVERY possible Republican.
Except Trump. Trump was boldly and lovingly patriotic. He pushed Conservative ideals. He accurately identified the possible improvements that could be made in the economy and social programs. And ... he won. And ... he was truthful in what he planned to do and capable in getting a lot of it done. The contrast between BO's America and Trump's America was starkly noticeable. Trump's actions resulted in a massive positive gain for Americans in numerous ways. The choice between a Conservative and proud America as envisioned by the founders and codified in our Constitution vs. the progressives deconstructionist approach was laid bare and open to all. The results spoke for themselves. Progressives had failed. Defeat stared them in the face.
Worse, they had been exposed and roadblocked. This is what triggered their insane fury. This is what brings us to Civil War. We see the choice and the likely result. Can you accept the destruction of America and world chaos? What must we do to stop that?

America is too great a country, and too many people have died to preserve it, for me to EVER give it up to the Marxists! They may win elections, but there are too many of us to be conquered.
I would venture to say that almost all people who think they want Marxist/socialist government would change their minds, soon after it was implemented. They have been indoctrinated to believe they want it, but when they have to live it, there will be an epiphany!

There will be no civil war. Wars are fought by the young. Do you really think the young with all their tats and piercings will give up their cell phones and tablets to go fight a war? No way!

Impose the draft. See how many young Americans will fight for socialism. My guess is none. They won't even fight for their I phones. The ones who will are already in the US military and God Bless Them.

They don't get one inch of this nation. Too many died defending it from far worse enemies than willfully stupid Americans who are the richest, people with the most freedoms in the history of humanity. If they insist on trying to impose some barfly version of communism for losers, I will resist. By that I mean to my death. I know too much history and have enjoyed too much freedom to give it up to a mob. Either a street mob of morons or a 'legal' mob of seditious traitors. I won't move. I will stand my ground. If the price of my E ticket for living during the best years of humanity in the best place on Earth, is fighting to my death, it is still a bargain. Far more paid that price for far less comfort and reward. The evil can do what it wants. I know what I will do. It will be epic or a meaningless moment, but if they want to dance, we will dance. Everyone has to decide what price is too much. Vote like your life depends on it.

No it's not. Real Americans have barely begun to push back. I guess we are simply waiting for the leftist tantrum to end or for the bad children to do something especially heinous to trigger our Saint George moment. I feel sorry for them when that moment occurs.

This is true: We certainly are on the verge of some kind of civil war. The left has been preparing for it for many decades with the takeover of almost all our institutions, and a large portion of Americans, especially young ones, are ignorant and confused, susceptible to the propaganda that assaults us constantly. Pray for our country.
