Gov. Andrew Cuomo is begging wealthy New Yorkers to return to the city to save it from economic ruin while fighting off calls from other lawmakers to raise their taxes, a move he fears could permanently drive the top 1 percent out of the city. Thousands of New York City residents fled Manhattan and Brooklyn earlier this year when the city was the COVID-19 epicenter of the world. Many flocked to their second homes in the Hamptons or upstate, while others rented or bought new properties, abandoning their expensive city apartments. Now, six months on with no end to the national nightmare in sight, many are laying down permanent roots.

I'm amazed that Prince Andrew the Feeble's shoulder isn't dislocated from all of the back patting he's been giving himself (especially over his "actions" limiting the number of nursing home deaths and his getting Trump to cave and give NYS 30,000 ventilators. [sarcasm intended]

Wealthy New York residents will return when the benefits outweigh the costs of doing so.
Cuomo and deBlasio's policies have failed miserably to justify the costs of living in New York.
Wealthy people are not stupid, New York political officeholders are.

So apparently New York had the virus nicely handled, half the deaths in the entire country, and Cuomo figures his biggest problem is the rednecks from "out there" bringing the bug back in ? Sounds like Mr. C has bought HIMSELF several drinks too many. Your ex NYC cash cows are out in the free world and they are likely thinking about staying there.

New Yorkers can read, Mr. Mayor.
They read how high the new crime wave is getting, even in Manhattan.
They were lucky to get out before it became too hard to sell those places.
I got out of So Cal just before it turned to garbage.
I bet they love it where ever they are now, just I I do where I moved to.
No going back.

I read somewhere and I can't remember where but there is a 100 million dollar apartment being built on Billionaires Row.
Whoever built it probably should not expect potential buyers to be knocking on his door any time soon. I would not want to be in NYC real estate now.
It will take years and changes in the state and city administrations before confidence returns.
NYC needs a Trump in the statehouse or in Gracie Mansion.
Andrew has an extreme amount of chutzpah to ask taxpayers he despises to save the city.
I hope New York voters are learning a lesson here but I am sceptical.

Why? They've discovered they don't need NY, and if they live in the Upper East Side, they're seeing a significant increase in robberies.
I do wonder if this will affect the November elections where Republicans, Conservatives and other party folks are able to vote in massive numbers to make a difference on flipping 3-5 Congressional seats.

What a putz. Trump is not constitutionally able to set restrictions and guidelines for every State and Cuomo knows this. It’s just a handy excuse to cover up his own incompetence. The wealthy won’t be back. The middle class will get hit with the taxes and they will be in the next wave to escape. Liberalism on display.

I honestly can't remember the last lie-beral that I ever met that wasn't both!!!
And Cuomo is a perfect example!!! How a person can be that stupid and that evil at the same time is just mind boggling!!!

When you as a politician are tolerant of wealthy and just plain folks being mugged and robbed on the streets, you can forget the wealthy putting themselves in that position if they can help it. And in that case with wealthy they can just say goodbye.

This is mainly due to the $10K limit on state income taxes that can be credited in federal income taxes implemented in President Trump's tax bill. This puts a glaring spotlight on high state income tax states. States without income tax were effectively subsidizing states with high taxes at the federal level. Letting criminals out of prison, defunding the police and letting radicals burn and loot as they please probably doesn't help much either.
