Remembering my friend Herman Cain —
businessman, media personality and unlikely politician

Original Article

Herman Cain, who died Thursday after being hospitalized for coronavirus, was Trump before Trump. I first met Herman Cain in 2011, when he was running for the Republican nomination for president. He was the Donald Trump candidate before Trump: a successful businessman, a Washington outsider, a larger-than-life personality with an extraordinary story. In those days the only people who dared run for president were governors or Washington insiders. So when Herman Cain threw his hat into the ring for president, the Washington establishment couldn’t wait to treat it like a joke. What did he know about government? Politics? Elections? Who does he think he is trying to run for president? Sound familiar?

Oh, yes, Herman Cain is surely and sorely missed. He was never the angry, bitter man, holding grudges, unforgiveness. He always brought a smile to my face; and laughter to us. We never saw a bit of bitterness in his character or approach to life and interpersonal relations. On political issues he was such a clear thinker... perhaps that was the mathematician in him! He loved people, you could see it! A couple of weeks ago I started trying to find out how Mr. Cain was doing because we hadn't heard a word since he was admitted to a hospital. Knowing he had covid, was an "older" gentleman, and that he had survived a very serious battle with cancer, we were really worried. And then I read that he was doing better EXCEPT that they needed to "strengthen his lungs" I was scared. We had of course been praying for healing. God chose to take him home. Good-bye, dear man.

With everything that's been going on lately, this was the worse blow of all. Cain to me was the best of the best of all the contenders for 2012. I always enjoyed his happy demeanor and hearing what he had to say...especially his 999 idea for the economy. He was brilliant on many levels. Herman Cain will be missed and not forgotten. FTA - "His straightforward style, booming voice and infectious optimism made him a natural." What a crying shame the country could not have benefitted from Mr. Cain's talents at the time. Rest in Peace, sir. We know you are still smiling upon us. Since you are now a lot closer to God than we are, would you mind saying a few more prayers for the President and us. We could use it.

This is so very sad and heart breaking. Cain was one of my top favorite public figures. He was kind, classy, and intelligent; didn't have to grab the spotlight because he was already accomplished. He was so good natured in a culture of bitter and vulgar people; always great to listen to....and an awesome example to young people. It's a great loss; he was still young. RIP

Yes, even God must be rejoicing to have Herman join him in that 'better place'. Herman Cain was 'everything good' all wrapped up in one human being. Not having much extra money - ever - I very sparingly give to those candidates whom I adore and trust from afar. I remember donating to Herman's campaign way back when; just had to do it. This year I gave to Burgess Owens' campaign - for the same reason. Side note: My race? Caucasian.

Biden’s Vice Presidential Angst 11 replies

Would Vice President Biden’s search for a running mate have been so fraught if he hadn’t announced his plan to exclude male candidates from consideration? The thought occurs to us in the wake of the Washington Post’s story about Mr. Biden’s decision to delay by as much as two weeks the announcement of his choice and the ill-feeling among Democrats as jockeying for the position has intensified among the potential picks. “Even some longtime Biden allies worry that the process has become ‘messier than it should be,’ pitting women, especially Black women, against one another,” reports the Post’s Annie Linsky.
Why Voting By Mail Imperils
Biden More Than Trump

The Democrats are obviously committed to using the COVID-19 pandemic as the latest pretext for achieving their longtime goal of widespread voting by mail. They may, however, end up outsmarting themselves. The Democrats are so invested in their revisionist history concerning Bush v. Gore that they have forgotten why SCOTUS actually stopped the Florida recounts on December 12, 2000. That was the “safe harbor” date after which the state’s electors may not have been counted. Federal law requires that states must resolve post-election disputes (e.g. recounts) within thirty-five days after Election Day or risk disfranchising their voters. In 2000, that would have changed the outcome of the presidential election.

Get this: Democrats want to scrap this year’s presidential debates. It’s not hard to guess why. “Whatever you do,” CNN’s Joe Lockhart, who served as President Bill Clinton’s press secretary, advised Joe Biden last week, “don’t debate” President Trump. Dem strategist Zac Petkanas argues: “This is not a normal presidential election, and Trump is not a legitimate candidate” and so doesn’t deserve a debate. (Never mind that Trump won an overwhelming majority of electoral votes.)

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a "bizarre" habit of bragging about arrests that never happened, Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Monday. "He’s dreamed of it and thought of it a great deal," Hemingway, senior editor of The Federalist, told host Tucker Carlson. "And he's had a lifetime of storytelling. I mean, I don't think he's the only politician out there to exaggerate or tell stories but he really is notable for this, and it was something that caused problems for him the first time he ran for president [in 1988] when that candidacy was derailed by his lies, his plagiarism."

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune published a detailed report that shed light on the interaction between the mayor's office and Walz in the early days of the protest. The governor's office made it clear that National Guard Troops were ready within 24 hours of the mayor's informal request, but Frey seems to be unconvinced

Sometimes you close down the bar. And sometimes the Barr closes down you! I think Attorney General Barr should volunteer to do as many hearings as Democrats want. There are at least two Democratic ex-senators (McCaskill and Donnelly) who blame their loss in the 2018 election to the Democratic freak show over the Kavanaugh nomination. Here’s a fun idea for our Troller-in-Chief: suggest appointing Barr to the Supreme Court.

Protesters in Gotham and other cities around the nation are so used to getting their way, they’ve been spoiled. Their illegal occupation of our streets and parks has become so routine that the protesting class throws tantrums when it faces consequences, however rarely that happens. Last week’s arrest of Nikki Stone, wanted for alleged serial vandalism of police cameras, was a case in point. The 18-year-old homeless woman was marching in a “peaceful,” though non-permitted, march down Second Avenue when plainclothes NYPD officers arrested her and put her in an unmarked van.

One of the basic tasks of the political Left, not only in contemporary America but on a worldwide basis ever since the French Revolution, is to identify those social institutions that are healthy and functional, then ruin them completely, and call this result “reform.” Sometimes millions of people die as a result of the Left’s appetite for “reform” (e.g., collectivization of agriculture in the Soviet Union), but always innocent people are made to suffer on behalf of the allegedly idealistic motives of the self-anointed progressive “reformers.” Scarcely half a century ago, America’s system of higher education was the envy of the world,
