California’s Woke Hypocrisy

Original Article

No state wears its multicultural veneer more ostentatiously than California. The Golden State’s leaders believe that they lead a progressive paradise, ushering in what theorists Laura Tyson and Lenny Mendonca call “a new progressive era.” Others see California as deserving of nationhood; it reflects, as a New York Times columnist put it, “the shared values of our increasingly tolerant and pluralistic society.” In response to the brutal killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti announced plans to defund the police—a move applauded by Senator Kamala Harris, a prospective Democratic vice presidential candidate, despite the city’s steep rise in homicides.

"“the shared values of our increasingly tolerant and pluralistic society.” An perfect example of what George Orwell in his novel "1984" prophesied as "Doublethink" and "Doublespeak" i.e. "the act of holding, simultaneously, two opposite, individually exclusive ideas or opinions or beliefs" . In our age we have come to understand that untrammeled "Tolerance and diversity" means a diminution and dilution of the breadth and extent of "shared beliefs and values" and must logically lead to the extinction of Tolerance and Diversity. Human wisdom has it as "the house divided against itself cannot stand".

If California was not billions of dollars in debt for their "progressive" existence they might have earned a bit of credibility for trying something different. Now they are going hat-in-hand to the US Taxpayers to rescue them from their experiment in Liberal Utopia. They are joined by Illinois, New York, Michigan, Washington and Minnesota in their need for pallets of cash to patch up their mistakes.

John MacArthur's church is defying the Californication governor's edict to shut down churches, and they are resuming services this Sunday with no masks and no social distancing. Call it peaceful protesting, if you will, but this is some bold stuff! Dr. Mac said he wasn't doing anything bold; he says he's following the Constitution and not Nero. Our freedom and rights are God endowed and not by permission of government. The Christian left and squishy middle's heads are exploding. Dr. Mac served Newsom and company with this: "The pastors and elders of Grace Community Church, therefore, “respectfully inform our civic leaders that they have exceeded their legitimate jurisdiction, and faithfulness to Christ prohibits us from observing the restrictions they want to impose on our corporate worship services,” he added." Boom!

Wasn't Kamal Harris vehemently criticized for throwing the book at criminals when she was a prosecutor? Or am I thinking of someone else? Because, if I am right, how does this compute with defunding the Police?

Get your history right. California has been woke for 100 years. It was 100 years ago, more or less, when a progressive governor was elected. One of his brilliant decisions was to stop forest fires. In Semi-arid climates, vegetation does not rot. There is not enough moisture. Up until 1920 the buildup of dead material was handled by fires started by lightning. These would burn a few acres and then stop. But when the "fight" against forest fires began, the only fires were big ones, covering 200,000 acres or more. Another brilliant decision was to discontinue the use of sunlight to heat water. Lots of homes in Los Angeles had their roof water heaters removed and replaced by gas heaters. Much less ecologically efficient, you see. This was assisted by California's curious habit of amending the Constitution by ballot initiative. Progressive all the way!

Left-wing prosecutors have implemented soft-on-crime approaches to criminal justice across America, in some instances making it a matter of policy in major cities not to prosecute specific crimes, a Daily Caller News Foundation review found. A common, though not universal, feature of prominent left-wing district attorneys is the backing of political organizations funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros. The New York Times has credited Soros with pioneering the “push to overhaul prosecutors’ offices” across the country. Cook County, Illinois, State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx, whose jurisdiction includes Chicago, took office in 2017 after winning her election with the help of a Soros-funded super PAC.

Bill Gates is the smartest guy in the room, nay, on the planet, and he wants everybody, from the White House to the medical community to John Q. Citizen in Anytown, U.S.A., to know it. How else to explain his feigned incredulity on CNN of America’s coronavirus test process to that of other nations? Let’s remember: Gates is a computer guy. He’s not actually a medical expert. This is what he said when asked by CNN host Fareed Zakaria to explain America’s handling of the pandemic, as Mediaite noted: “I wouldn’t have predicted that we would do so poorly.”
Debates Will Be Biden’s Undoing 15 replies

It should by now be clear to the meanest intelligence that key advisers to former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, are terrified of allowing him to stand next to President Trump on a debate stage. Consequently, they have deployed various Biden-friendly pundits to denounce presidential debates in general as meaningless exercises in empty showmanship. Elizabeth Drew, for example, advises the readers of the New York Times that these quadrennial contests more closely resemble wrestling matches than genuine debates about important issues. They reward “snappy comebacks and one-liners” rather than substantive discussions of serious issues. In the end she inadvertently refutes her own claim.

A new, exhaustive study by Gallup and the Knight Foundation found that Americans across the board are losing trust in the media. Some people might be shocked by this finding, but I suspect more people will be shocked to learn that the media had any trust left to lose. Either way, I think a separate poll conducted by Gallup might illuminate the problem. If you’ve paid any attention to the news, particularly cable news, over the last couple of months since George Floyd’s killing by police in Minneapolis, you might think “defunding” or “abolishing” the police is a widely held and even somewhat mainstream desire.

A convoy consisting of thousands of bikers headed for a South Dakota rally will not be allowed to cross Cheyenne River Sioux checkpoints on their way to the event, according to a Native American spokesman. The spokesman said Saturday that the band of travelers would be stopped on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, in the name of preventing coronavirus from spreading any further. The seven tribes that make up the Sioux Nation are now in a fight with federal and state officials, who deemed such checkpoints to be illegal.

The Babylon Bee reported last week that presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said he couldn’t wait to find out who he’d picked for a running mate. Neither can we because the element of truth underlying the Bee’s report is Ol’ Joe’s not-so-great cognitive abilities indicates that if the Dems take the White House, Biden’s vice president could quickly become president. The political pressure to create the first female president of the United States will be overwhelming, perhaps enough to dump Biden in his first year in office.

Hillary Clinton joined the chorus of Democrats blasting President Trump’s executive orders on Saturday – calling them “a stunt” and “unconstitutional.” Clinton, the 2016 Democrat presidential nominee, weighed in on Trump’s executive orders during an appearance on MSNBC’s “AM Joy.” “It's a stunt,” she said. "There's no doubt about it, it's most likely, as even Republican senators have said, unconstitutional, bypassing the Congress, trying to spend money that he has no authority to direct."

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has urged Sen. Kamala Harris to "politely decline" a spot on Joe Biden's ticket if the 2020 presumptive Democratic nominee chooses her as his running mate. In an op-ed headlined "Brown: Kamala Harris should say no to vice presidency" published by the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday, Brown, who has openly discussed his past extramarital relationship with Harris, urged her to reject the vice presidency and request instead to be considered for the role of attorney general in a Biden administration. "Harris is a tested and proven campaigner who will work her backside off to get Biden elected," Brown wrote.

Hillary Clinton leveled a jocular broadside against New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd on Saturday, pointing out that the writer appeared to forget wholesale that Clinton chose a man to run as her vice president during the 2016 election. Writing on the 1984 vice presidential candidacy of Geraldine Ferraro ahead of Joe Biden's announcement of a female running mate, Dowd in a Saturday column wrote that it had been "36 years since a man and a woman ran together on a Democratic Party ticket." That claim ignored the 2016 presidential election,
Why are black Americans likelier

Only part of the dramatic racial differences in age-adjusted COVID-19 death rates can be explained by racial differences. The remainder reflects a substantially lower black survival rate because, we are told, of poverty and inadequate access to healthcare. Once taking into account Latino outcomes, however, these factors alone are unlikely to explain the lower black survival rate. Why are the outcomes for Latinos so much better than for black Americans? There is no comprehensive national measure of cases by race and ethnicity. The CDC has estimates for only 57 percent of national cases. Using these partial estimates, together with population data,

Coming soon to a screen near you is an intriguing and creative new film documentary on Donald Trump, and yours truly and The American Spectator is here offering the first glimpse, courtesy of the talented filmmaker, Robert Orlando. The film is calledCitizen Trump, inspired, yes, by Citizen Kane. Here’s the parallel that Orlando plays out: In 1941, the story of a powerful, larger-than-life, media-driven business tycoon would emerge on the silver screen in a groundbreaking film. The film was a morality tale of the mogul’s bid for high office. The story was Citizen Kane, and the real-life portrait captured in the film was that of William Randolph Hearst.

Florida’s hanging chads from the 2000 Bush vs Gore contest will look like a walk in the park compared to what it will take to declare a winner this year. COVID-19 has completely upended how votes are cast and counted. It is inevitable that in competitive states such as Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania delays will happen in getting to the final tally. This is why it is so critical that election officials, starting with Secretaries of State, make it convenient to vote and put in place proper safeguards from the start.

I didn’t set out to compost Sean Hannity. It was something I settled on after considering several other options and rejecting them one by one. The first was leaving him in the basement indefinitely. I should explain: I don’t mean the man himself, but Hannity the book. A recent landmark poll of 20,000 citizens undertaken by the Knight Foundation and Gallup found that Americans’ hope for and trust in an objective media is all but lost. They see not only an ever-growing partisanship in news reporting but a determination by the mainstream media to push a political agenda instead of honestly disseminating the news. While generic faith in the media has been gradually declining over recent decades, the precipitous drop in trust and questions about what motivates the mainstream media can be traced to June 2015 and Donald Trump’s entry into the presidential sweepstakes.

As regular readers of my column know, I’m no fan of Donald Trump. And that’s putting it mildly. I don’t like his chronic dishonesty. I don’t like narcissism. I don’t like his nastiness and his silly name-calling. I detest his need to constantly cause chaos, as he did with a recent tweet suggesting we should postpone the 2020 presidential election. There’s nothing about this man’s character that I like. And I hope he wins re-election in a landslide. Actually what I mean is that I hope the Republican candidate beats the Democratic candidate. And I wish the Republican candidate were almost anybody else.

NYPD cops had a front-row seat to a five-on-one brawl—but let the violence play out rather than doing their jobs to break it up, The Post has learned. An 11-year-old girl was slapped, punched, kicked and even shocked with a stun gun by a group of five other girls after a basketball game around 7 p.m. Sunday on East 125th Street near Madison Avenue in Harlem. During the roughly 4-minute beatdown, cops sat idly in nearby cruisers—but they didn’t get out until the girl was bloody and bruised, a Post photographer observed.
