The Democratic-led House on Tuesday passed a sprawling $740 billion funding bill with a provision requiring the names of Confederate soldiers and leaders be stripped from military bases. The National Defense Authorization Act was passed with a bipartisan majority of 295 to 125. The bill also includes a 3 percent pay raise for US troops. It will now move to the Republican-controlled Senate for negotiations.Earlier on Tuesday, President Trump threatened to veto the bill if it requires the Defense Department to remove Confederate names from military bases.“Section 2829 is part of a sustained effort to erase from the history of the Nation those who do not

Veto it. The Confederates had far more honor than today's democrats. Who would they rename the bases after? Some flamboyant flamer with a cod piece and rainbow dreadlocks?

Don't they have better things to do, like counting the LINTs in their Navel? Or persuading Bite Me Biden to choose Hippo Butt, Stacey Abrams, for VP?

So was everyone a racist before this year, even during the Obama Renaissance, until now when people became Awoke! and suddenly realized all those military base names that they never never thought about or knew the history of until Awakeness are evil and must be replaced?
Just like we gave our professional and high school sports teams Indian names because we admired the Indians their bravery and skills, military bases were after admired Confederate forces leaders, many for their bravery, admired by the people in the area the bases were located in who led local citizens into battle.
So what should these military bases be called now, Base 1, Base 2, etc?

Oh, that won't create much of a problem, now will it? And why does it cost so much money to change a name? How much PORK resides in that barrel? Fools.

Forget about the protest pansies, the effect will be the United States of America, urinating on the graves of everyone who ever served under her flag. We as so doomed. I'm trying to recall at what point our national frog was placed into a pan of water. And then at what point the water started to boil. The frog never saw it coming!

Keep it up, dims. Your cancel culture trying to cleanse our history to its way of liking may bring a short feel-good moment, but, at the end of the day, these Stalinist tactics will fail. And at this rate, you will have lost any support, as if you had any, from all of the southern states. By the way, dims, any plans yet to re-name your New Yawk Yankees?

Like renaming military bases will help with jobs, wrecked economy, anarchy, China, education, healthcare and thousands of other issues. How shallow and craven are the Democrats that they can address real issues?

Since the democrat party was the party of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, KKK, etc, it must scrap it's name. It is now the ''Racist Party!''
Just hearing the word ''democrat'' is highly offensive to me and millions of Americans! We can no longer tolerate hearing it!

Maybe we should use a variation of the Dewey Decimal System. We can start with the alphabet and after going through all the letters, we can begin again with A1 through 100 to the end. And then AA, AA1, AA2, etc. See, there is always a solution. Before long, even the letters will be banned because some will come to represent names or people who offend us. In time even OUR OWN NAMES will offend someone. Then the government will have to assign numbers, well, more likely chips because we wouldn't even remember or need to remember what our 'designation' is. And then, and then and then, there'll come a time when we ourselves are banned or destroyed because our very existence offends someone. It's already coming to that, isn't it. Wearing blackface will be necessary just to sneak to the store to buy a loaf of bread. Think i'm joking? Look around...

They put in the sweet cookie of a pay raise to make Republicans and possibly the President to go along with it. I would Veto then Republicans could present a bill just for the pay raise to counter.
This is stupidity and bending to this is defeat.

The House has a perfect record going - being completely useless and destructive for four years. Pelosi and her gang of imbeciles can shove it. Fort Floyd has a lousy ring to it. Besides, it would take a long time for them to vote on which base receives that high honor. Fort Schiff? Fort Nadler? Hells no.

It's a political ploy to get President Trump to veto it..... the senate republicans will vote for it and President Trump will veto it.... hence the house's reason for the bill... they are pandering to the black vote... BUT... the blacks in the inner cities of chaos are starting to see the riots as corrupt political participants not... sincere concern for their well being...

This stuff is Politics 101 - make your opponent "do something" you can use to hammer them. The theme of 2020 is "Racism" and the KKK-stand-in is Republican candidates. Let's see how Mitch disposes of this.

Absolutely, NOT!
These installations, mostly USARMY, were so named to bring reconciliation between the a north and South.
Every one of those people was fighting about succession from the Union. The Union was certainly against that! The South, not.
That slavery was legal in the South, it became an issue and slaves were emancipated, thankfully.

Dead on arrival. The Democrats are at war with a nation that survived only 4 years, and died over 150 years ago. Will it save on black life? NO! What are they spending 740B on? The Confederate name change is just to provide cover.

This brought to you by General Petraeus. Famed for diddling and passing military secrets to his own biographer. Piled up on President Donald Trump the Great at the same time the top military brass came against using troops against Antifa: Esper, Mullen, and many retired Obama generals.

I think a very good case could be made to name some bases after more recent men who had distinguished military service. Fort Marshall, Fort Eisenhower, Fort MacArthur, Fort Truman, Fort George H.W. Bush, Fort McCain, Fort Audie Murphy, Fort Ridgeway. There are also dozens of men who were awarded the Medal of Honor for service. If you can name a highway in West Virginia after a Ku Klux Klan member it ought to be easy to agree upon some worthies.

Once again, the Demon-Rat "lead" (and I use the term very loosely) House, wastes time and millions of tax dollars, passing a bill that doesn't have a bat's chance in Hell of becoming law.
It won't pass the Senate, and President Trump has already promised to veto it if it does.
But, key, it's not their money, so they don't care if they keep wasting it!!!
