United Teachers Los Angeles recently released a research paper on steps needed to safely reopen public schools amid the coronavirus outbreak and pointed to the need to free up additional funding by defunding the police.
FLORIDA SEES LARGEST SINGLE-DAY INCREASE OF COVID CASES
“Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the paper said, citing the American Public Health Association. “We must shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health.”

Actually, save the country by defunding the public schools and unleashing the police.

Seriously? The police are running Planned Parenthood now? Who knew?
The powers that be should instead cut an astronomical amount of the education budget to keep it from these propagandists.

Not since Horace Mann ran his scam of state-sponsored public education in the 1800s, have these fiscal sponges raped and pillaged their patrons quite so efficiently. Los Angeles teachers union even has Judas Iscariot beat by a mile! He only received 30 pieces of silver.

Ah, the oppression of black children continues under the dem/communist party. You see, without an education your chances of succeeding are basically zero. Obtain a high school and/or college education or learn a trade and you have your ticket out of the hood. But no, the dem/communists running your liberal cities will not allow minority children to get an education. Nope, no charter schools, no voucher programs and no school choice. You see, in order for the dem/communists to keep you on their plantation they have to keep you dumb. That's right dumb, ignorant, illiterate. That's a fact. Think about that.

It doesn't sound like there are any educators among the teachers union. They are all political activists, who are more interested in their own interests. Fire them all and hire some real teachers. Unions have become antithetical to American values. All patriotic Americans should quit the union at the earliest possible time!

Absolutely, #9. And it would be interesting to know who in the black community came up with the idea that studying hard and graduating was “acting white”. My guess is that it was a progressive white politician who started that.

#1 Is right. As long as the teachers think the public schools are non-essential, so are they.

It does not seem plausible to me that the "rank and file" want the police defunded, unless things really are not as bad in schools as they claim and it is just exaggerated to be used in collective bargaining...

This is illegal and a blatant violation of their union contract. No parent should even contemplate sending their child to a schools whose teachers advocate for defunding police. Find a sane person willing and able to teach and pool your money with your neighbors to home school. Do whatever you have to do. But please do not cave to this unlawful attempt by teachers to usurp power they do not have to override the will of the voters.

As soon as the local weather 'guessers' predict possible bad weather, all public non-essential personal are sent home with pay. School teachers are at the head of the parade. Give them a year without a check, and see if they can do an actual working job.

They simply want to use this reason to shift money for pay raises and pension payments.
I can assure you NONE of the money, if shifted, would go to any other program.
LAUSD is too large, and un-representative of the vast district (largest in the nation) and should be broken up.
How many six-figure administrators do they have? If they work 25 years at 2% pension that is 50% pension, and I'll bet they have a 2.25 or 2.5% funding. How many are getting over $60,000 pensions?

This nation has been pouring billions down the education rathole controlled by the Left for decades. We are seeing the consequences of that money right now. Not only do I say no more money, but I would rather fund things like home schooling and charter schools which are actually educating kids rather than indoctrination. End unions and tenure in education and let the parents clean out their local districts. There are plenty of conservative teachers out there who would be glad for a chance to actually teach kids.

If they manage this, the schools will be bedlam. Shootings and all kinds of mayhem as who are the teachers going to call for help? Their yoga instructor?
