A draft Pentagon policy being circulated US Department of Defense leaders would ban the display of the Confederate flag in Pentagon workplaces or public areas by service members and civilian personnel. The policy, which has not yet been finalized or signed by Defense Secretary Mark Esper, comes as President Donald Trump earlier in the day criticized NASCAR´s decision to ban the flag at its races and venues. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the draft. If approved, the draft Pentagon policy, would bring the other military services in line with the Marine Corps, which banned Confederate displays on its bases in early June.

The military always did display utter cowardice when it came to social engineering. Its like the "leadership" was willing and able to slaughter hundreds of thousands of foreigners, but fell to their knees and quivered at the thought of criticism by a minority or a politician. Or a girl. And the higher the rank the more spineless they became.

No First Amendment for anyone in the military.

Let's see if I have this right. The embassy in Russia can fly the gay pride flag, but I can't fly the Confederate Flag, a historical flag? Somebody needs to grow a pair and sue.

Secretary of Defense Esper is apparently the latest version of James Comey, seeking to undermine the President whenever possible. Two weeks ago, in the midst of the rioting in DC, Esper was adamant about not using the military to protect monuments and buildings from the mobs. Today, just hours after Trump criticizes NASCAR for banning the Confederate flag, Esper announces a proposed ban on the rebel flag. Last week the President said that he would veto any defense bill calling for the change in names of Army bases named after Confederate generals. I have a suspicion that Esper will soon release a proposal to change the names of these bases, with his list leaked to The NY Times
I hope that I am wrong about Esper, but I find him at odds with the President far too often.

How about an EO stating that only the American flag can fly over government property.

I have known Gen Dave Berger for years and he has always been a bit of a screwball . And as far as Confederate flags on Marine Corps installations I can’t recall ever seeing one used in an official or semi official capacity. The closest I recall is a historic photo of a Marine Captain attempting to hoist one over Shuri Castle on Okinawa in 1945. Dave needs to concentrate his attention on things that matter.

Have no desire to fly or possess a Confederate flag. But it should be my decision. Not the government. If Quid Pro Joe wins I'm going to fly a Pirate Flag.

I saw lots of flags in barracks rooms and on license plates of private cars on base. Sometimes it was rebel flags, but usually Mexican flags. Sometimes flags of African nations and even one Cuban flag. Of course, the military is afraid of Mexicans and Africans. Not so much the rednecks.

You ban all flags or you ban no flags.
Either you allow only the US flag (since it's the US military), or you allow these brave men to have any flags they want in exchange for risking their lives.
But you don't ban a Confederate battle flag but allow a flag honoring sodomy!!!!!

Secretary Esper has insubordinated in hopes of being dismissed. Our Generals are made of Weak stuff: Milley, Mullens, Mattis, Petraeus, McCristal, Powell. Do not make the Vindmans Colonels. The military-industrial complex cannot give up on their 19 Year War they lost In Afghanistan. Bring the boys back and enjoy the new American-made toys gave you in Fort Bragg.

What's next? All flags of political/historic significance, like the "Don't Tread on Me" flag we use for the Tea Party Patriots?

If the military truly slaughtered hundreds of thousands of foreigners we'd have won and been home by now. That's what it takes to defeat jihadists but the military establishment prattles on about defending our freedoms and other slogans. They can't make the tough decisions to get the job done. Pathetic.

I found it interesting that in Europe at monuments, shrines to saints etc. where the resistance to the nazis is celebrated, you occasionally see confederate flags. Of course, European liberals use the same line as they do here— “it’s white supremacy!” They blame Trump too. But, it really just comes down to the human desire to show solidarity to a cause. The same desire which drives an antifa goon to put on a Che tshirt today, likely motivated a polish resistance fighter to own a confederate flag. It’s why we see oppressed people throughout the world wave American flags. Symbols of rebellion are revered for a myriad of reasons.
The confederate flag’s meaning has evolved. In the American South, it is a memorial to history. In Poland, it’s a reminder that rebellion takes courage. In Brazil, they celebrate it as cultural tribute to the Confederados who settled a region. If the American military wants to ban the flag for its ties to rebellion, then they need to make that argument. Of course, making it about race is easier, and doesn’t involve opening a can of worms that may ban the flags and symbols of states and people who were once their own nations. The Texas flag and many Native American symbols carry that same rebellious spirit.

Ban all flags other than the Stars and Stripes on military installations and federal government buildings, including embassies. As the the military, Esper and others need to remember that the highest percentage of our greatest volunteer military today consists of Southerners. Yes, there are twisted, moronic, low-rank enlisted men from throughout the USA, but the higher-ranked enlisted men boast a healthy percentage of patriotic Southerners. Today, the confederate flag is flown mostly as a symbol of the patriotic South, not as a symbol of racism or slavery. Mark my words: if a "Black Lives Matter" holiday is forced upon us, there will be BLM flags flying from government buildings.
