A suggestion for this post came a few days ago from one of our Treepers. I think it is a wonderful idea, especially for today, and during these times.I will just copy here a portion of her letter to me.My friend, Jack is the father of four sons… and at the end of an email about his sadness over the dismantling of the statues of Washington and Lincoln, he mentioned that he and his boys had just been listening to “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” and then he commented that “pretty soon, they’ll come for that, too.”They very well could. It made me think….what if they come for it all—

FTA: ~~"It made me think….what if they come for it all—all of our stories and poems and songs and books and movies, but each one of us could save something….what would it be? (Like Dolly Madison saved the portrait of Washington from the burning White House).
So, I wonder if Treepers would contribute to an “American cultural treasure chest” by suggesting the title of a poem, story, book, movie, song, or even of a photo or painting that was an important part of his or her own growing up....."~~
Fun read....and some great comments following the article!

I read this article last night and while the suggestions are interesting, the premise bothered me. It contemplates defeat and struck a dissonant note after President Trump's ringing speech.
This Fourth of July a better thought experiment would be who's statue should be in The Garden. Let us tell stories of our great legends, people who were uniquely American and could only be brought forth from this free soil. Let us remember the Washingtons, the Grants, the Buffalo Bills, Annie Oakleys and Sergeant Yorks that reside in our own family trees and tell those stories to our younger generations. Let us keep our past alive by living as true Americans standing upright and proud of the Stars and Stripes, ready to defend her with our spirit, our words and, if need be, our weapons.
MAGA:KAG - This is not our last Independence Day. It is the first of the American Restoration.

We are the most fortunate people on the planet. It tool a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get here. We mustn't blow it. The President's message delivered at Mount Rushmore last night puts it out there.
By the way, if you have never been to Mount Rushmore National Monument, go. And go again. You can feel America's founding and why we are the greatest God Almighty-loving nation on earth the minute you arrive while gazing at the four Presidents.

Thanks #2
I downloaded it
“I’m America” by Jose Feliciano
Wouldn’t it be great to have a
“People of color” patriotic music event?
Jamaican, Puerto-rican, Mexican, Black, Cuban, White, all joining in to sing patriotic songs just like José Feliciano’s new song “I’m
AMERICA”......

Poster #5 - Yes! That is a great idea that somehow should be passed on to the Trump camp. There are scores more people in this country who are not racist than people who are racist.
Maybe there could even be more than one concert. As you suggest, musicians of all races and heritage who love to sing about the country they love. Effectively, replace the negative with the positive. We are all very very sick of the negative.

p.s. I was just thinking that the country that they love has to be the same country that Jose Feliciano loves - America. . In fact, the title of the concerts could be "I Am America".( I think Jose's title is I'm America so it might be simpler. legally.)
