This has got to be one of the most dumbfounding [we're tempted to drop the "founding"] statements made by a member of the liberal media regarding the coronavirus. On his MSNBC show this morning, Ali Velshi suggested that by deeming houses of worship "essential," thus qualifying them to reopen, President Trump could be in violation of the "separation of church and state." Or as Velshi put it: "Regardless of how that plays with separation of church and state, and even if the president has no authority to issue such a decree, Trump's insistence on a rushed reopening

First off, Moron, there is no "separation of church and state" in the Constitution of the United States. And I triple dog dare you to locate it and read it to me if you insist that it is in there!!
Second, even of it DID somehow exist, the First Amendment ALS9 guarantees President Trump the right to free speech, even about religion, and his talking about it and declaring it essential is in NO WAY "establishment of religion or the free exercise thereof!!"
Really, your lack of common civics knowledge is rather stunning!!

Persecution of christians continues unabated from the democrats, whether politicians or media.
FTA: "If anyone has been prohibiting the 'free exercise' of religion, it's been the governors who have shut houses of worship. Trump's order, to the contrary, had the express intent of permitting those shuttered houses of worship to reopen! It is in the very best spirit of the First Amendment!"

Here we go again with the Jefferson letter to the Danbury Baptists--
The intent was to keep GOVERNMENT out of the Church and to respect individual liberty to worship.
Looks like the "government" is again sticking its nose into business it should not with this Corona virus set of "rules" that violate First Amendment Rights to worship and to assemble.
The "curve" was flattened weeks ago. The more we learn, we find out that there was tremendous infringement of rights.
Let's be careful out there, but stop going along with this media hysteria and attack on civilization as we know it--

Then the government had no authority to shut churches down. Also no authority to stop people from sitting in their cars and attending church services in a church parking lot. Also did not have the authority to close private schools. Goes both ways.
But I did read in NYC that biggie bird supported the moozies during Ramadan
Why no separation there.

Anyone who believes this is free to challenge it in court and go through the appeals process.
The government is required to use the least restrictive means possible to achieve a goal that affects the First Amendment and it's failed at that in places where it restricts religion; many more arguments where that came from.

Spare us your sophistry, Mr. Velshi. Americans have an inalienable right to worship, AND assemble peacefully. I know Canada has criminal consequences for pastors who preach against sodomy, but we're not there yet.

So the Ali Velshis of the world are telling us how our Constitution and government are supposed to work? Velshi is a Canadian, born in Kenya.

Mr. Velshi, the President is not promoting a particular religion. He is just saying that we have the right to practice our faith without interference from the government. (or you)

That statement was dumber than usual, even for MSNBC. Allowing somebody to do something at their own discretion has nothing to do with interference or control. The President is merely attempting to remind state governors where their power ends.

Interesting how this stuff seems to be coming from the minority talking heads on CNN and MSNBC recently. Isn't part of their citizenship knowing the constitution? Velshi needs to read it again. That amendment says that setting up a state religion is prohibited, the talking about religion is not. They don't get that Trump and Pence are Christians, and that will probably set their hair on fire if they think about it.

Newsbusters brings us the lowest-hanging fruit for the Sunday harvest. Line 'em up and shoot 'em down. This is a complete no-brainer. The "separation of church and state" was a Jeffersonian phrase expressing why the state lacked the authority to rule over decisions about internal church affairs. The President's statement, by complete contrast, is about telling the state that the First Amendment's "Free Exercise" clause places religious activities squarely in the "essential" category -- a ruling over CIVIC policy (not CHURCH policy at all).
The violation of the Free Exercise part of the First Amendment is clearly by the Governors and Mayors, forbidding religious activities that don't comply with their arbitrary restrictions.
Ducks in a barrel -- Newsbusters' specialty.

Trump is only identifying churches "as essential" as liquor stores and pot shops.

Just had this FB “discussion” with a colleague. His post was almost verbatim of this MSNBC broadcast. Now, I see that this must be the latest lefty talking point, circulating among the ignorantly faithful. He wouldn’t shut up about it, hammering away at his point, until I posted the entire First Amendment, and asked him if we spoke a different language. Then—and I know you’re not going to believe this—he resorted to Orange Man Bad because of...wait for it...RACISM. The left are nothing if not predictable, which, I believe is one of their greatest weaknesses.

In Santa Clara County, they are opening pot dispensaries, liquor stores and various retail businesses for curbside only transactions. I hear the movie drive-in is open still. However, they do not allow parking lot worshipping at the churches. Even though everyone is separated in their own cars. Why??? It makes NO sense unless it is for control and disdain for the religious.
