To fix the FBI, we need to understand what went wrong with it. It is now beyond debate, and should be a bipartisan concern of the first order, that something was very wrong with the FBI’s most senior leadership in 2016-17. It is clear that Donald Trump’s election was the catalyst for that leadership to take one of the most important organs of our government completely off the rails. The conduct of former FBI Director Comey personally, and the FBI senior leadership in his tenure, has emerged as a history of repeated conduct that now demands examination. It starts, but unfortunately does not end, with failed leadership

Don't believe all the crap about 99% of the FBI are good, honest hard working folks. I'll bet the barn that they are still loaded with Trump haters who are hard at it trying to keep him from being re-elected.
This outfit is famous for it's strong arm methods of getting false confessions.

I also wonder whether, as between the Clintoon and the Zippy administrations, the FIB has been hopelessly corrupted.

Shut down the whole mess for ten years. former employees may then reapply. no retirement , back pay. etc. Bottom line is your services are no longer needed or wanted! Absolutely No Inter-agency Transfers !

What needs to happen is everyone that was hired by the Obama administration in a position of Senior Executive Service (SES) needs to get their walking papers. This needs to be done throughout the entire DOJ. These people were brought in by Obama. Then the people from the Obama Administration that went into the management positions GM-15, need to be looked at closely and given their walking papers. The GM-15 is a little harder to can. It can be done. This is how you clean house and it needs to be done.

When something is as beyond repair as the FBI is, you Schiff-can it and move on.

When lawlessness is rewarded, you get lawlessness. Nothing will change at the FBI, CIA, and other government agencies until the lawlessness is severely punished. Based upon past experience I don't see the corruption in government being reduced. It will merely be white washed and less noticeable like plastered over termite damage in a house.

Here is an idea. Look in the Constitution for the authority to form a federal police force. When it isn't found, fire every employee, destroy every single database, computer and backup, and cancel every strong armed microphone and phone tap. Leave nothing but empty buildings, which will be sold within 1 year or levelled.
If such authority is found in the Constitution, destroy the FBI anyway. You don't fix a Yugo, you get rid of it.

I agree that the first step is complete exposure and then MAJOR accountability. The accountability may be considered too severe by some but that will be an lesson and reminder for future agency leaders and agents that these things are totally unacceptable and carry a major cost. There should be new laws and rules in place that should equate such behavior to an asteroid strike on individuals who participate, an extinction event. The actions of these people has roiled our Country for 8 years and advanced political misbehavior in other parts of government. They almost overturned an election. It is treasonous, doubly so for a "law enforcement" agency. The cost for this should be proportional.
They also need a "stupid rule". Unless you have such an egregious corruption of a political candidate with clear evidence and present that to the appropriate leaders of BOTH parties and receive their permission to proceed, you may NOT launch an federal investigation against a candidate or his campaign members. Even if given permission, you WILL provide regular and complete reports on such actions. Entrapment is NEVER OK! Period! NO counterintelligence operations will be launched unless there is a clear and present danger to the US and the above reporting is carried out. Violation of this rule will lead to termination with prejudice, loss of pension, barring from the federal workforce, etc.

I think the first step is to fire Christopher Wray! Then put someone like Ric Grennell or Dan Bonjino in charge. I would bet they could clean house in a hurry! There are many good men and women in the FBI, but it seems there a few Bad Apples who need to be thrown out. It has to be a Director of the FBI who is not part of the Deep State who does the clean up and Wray is not the guy who will do it!

We need to put together a Blue Ribbon Committee to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again.
Any more questions?

Somebody may "fix" the FBI but trust will never be restored. It is basic human nature to abuse power, especially in those who lack competence and self-esteem and giving them the cloak of secrecy only enables that abuse. Look at NSA, CIA, DOJ, IRS, all of the alphabet federal agencies and countless police departments across the country. Leadership and accountability is often missing but oversight only results in abuse by the overseers (See Obama, Barack Hussein). There is no good answer except trust in God and the Second Amendment.

Let's go back to first principles...pare back the FBI to running down interstate auto theft, bank robberies, and Mann Act violations.

Every branch of our government law enforcement headquarters needs to be moved as far from Washington DC as possible. It should be then illegal for members to communicate and be socially connected with any journalist.
This would include the CIA, and FBI. There is no reason they need to be in the swamp.
They would then be exposed to a cross section of Americans.

I do not know about you but I am tired of "The FBI is the greatest intelligence entity in the world", and "The problem is just on the top level and not any of the hundreds of hard working, willing to put their life on the line rank and file members".
I am sure they all took the same oath:
“I, xx, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
Now, how could any of these 35,000 FBI members not see what was going on? These people are the greatest in the world we are told over and over. Didn't the secretaries know or were they oath breakers also? How about the IT technicians? mail room clerks? overheard in the men's room? and so on?
It is hard to believe there were none willing to defend our Constitution and not anxious to come forward and blow the whistle.
That is what intelligence is all about -- being smart enough to ferret out traitors etc.
I say balderdash -- Start with phony Cris Wray and polygraph the whole crew. Flunk and you are out!
Just take the FIOA requests for FBI 302's (minutes of the meeting) that the FBI "lost" or the broken CD's (ever try to break a CD?) concerning almost any investigation.
